Looking For Player - Call of Cthulhu

Pardon the wall of text, but I just want to be as clear as possible. Hey, We're a group that plays a modified Call of Cthulhu campaign on Tuesdays at 6 PM EST. We have a solid group of 3 players and myself as DM, but we're looking for a fourth. The way we play is a little bit different from what you may be used to if you're a CoC vet. Our game isn't about making sure everyone dies every week. We have a small and simple "leveling" system which allows you to craft your character and invest in them a little bit so you're not throwing them into the maws of the beast and rolling up a clone for the next one-shot campaign. Ours is a game with a more free-form feel to it rather than the railroady-ness that many of the book modules seem to lend themselves to. Every character has reasons to exist within the world and an objective to pursue and it's your world to interact with. I'm not super rules-heavy, but I rarely disallow skill checks as long as it makes sense. In our game, walking into a room and doing spot hidden will reveal little or nothing even if you roll amazingly since you have no idea what you're looking for, but if you go into the same room and roll poorly while knowing there's a switch in there, you might find it anyway. At the end of the day, the outcome is more based on how you prepare and the knowledge you bring in rather than relying on the dice for a lucky outcome. Roleplaying first, dice later. You don't have to get super in-character, but embracing them more is welcomed and something everyone is getting more accustomed to. To be frank, we've had more difficulty than any group should ever have with new players (3 of us are from the original group with one who is a member's friend after a spot opened) and anyone who wants in will be interviewed pretty extensively. New players are welcome, as the system is very easy to pick up and we sort of make some stuff up as we go along anyway since the rules don't address a lot of situations. You're free to bring up any point of contention and I listen to everyone with open ears since it's everyone's game, not just mine as DM. We've had issues with flaky players (showing up for one session and disappearing, not showing up for the first session at all, disappearing mid-session, playstyle differences) and we really are just looking for someone who melds with the group. We're all really laid back and are more concerned with building a story and a world and interacting with the characters and creating a dialogue than killing people off. I put a lot of work into immersion stuff with creating newspapers, fliers, documents, giving the NPCs personalities and quirks, and finding appropriate background music, along with making sure the characters have a reason to be doing what they're doing, so I'd rather not have my (or the group's) time wasted with players who are only half-interested. If you're interested in a potentially different style of game than what you're used to (whether you be a Cthulhu vet or noob), feel free to hit me up. You don't have to be a vet of the Mythos, and the less you know about the lore might actually make things more exciting for you when the shit does hit the fan, because it tends to hit it pretty hard, but I always give you a fair chance to adequately prepare as long as you do your research and are careful about who you talk to and what you take as a truth. Good on you if you got this far and thanks for reading. Peace
I am cautiously interested in this but I'd be coming in completely new and it all really depends on the time and day your playing on.
I'll send you a PM with some contact info. Don't worry about being new, the system is super easy to understand and there's very little to memorize. You'll have your own character sheet with all your reference rolls and any additional information you need I try to always make available to you on some google docs spreadsheets or images with any rule clarifications or changes I/we have made. You can literally come into this game knowing zero and still get by just as well as those who have years of experience. It's more about approaching the problems in a smart way so you can prepare yourself what you think lies ahead. Either way, I'll send you a pm with my skype info.
Interested but unfortunately I'm pulling together a Pathfinder group the same day. But would love to hear about the stories you weave.
Shame you won't be able to make a play. I'm new to DMing and tabletop in general, but I took up the reigns (our first DM was pretty garbage, to be blunt) and feel like I've settled into the role nicely. I know I have some spots for improvement, but we're having a pretty good time overall. Had a couple of speedbumps early on, and those are things I now know to avoid or how to approach them differently at the minimum. The players just rescued a Professor from a supposedly cursed (wait, this is the Mythos we're talking about, odds are about 95% it was cursed) island full of snake-men (okay, yeah, it was cursed) and various incarnations of hybrid, atavistic monstrosities, and are back in Arkham doing research around the campus and trying out various leads (I'm letting them make their own connections and will tie them into the main story when they progress) found in the Miskatonic Crier and Arkham Gazette (I like making newspapers and stuff so they have something to actually see and reference). They're really pressing hard on the sudden disappearance of Ronnie Church, the Varsity Captain of the M.U. rowing team and have made a friend in a Polynesian tattoo artist who hangs around the docks and speakeasy. The Professor is kind of cursed though, as every PC who was linked to him plot-wise has been booted from the group for one reason or another. I think we're all settled in now though and we're just looking for that last member who wants to play the same kind of game we do and has the same interest level as us. Sessions keep improving and I keep learning from them and how to provide a better experience, doing a bunch of back end stuff to improve the sessions overall. It's fun times.
I would be coming in new. It seems intriguing and I'd like to give it a try. Please PM me the information I will need.
I gotta close this off from new applications since I think I have my player. Anyone else who's interested is still free to send me a PM or whatever and I can talk to you and possibly keep you on my contacts in the case we expand or a spot opens, but for the time being I believe our game is full. Thank you for all the interest and applications. It's a shame I can't have everyone and don't have the time to do a second campaign at the moment. I'm really not a fan of having to turn people away from just wanting to play a game, but such is the nature on this site where DMs outnumber players by such a margin.
