Damage breakdown macro.

Trying to code macro to show each separate instance of damage and then total them together separately. Currently I've got the damage as split values but can't seem to find a way to get it to then total all the values while still keeping the breakdown immediately visible . Currently it shows up like: Slashing [7] + Frost [4] + Bane [5] I still want to keep that, but also get it to total it and add, "Total [16]" to a new line. So the final product is: Slashing [7] + Frost [4] + Bane [5] Total [16] Many thanks in advance! =]

You are going to need API to do this if it involves dice rolls. There's no other way to 'save' dice roll results and refer to them later. Otherwise, if you have static damage values, assign them to attributes and then you can refer to them separately & add them up for the final sum.

Jon, are the results static or the result of a die roll?

Sorry I really should have added that. It's the result of a dice roll. [1d8+4] + [1d6] + [2d6] If I'm reading GenKitty correctly there's not a macro solution to this and I'll just have to add them manually? That's not so bad, I'm sure my mental math is up to the task (famous last words).

There's sort of half a way to do that. You could do: /em Hits for fire, flood, and storm: [[1d4 + 1d6 + 1d10]] That would give you the total. Then you could mouse over the single inlined number to get the break down of each die roll (in that order). It's not "pretty", but you can half accomplish what you ask.

Yeah that's how we'd been doing it prior but having to mouse over 4-5 attacks every round for the appropriate breakdowns is, as you said: not pretty. Thanks for all the responses guys. Just glad to get a clear answer either way so I don't waste any more time searching for solutions :P
It's not as pretty as with the inline rolls, but you get the damage types as well as the total this way, without mousing over: /em Hits for fire, flood, and storm: /roll 1d4[Fire] + 1d6[Flood] + 1d10[Storm] By the way, if you use the above but with an inline roll, you can see the damage type in the moused-over roll: /em Hits for fire, flood, and storm: [[ 1d4[Fire] + 1d6[Flood] + 1d10[Storm] ]]

Gozer's last line is typically how I do all macros. As long as you have some dice roll involved (even if just 0d0) you can put descriptions in single brackets anywhere inside the Inline Roll. This ONLY works when you have a dice roll somewhere. If you just use math like [[ 2+5[Math] ]] you'll get an error, where [[ 0d0 + 2+5[Math] ]] will work. (Repeating Gozer for Clarity) [[ 1d8+4[Slashing] + 1d6[Frost] + 2d6+2[Bane] ]] ****************************************************************************** Now, that being said, I've ultimately found it more USEFUL to NOT include conditional damage in one roll. Bane, for example, is very circumstantial and wouldn't be automatically included all the time. The macro my fighter uses, with a Silver +1 Corrosive Flail of Undead Bane is: /me swings his flail around, the blunt silver protrusions glistening with drops of magical acid... [PRIMARY] Hit:[[1d20 + @{Rurik|STR}[STR] + @{Rurik|BAB}[BAB] +3[WeaponBonus] + ?{AttackMod|0} ]]+[[2]]Bane for [[1d8 + @{Rurik|STR}[STR] + 3[WeaponBonus] + ?{DamageMod|0} ]]Dmg .....Extra:[[2+2d6]]Bane......[[1d6]]Acid Crit (17-20x2) + Sickened 1m C.Hit:[[1d20 +4[CritFocus] + @{Rurik|STR}[STR] + @{Rurik|BAB}[BAB] +3[WeaponBonus] + ?{AttackMod|0} ]]+[[2]]Bane [[1d8 + @{Rurik|STR}[STR] + 3[WeaponBonus] + ?{DamageMod|0} ]] Dmg .....Extra:[[2]] Bane Enchant This prompts me for any attack or damage bonus' or penalties (from things like flanking, buff spells, prone, etc) And looks like this: Now that's probably a bit more than what you're looking for, exactly, but I wanted to give you an idea where you can go with it. As you get higher in levels, a lot of game system attack and damage rolls get more and more complex. Clearly labeling where each bonus and number comes from helps everyone (not just yourself) see where the numbers came from. ****************************** Minor note about bane in Pathfinder: It also increases your weapons enchantment bonus by +2, so don't forget to include that in your HIT and DMG rolls.
Thanks for the information guys it's much appreciated. This stuff all helps even if it doesn't solve this specific problem. I'll play around with all the ideas and see what gives the most desirable result :)
