The 20th rolled flagon is running rather amok tonight as it is as rowdy as ever. Something draws your attention towards the back end of the tavern, and as you make your way over, you walk past a sign that has two lone characters inscribed on the wooden plank, "2E". Strange. Nevertheless, you continue into the room and on one of the empty tables, you spot a pair of smooth obsidian dice inscribed with blood red runes. They
look so simple yet they seem to call to you. As you pick them up from
their resting spot, a single word resonates in your mind. "Ichnehmean".
The word sounds so... tempting (make a saving throw to resist, on fail the PC says the word). Upon muttering the word, the vision of yourself and your company begins to fade. You all re-appear into a room that at first glance, appears void of anything. You
are surrounded by pure black space with only a single table floating
nearby. An Ifrit is sitting at the other end of the table with a
charming smile on his face. "Welcome to my domain mortals. You may
call me Luciel," he says as he smiles. "You there, come forth! You
have accepted the accord of the dice and now you must play your part."
He gestures with his hand and you float towards the table. With his
other hand, he swipes it over the table and the two obsidian dice from earlier
materialize on top of the table. His tone grows serious as he says,
"Now roll mortal or else the tribute you agreed upon will be paid. Your
soul!"
Two six sided dice lie in front of you, drawing you in. It's your move.
Result s
2 The game is over and the dice disappear. The Ifrit says that you may claim one reward from 3-6
3 Permanently gain 1 point in a attribute of your choice
4 Permanently gain 1 point for 2 random attributes
5 A potion materializes in front of the roller and
the Ifrit informs the roller that drinking it will alter the course of
destiny in the favor of the drinker. If it is drunk by anyone else, it
will kill them and the Ifrit will claim their soul
6 The roller gains mastery in one skill of their
choice (alchemy, singing, diplomacy, etc) They receive a permanent +3
bonus to any roll made for that skill.
7 Nothing happens to you... but the Ifrit informs
you that you must call someone else in your company to the seat. They
must play a game or else your soul is forfeit to the Ifrit
8 The roller's soul is marked and cursed (cannot
be cured outside of divine intervention more powerful than the Ifrit).
Whenever they would make a roll that turns out to be a natural 20. The
roller must roll another d20. If the roll is an 8, they lose their turn
and the roller suffers immense pain that represents a part of their soul
being ripped from their body to be paid as a toll to the Ifrit(1d4 per
level of the roller)
9 You must offer the Ifrit tribute, in which case,
it is a sacrifice. The PC must kill a specified target and carve upon
his or her body a rune. If they do not complete the task, the Ifrit will
claim their soul instead (PC death)
10 Permanently lose 1 point from 2 random attributes
11 Permanently lose 1 point from your choice of your 2 highest attributes (lose 1 point in total, not 2)
12 The dice glow and you MUST play the game two more times with the following conditions:
1: The user must re-roll a 2 if the roller is forced to play another game
2: Rolling a 12 again means that they must play two additional games, again
3: If they roll an 8 more than once, the roll required to pay tribute
is increased by one number. For example, instead of just rolling an 8
triggering the payment, rolling a 7 or a 9 will also trigger the
payment.
Unless a roll of 2 is made, the Infernal Dice always remain in the
parties possession. Even if they deliberately set them down and walk
away, they will always show up when rummaging through your backpack or
if you are digging in your pocket. Even if you are stripped naked and
thrown in a jail cell, the dice will remain by your side, taunting you
to play the game. Thank you gentlemen for this wonderful invitation to this incredible tavern, and I hope to share more tasty artifacts and stories with you in the future
