LFP, AD&D 2e, Thursday Evenings (European Time Zone) Long-Term and Newbie-Friendly!

Greetings, it's me, Lee, again and today I am once more looking for a player to join my Thursday game. We are a total of 4 people so far: 3 players (playing a Mage, a Fighter/Mage and a Cleric) and me, the DM. Two of us (including me) were completely new to 2nd Edition when we started 27 sessions ago, and it is also my first campaign that I started DMing. We have all improved over time, and are now looking for a 4th player to fill in the last spot! We use a slightly homebrew version of AD&D 2e with some optional rules, but it shouldn't be problematic While the campaign has a overall storyline and the players can interact with it and important NPCs, it is primarily focused on letting the players have all their freedom. They pretty much go on quests they want, and the story is just there to provide a backdrop, and for them to interact whenever they feel like it, or the story "moves" their way. Adventures so far include a escort mission, looting a ancient temple, stealing the spellbooks from a trapped wizard's tomb, capturing living chimeras, exploring a destroyed Gnome village and more. We are all very laid-back, patient and friendly, but also like to joke around every once in a while. The group takes roleplaying their characters serious though, and we don't like metagaming and min/maxing (though playing intelligently and efficiently is of course appreciated). If you want to give it a try or are looking for more information on either the game or the setting, just leave a reply here or message me via a PM! Regards Lee
I've never actually done 2e before, but if you let me i will be more then happy to give it a shot.
I'd be interested in playing, I haven't played 2e properly before, but I have some understanding of it already. If I could get more information on the game and the setting that'd be great, thanks.
Hey! I'll get back to you in the next few days, thank you very much for your interest! In the mean time, you can (temporarily) join the campaign via this link here so you can read up on detailed summaries of the sessions so far and some background info and story: https://app.roll20.net/join/388172/7esdZg

I think it sounds really fun and wish you a good game. Your campaign description sounds similar-related to my 2E world. DM Lee, I'm going to send you a link to the 2E Tavern in Roll20, a place to crosspost your game pitch to a large group of more than 100 players of AD&D 2E on this site. Happy adventuring!
Hey if you have another spot open I would love to join m a little new to this but this sounds perfect for me let me know if you do thanks.

Hey, thanks for all of your guys' responses! While I originally only wanted to have 2 new players max, I think I can work with 3 new players as well. Usually the game isn't to one person's liking anyway, or the time slot doesn't work out well etc., but that shouldn't bother us now anyway. I will send out PMs in the near future to all of you with my contact data and when we could possibly meet for more discussion, and potential character creation. Here some more information, as requested by Bart. Game Information - We played 27 sessions so far, most of them at least 2 hours long, some also 4 hours long or even a bit longer - The sessions usually start 5 or 10 minutes after 7pm German Time , which is 6pm in GMT , or 10am PST - I'd say the biggest focus of the game is RP between party members , and the second-biggest focus is advancing the characters (getting power, money, fame etc). The party usually isn't very good for the sake of being good, or evil. - Combat usually consists of "random" encounters (actually planned, but not intended to be a huge threat) and every now and then there is a bigger "showdown" that could be more lethal, or at the very least is of greater importance. Though the (bad) luck streaks of me and/or the party have often proven that even the most epic encounter can end prematurely, and even the most casual random encounter can end very deadly. I think my game is on the more deadly side of things, even though I avoid planning to kill someone. This could of course also be attributed to the fact that 2nd Edition is more lethal itself. So far 5 characters died, but the first one was retconned, and 1 time the death was actually reversible. Setting/Story Information - The world and the core deities have all been created by myself, as well as the history of the races etc. - You can read up on detailed summaries and some backstory on the Geography as well as the Pantheon of Gods in the campaign forum - The basic outline of the story is as follows: over a thousand years ago, a large-scale war caused massive destruction and a major shift in power. The two biggest factions were as follows: The Silannese Army and its Allies (almost exclusively humans, but later on joined by Elven and Dwarven Armies, both races who lived isolated from humans for a long time before that) and on the other side was The Rebellion , which is often referred to as the Dark Army (mostly Orcs, Ogres, Goblins etc., but also humans. Their leaders are, in large parts, human spellcasters). The original party somehow time-travelled back a thousand years , to the beginning of said war, and they were witness to some apparent changes in history. Originally (in their timeline) the Silannese Army won in the end and Orcs almost went extinct, but in this timeline (which, as they later found out, is altered by a Archmage of their original time, who now works for the Dark Army) the Dark Army had some early successes not recorded in history before. The party worked for a Silannese general in the beginning for a while, and after some "freelancing" they started working for a general of the Dark Army, but right now they are back to freelancing again. Of the original 5 time-travelling party members 2 characters died, and 2 players left the game, so only 1 remains. - The basic outline of the setting (races, kingdoms, deities) is as follows: Elves and Dwarves, in the time the party currently lives in, are living in isolated areas and have little to nothing to do with the human kingdoms that rule over large parts of the world. Magic users are relatively wide-spread, but lack major institutions like Towers of High Sorcery, Academies etc. These will start to pop up over the course of the next couple of hundred years. Divine spellcasters are still slightly more "respected", and wizards often kind of keep to themselves and their own kind. The party so far only adventured in the kingdom of Silann, which is the largest and one of the wealthiest, msot powerful kingdoms. Another important and large institution of the area is the Holy Order of Astarus, who follows the god of said name, and has highly trained knights, paladins and clerics at their disposal. Orcs are now invading as part of the Dark Army/Rebellion, but originate from their home country which is quite a bit away to the North. The Western part of the world (which Silann is part of), at this time of history, is definitely the most highly developped. You can look at very low quality maps of the world in the campaign itself. As for the pantheon of gods, the basic gist of it is, that followers of certain gods have much more power and respect than others, while other followers are persecuted all over the world. The followers of Kraeznor and Deluthel (both often regarded as "evil" gods) often side with the Dark Army, whereas the Holy Order of Astarus is fighting on the side of the Silannese Army. - The party so far has interacted with generals of both Armies, but have not sided with any of the two. They do have some very loose ties to a general of the Dark Army, who they worked for for a while. Most adventures so far have been the exploration and looting of abandoned places (a old temple to Deluthel, a wizard's tomb, a raided Gnome village, a military complex in the swamps) and they have been rather dangerous, but also very lucrative. Thanks for your attention! Regards Lee ---------------------- STARTING WITH THIS POST, OFFICIAL HIRING OF PLAYERS HAS STOPPED ------------------------
