Welcome Players! Post in this thread with any kind of current journal, diary, story, encounter notes, illustrations. Even Google Images are fine if you want to illustrate a scene. This is in regards to the ongoing game play. This is after your origin story, anything that's happened since the party started getting together. This can be written from the perspective of your PC, as a story, or otherwise. Any style of on-topic post is welcome. Short or long-form replies are equally acceptable for the journal threads. NOTE: Save your Backstory or Origin story for a different thread (events that happened from birth, up to the time you reached Portlandio area & started meeting the other PC's). That's for another thread, that's not open for postings yet. I'll start.... March 17 session notes, screenshots. Batch of Screenshots from March 17, 2015, St. Patrick's Day opening session, side quest to the end of the Leprechauns' rainbow. I'll just put the pictures for now, and leave it for the Players to write your Journal to provide the captions / descriptions for the pictures as you remember it. The 3 PC's present for this session are a Kenku Transmuter, Rakasta Ninja-lady, and a Bullywug Conjurer mage. They didn't get the pot of gold (because that's very difficult) but they found 6x four-leaf clovers of luck, and one special shamrock that the leader leprechaun paid a bounty to retrieve. Also the party managed to catch-up with the parade they were tracking, stopped the Accordion Of St. Patrick's Day from driving the parade into a compulsion to dance without stopping, and returned the exhausted Dryad gal to her soul tree. More things happened. I'll leave it to the Players to write what you want. Happy St. Pat's to all who celebrate! What kind of notes or journal would you share from this week? Post it here. Thanks.
Kryikh met up with two new friends—a Bullywug and a Rakasta he’d met in Portlandio—outside the city. It turned into a very strange day. Possibly he should not have smoked the little people’s pipeweed, although he’s fascinated by the idea that inhaling smoke could transform one’s mental processes. Something to investigate further, perhaps. At the moment, he’s not sure what really happened that day … what was real, and what was dreamed or imagined. Fortunately the emeralds in the pocket of his robe seem real enough. Also real was the way the three new friends transformed from bare acquaintances to allies. Airen and Jade are smart and skillful. Each obviously also have their secrets, like Kryikh himself. For his own part, Kryikh is proud to have managed to successfully deploy his magic (including the casting of a charm on one of the little men, who became the party’s friend, and even fought alongside them later in the day.) He feels that he is putting his magic to good use now—unlike what he was asked to do back home.

It's good to see a post about your adventures! You've earned this for your character, Gray please add to your character sheet in-game: +200 XP (Kryikh Journal of March 17 session) Also, using your Detect Magic By Touch ability, you start to notice a faint magical sensation from the Emerald(s) obtained from the leprechaun leader. Ask me in the game today and I'll tell you what the leprechaun's emeralds can do.
I love the visual recap! While I was searching through the woods for some herbs that might be useful I was delightfully interrupted by that crazy cat lady, jade, and the odd birdman, Krykh, that I had met in Portlandia several weeks ago. Shortly after they showed up we were again joined by a band of leprechauns, strange magical little creatures, who were out and about celebrating a holiday called "st patricks day". They told us about a parade their friends were having, and after the cat dashed off I figured I would join the chase. We were interrupted several times by some rowdy leprechauns who were I guess meant to slow us down, some kind of bet as to how long it would take us to catch up, but eventually made it. Once we joined the parade we were instantly compelled to dance! It was fun at first, but after a while I couldn't stop, something was "forcing" us to dance. I guess when I stumbled in to the water it disrupted the spells hold on me, and I was able to stop the music which broke the spells focus. By this point we were at the end of a rainbow. I had never seen the end of a rainbow, but it was quite magnificent. We were rewarded with some emeralds and a bracelet in exchange for some 4 leaf clovers + shamrocks we had found along the way from the leprechaun leader. Now thinking back we should have investigated further as to why the leprechauns were forcefully leading travelers along, but I was too distracted with these marvelous emeralds and escorting the dryad back to her home. By the time I had returned the rainbow and the leprechauns were no where to be seen. After experimenting that night I was able to learn some new magic. Unseen servant. I believe he shall be quite useful to our adventures.
Oh the city! People are crazy! My poor feline senses were just overwhelmed with all the sounds and scents. Then there are the looks from people. Okay, I look like a cat which they see as a pet. Doesn't mean they should try to make me one! But I needed a break so off to some nearby woods I went. There I saw Airen, another stranger person since he is a bullywug. He was gathering herbs and seem to be fully involved with what he was doing. It wasn't long before Kryikh showed up. Looking like a large walking bird, I still can't help wonder how tasty he might be. But considering he is just as much of an outlander as myself, I can't help but feel some type of kinship towards him, as well as Airen. I had met them previously and was rather glad to see them there in the woods. I'm normally a loner, but too much alone time can grow old. Not to mention it felt good not to be looked at oddly by someone. I had a feeling they felt the same way. We weren't there very long when we were met by an actual Leprechaun. My ears quickly picked up some music coming from further away. They were busy celebrating a holiday and collecting four-leaf clovers as well as the rare Shamrock. It didn't take long before we were caught up into the celebration and invited to catch up to the parade. I admit, a side bet saying we couldn't catch up made me determined to prove them wrong and was the first one to take off after the fading music. I guess they didn't want to lose the bet either because the Leprechauns attempted to stop us along the way and steal the clovers we found along the way. Their mistake. Lucky for them, we charmed one and made a deal with another. The unfortunate ones were either rendered unconscious or killed. I think the Dark Leprechaun that scared me the most! Once we caught up to the parade, we quickly realized it was charmed music and were caught up into the dancing. Thankfully, Kryikh was stronger willed than me and was able to eventually beat it with Airen's assistance in stopping the music. The rainbow at the end of the parade was really pretty! But for some reason I had a bad feeling that to get too close was dangerous. Overall, we had some fun, earned some gold and treasure and made some new friends. The charmed Leprechaun, Fergal, was quickly becoming a good friend of Kryihk (who charmed him in the first place), and the dryads we rescued and escorted back to their trees offered their friendship in the forest. Always good to have friends. You never know when you might need them!!

