Your best bet would be to look up games. You got to ask yourself "What version do I want to play?" There is 3.5 which isn't bad, though I recommend Pathfinder since it tends to clean up some of the issues with 3.5, otherwise its largely the same (you can use 3.5 content with pathfinder basically, GM desecration though with it.). 4e is also possible, not as popular and for many its a lack luster edition, I personal dislike it but theres people who do enjoy it. DnD Next (which I assume might be the video you saw) is still in development and its kind of a mix of 3.5 and 4e. Not a bad thing though it might be harder to form a group for it. Again, just try looking up games and try and talk your way into one. Typically you will have a lot better luck if you search yourself for a game and join it. From there you can always build up people you know for games and start to really develop hopefully into being with a group. Chances are playing with your GF might be a bit iffy if she isn't consistent. Your best bet, both for learning and getting her involved would be to search for a one shot with a GM/GM ideally accepting of newer players.
