Is it possible to turn off the Markdown formatting in a room's settings?

The Shadowrun table I run is used to using different quotation signifiers for different means of communication, and in that paradigm asterisks were used for unvoiced electronic communications. Obviously, we can't do that anymore. We can come up with something new, but we'd rather not. Is it possible to turn the formatting off? We've never felt a need for it.
Nope. I'd just find something new. Otherwise you'll just be told to make a suggestions post and hope that by some lucky chance, enough people upvote it to where it might get noticed and in two or three years, might get implemented.

Maybe you could create a macro for talking on electronic devices. You could play around with the formatting to make it look different from other chat. Just an idea. /em @{selected|character_name} is talking on a cell phone. *?{What would you like to say|silence}*

Starting the line with a backtick (`) is supposed to prevent the formatting, but it didn't seem to be working last Friday.

Humorous suggestion: You could say that all Bold text is unvoiced electronic communications? =D Serious suggestion: You could use bullet characters instead: •The email says "foo"• You can insert them from the keyboard with Alt-7 (Windows) or ⌥ Opt+8 (Mac). I know that boils down to using a new encoding, but it looks a bit like an asterisk...

As proof, I've personally had a couple of my suggestions implemented from the Suggestions board, and the response time was a matter of months. Why try to discourage people's suggestions like this, HB? It's counterproductive to the site development.
