Greetings all, Its been a long time since I have seen anyone run a Rolemaster game in Shadow World setting. it was by far the best gaming experience ever when I played and I would like to find others that would be interested in starting up a RM campaign again. I would like to play weekends 7pm - till whenever and I am in the PST time zone. Thank you, Spencer
Hi Spencer, I am building a Shadow World campaign, but I will not be using Rolemaster. The game mechanics of RM are simply to complicated. The books and rules are great to read, but not very practical for a fluid game. The Shadow World however is the best campaign set I have ever owned. I am using a super generic home brewed rules systems with the flexibility to be able to handle a world like Kulthea. However as a GM, I will always take the liberty of pulling resource material and ideas from anywhere I can, including RM. Evenings on the weekends are really the only time I have for anything, as I work full time during the week. Otherwise, I will work with the players to schedule whenever we can. At the moment, I only have one player. He is a long time friend, but not familiar with Shadow World. So far he has been my guinea pig as we learn how to use Roll20. If our interest continues and grows, will would anticipate paying the monthly fees for expanded access. Having another player could really help with keep up our interest. I don't expect a game like this to draw a lot of players, but I could run some pretty decent adventures with 3 or 4. If you actually get this and might be interested, please contact me. Best Regards, Ashurbanipal (John IRL)
Hey John, It was great to see your reply here. Sorry I did'nt get back to you sooner but I ran into some technical difficulties on my end. I played in a home grown world based on shadow world / Kulthea ( specifically the continent of Govan ) for 6+ years and I would love to have another go at it. me and my friends played with rolemaster so much that we even re-wrote spell law. we went through every spell list and even created many of our own which Id be happy to share with you if you liked the spell system used in RM. I can understand your hesitation to run a game with the RM core rules ( very cumbersome ) but can you describe the system you would use? is it still a skill based / percentile ( d100 / 2 d10's ) like used in rolemaster? or is it closer to say D&D / d20 system. I think the one thing that drew me to the rolemaster system was first and foremost the world and secondly the vast set of skills you could aquire and the open ended percentile dice rolling system. I have played many other games such as Shadowrun, Champions, D&D and Id be happy to talk with you more to see if I am a good fit for your game. I also work full time M-F so weekends are good for me as well. I also live out on the west coast here in the US so I am in the PST time zone. Look forward to hearing back. -Spencer
Hi Spencer, It is glad hearing from you. You had the only post in all of the community forum that even mentioned Shadow World when I searched. I have enjoyed both Role Master and Heroes System a lot, and was really impressed with the high level Shadow World source material. But it takes some really dedicated people to manage their characters. Neither game has a real strong following these days. Roll20 has a lot of power if you have access to the API and a lot of time to write code, but I don't have either at the moment. I initially wanted to use Hero System for the campaign, but the character sheet that is in Roll20 for Heroes by default, would even display properly to be usable. Using only a free account to get started and familiar with things, the tools for characters are very crude and limited...you can't even create a character sheet without the API. Anyway, I had played a bit on another site that had its own core rules system and found it quite interesting. So, I expanded upon it to create a system which I think is very simple to get started with, suitable for novice players, but flexible enough to expand to have a scope the size of Role Master. Here is the link to the Campaign. I have drafted the core rules and a section for Shadow World information. Feel free to take a look and send me feedback. https://app.roll20.net/campaigns/details/754245/sh... I am currently working to get 2 new players up to speed, but in a week or so, I could probably start bringing you in if you decide you are interested. Hope to continue our discussion. Best Regards, John AKA Ashurbanipal or Ashur for short