Fun reading these details that came through. I want to reply quickly to make a division between last week (March 17 St. Patrick's quest), and this week (March 24, investigating the abandoned mansion across the bay). For the latest journals, please add this to appropriate character bio tab: +200 XP (Airen Journal of March 17 session) +200 XP (Jade Journal of March 17 session) And again, thanks for the posts, Players. The little details are delightful to read as DM remembering the session; expressing your characters, and reminding me of various bits to keep weaving into the campaign saga. Now the table is set for your next Journal posts! We can continue appending journals in the current thread for now, for March session dates. I'll start a fresh new thread next month for April. Please Post some kind of journal regarding March 24 next (first adventure to the abandoned mansion). The window to post is from now, until the next session starts (next Tuesday) so take 10 minutes one day this week or weekend before Tuesday. Describe your response to the session, or mention your favorite encounter. Questions are welcome too, Any Questions? Roleplay, interacting between PC's, NPC, and DM is welcome too. Anything we can accomplish outside of game-session times, have fun & move the campaign forward, developing your characters and exploring the homebrew world. This can be like a little Play By Post, with low frequency but participation matters. As Wimpy always said, "I will gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today!"
One night while in town Kryikh mentioned that he had flown over a mysterious house, and was interested in checking it out. Curious, we began investigating in town where we heard many stories of how this place was haunted and should be avoided. Additionally, we were also told that the family who used to live there used to transmute gold! While I normally am not too interested in transmutation magic - being able to create gold must be powerful magic which intrigues me. Normally I would not believe such stories, but we were told by Mave, a potion shop owner, who I do continued business with selling my herbs. Mave also told us of an elf ranger, Mitel, who we recruited to help us investigate the "abandoned" house. Mitel in turn also helped us recruit Jaxon, a cleric, who was also interested in investigating the area due to the strange isolated weather. Additionally a man of his order had ventured there several weeks ago and had not yet returned. Together we ventured to the manor by boat. As we got closer and closer to the manor the weather became worse and worse and we had to shore early. Luckily Jade was able to find a scale-able path in the cliffs. As we were approaching the house Kryikh was scouting ahead and was struck by lightning! I would have thought he was wise enough to avoid flying in a storm. I know birds have small brains, but I thought that kenku were different. We immediately retreated back to town as Jaxon was not able to cure such significant wounds. Apparently he was trying to defend a winged cat from a bunch of giant mosquitos. I didn't see it, but Jade did so I know it wasn't just Kryikh's brain being fried from the lightning strike. Eventually Kryikh healed, but some nerves were beyond repair causing him to lose his ability to fly. He has been extremely depressed. I can only imagine how horrible it must feel, but I hope that with time he is able to fully recover. Several weeks after our first excursion we returned to the manor. Just as the stories had said it seemed haunted/abandoned. While investigating the outside of the house we encountered giant ants and some goblins. We were able to take them out, but I realized that I really need to practice with my spear! I missed almost every attempt to hit! We also encountered Ned, the "grounds keeper," who kept trying to persuade us to leave. Clearly he was lying. No one had done any maintenance to his place for a significant number of years. It was in shambles. I have a feeling that "Ned" might actually be the winged cat in disguise. I don't trust him and will be keeping a close eye on him. With Ned we broke in to the house, which of course he doesn't have a key for (another reason to question his claim of groundskeeper), and begin investigating the house. I have an eerie feeling about this place, but we will press forward.
