Making a single tile into a map

Hi, so i want to make a ruined scifi cityscape, and i've found a single square tile that i want the whole map to be covered in. so i want the whole board to b covered in copies of this one tile. How do i do this apart from copy and pasting endlessly? is there any way i can, for example copy it 4 times, group it and then SAVE the thing i've grouped as a new image? thanks!
Well, sort of, that would work. When i am placing large armies of mooks, I will place three or four, copy that group, paste the new group a couple times (now there's 12), copy THAT, paste that a couple times (now there's 36) and so on. While this will help you more quickly cover the mapspace on Roll20, I get the idea that's not what you're looking for. Another option is to export the image to your hard drive, then use GIMP (or Photoshop) to do essentially the same thing. When you're done, you can save the result as a new file, then re-import it into your campaign. However, as this is skirting (dancing upon) the edge of legality, as far as copyrighted images go, I'm going to have to leave the exact method of how you might do so as an exercise for the reader. -Phnord the DMCAPhobic

Using API (a mentor level feature) TheAaron has written a script that does exactly what you are wanting (see this thread ). However, none API methods are exactly as Phnord suggested, my preference would be the exponential copy/paste method to get up to size quickly... Lets just assume there are no copyright issues?!

And that script is further complicated by the fact that the API can't create images from the marketplace, only from user libraries.

In reaction to a couple of remarks in the thread... It's hard (for me) to imagine copyright complaints with building a map for personal (campaign) use, out of copyright map tiles. That's the purpose for which tiles are sold and licensed. No copyright is infringed by incorporating a graphic sold/licensed as a map tile into a larger work for your own uses. Copyright would be an issue if you were re-distributing the tile as a tile (individual unmodified original art, whole cloth), or re-selling the tile as a tile . Compiling the tile into your own map, for your own campaign , is the intent and purpose of tiles, so it's hard to imagine a case where that would be copyright infringement. For the main question though, I would echo either earlier suggestion: copying groups exponentially by-hand (either within roll20 or in an external graphics program if the Tile is licensed for downloading).

I agree totally Gold, I just tend to take a view similar to those 'Mind Your Head' signs you see on low ceilings etc... everyone knows not to purposefully smash your head into concrete but for that odd occasion when it applies at least someone somewhere can say 'I told you so' and sleep easy that they 'tried' to prevent it ;)
