The next morning, Nor rejoins the party, looking even more wasted away than usual. He reveals that he has been troubled by dreams of Duke Furcas and the forge of corruption , and that he has a sudden compulsion to retrieve the forge at any cost. The heroes conclude that Nor is under the effect of a geas spell, but Elaryan discovers that he is not powerful enough to dispel it. Suddenly, the sorcerer remembers that he is a member of powerful magic guild and, drawing forth an invisible token, summons his Guildmaster, Moynath Autumnsong. It has been over a year since Autumnsong has heard from the party. He explains that those members of the Inverted Pyramid who survived the demonic invasion have gone into hiding, working to undermine the forces of the Abyss from the shadows. King Rail has largely relaxed the laws against arcane magic, but many are convinced that his agents are tracking its use, in order to round up the offenders once the current crisis has passed. After collecting Elaryan's outstanding dues-- and a nominal fee-- Autumnsong casts limited wish . The shoal elf's magic succeeds where Elaryan's failed, and Nor is made whole. The party then returns to the Grey Road in search of Scorizscar, the woundwyrm they fought the day before. This time, they are better prepared, casting resist energy , magic circle against evil , and various other enchantments before entering the dragon's lair. The lair's entry is a broken pathway that spirals down into a massive cave. As the heroes are making their way down it, the woundwyrm bursts forth from the cave wall, surprising them. Scorizscar snatches Root in his might jaws, yanking him from Xhotl's hindquarters and then begins to plummet down into the cave. Arthas fires a volley of arrows after the wyrm, and Elaryan attacks with magic missiles , but these only seem to enrage the beast. Nor manages to maneuver Xhotl below the dragon, using freedom of movement to free Root so that Flumph can carry the poor ghoran to safety. Seconds later, however, Scorizscar dives again, this time grabbing Nor and carrying him into the acid lake at the bottom of the cavern. The heroes follow the woundwyrm down to the surface of the lake. Battling the noxious fumes that rise from the surface (not to mention an acid elemental that forms as they draw near) they wait for the dragon to re-emerge. They don't have long to wait. Having abandoned Nor deep below, Scorizscar erupts from another cavern wall, attacking the party from behind. This time, however, the party is not surprised. They respond with arrows, spells, tooth and claw. In a matter of seconds, the dragon is defeated! On the lake's shore, they discover the dragon's hoard, collected from the various caravans that Scorizscar has preyed upon. Their victory celebration is somewhat muted, though, as they discover that Root has succumbed to his wounds, withered away, and died. Everyone who played gains 10,000 XP. Furthermore, the defeat of Scorizscar counts as a mythic trial.