Kryikh is depressed, despondent, devastated. He has lost his ability to fly. Returning to town after their first adventure, he told Airen and Jade about the strange mansion he had seen when flying up the coast to Portlandio.Asking around town, the three of them discovered it was owned by an absentee landlord, a noble who is on the town council. More interestingly, previous generations of the family were apparently alchemists, and the house may hold secrets of alteration magic. If Kryikh was already intrigued by the place, at this point he became almost obsessed. Recruiting some allies in the form of Mitel the elven archer, and Jaxon the warrior-priest of [Zeus?], and also accompanied by their wee friend Fergal, the party set off to investigate. Arriving by boat, bad weather forced the party to land and climb the cliffs by the mansion. While Jade picked out a path for the others to follow, Kryikh flew up ahead to watch for ambushes. Sighting the mansion, he noticed the strange winged cat that he’d seen last time he flew over the place—and it was being attacked by some repulsive giant mosquito creatures. Feeling some kind of mental connection with the cat, he went to try to help it. Perhaps this was foolish given the weather. But he had no sense that there was about to be lightning … normally he would have felt something, would have known that a thunderstorm was about to start. [Gold – it's just that it occurred to me that K has Weather Sense – would he be able to tell from this whether the lightning strike was natural or supernatural?] Whatever happened, whatever the cause, a bolt of lightning came out of nowhere and hit him. He crashed heavily to the ground, knocked out and feathers burning. And everything changed. His friends brought him round and took him back to Portlandio, where Jaxon and the other priests of Zeus nursed him back to full strength. Except that some kind of damage to his wings means that he can’t fly. While recuperating, Kryikh grilled Jaxon and his fellow priests on anything they knew about supernatural lightning, any theories they may have about what is happening with the strange weather patterns around the mansion. Now he must somehow learn to fly again. Perhaps his transmutation magic can help. And then there is that scroll that he stole back east, which seems to show another way to fly – not naturally, but not like any magic he has heard of either. The incident has transformed him in another sense – he had been slowly establishing the ability to communicate telepathically with his friends, as he would with other Kenku. In the immediate aftermath of being struck from the sky, he was instantly broadcasting his pain and distress to them. And this seems to have established their ability to receive his communications. He continues to work on how to transmit to others that he meets. Some seem able to receive his thoughts quite easily, but many do not. A couple of weeks later the party returned to the mansion. After a couple of fights with giant ants, goblins and a snake (which Jade cleverly dealt with) they managed to break in to the house and start exploring. But not before meeting someone claiming to be Ned the gardener, who is escorting them into the house. Kryikh wonders if Ned isn’t just as interested in the contents of the place as they are … Could it be he is using them to gain access and explore the mansion? In his spare time Kryikh is doing everything he can to research both magic which might enable him to fly, discussing the lightning strike with Jaxon and the other priests, and studying the mysterious scroll he stole.

Here is my picture of the party who first explored the grounds of the abandoned mansion 2015-03-24. Caption the Picture, Left To Right: Mitel the Elf Archer NPC. Short even for an elf, he wears a hand-carved wooden bracelet, hand-made bow, handcrafted arrows, ceremonial clothes of the elf moonbow goddess Sehanine. Ned The Gardner Human NPC, he carries a scythe (for thrashing overgrown grass at the mansion) and a spade. Jade was suspicious of Ned from the start, Airen wondered if Ned might be a shapechanged form of the winged roof-cat, and Kryikh suspects Ned of using the party to gain entry to the mansion. Kryikh the Kenku Transmuter Mage PC, with feather colors of Western Scrub Jay, he communicates best by telepathy. Jaxon Cleric Of Zeus Human NPC, he has an electrical energy about him, reveres Greek Gods and studies lightning, and helped to revive and carry Kryikh back to the Greek church after Kryikh was struck by lightning flying above the mansion grounds. Fergel the Leprechaun Ninja NPC, just about 2 feet tall, he carries a shillelagh, and wears a mask hiding his beardless little face. He has a lucky clover tucked into the band of his bowler hat. This wee fellow was initially charmed by Kryikh in the St. Patrick's Day quest. Jade the Rakasta Catfolk Ninja Woman PC, she looks like a bipedal black cat. A pair of ninja-to swords are accessible at her back. On her hands she straps vicious claw weapons for slashing. Around her waist, the last ninja-training belt awarded by her missing teacher and Master. Airen the Bullywug Conjurer Mage PC, stands near 7-feet tall, an upright frog-man, he is more intelligent and reasonable than most members of the bullywug species, and has discovered he has magical powers of summoning and conjuration. He carries a spear, and has a knife strapped to his leg, but otherwise nearly unclothed. He sometimes has a leaf-shade device strapped to his back, but I didn't put it in the picture... presumably his shade-leaf was battered in the recent winds around the mansion and boating there. Next, DM responds to the latest Player journals, Note: You can change the words in the parentheses if you want more or different summary. The point is to put a description of what that XP was from. Chris put something like this on your character BIO Tab in the Experience Points section, +250 XP (Airen Journal of March 24 session going to abandoned manor house) NOW AT _______ (Tally your total XP to date) <<<< Also, remember Airen learned a new spell, Find Familiar, and we are going to talk about the scope-range of Familiar northern-swamp animals who might come to your call if you cast this one-time spell. I want to get your ideas and hopes in a list, but have some flexibility for a DM-decision or a randomized roll in the spirit of the spell description, but modified for this particular homebrew. Having a Familiar is a really neat, special bond, it's pretty weird too, and can give you some new abilities and roleplaying bits too. It's more than a pet, and it's different from your Mount (giant lizard). It's more of a magical, mental connection with the animal, almost a psychic connection, like best-friends-forever-pet. Gray put something like this on your character BIO Tab in the Experience Points section, +250 XP (Kryikh Journal of March 24 session going to abandoned manor house, got struck by lightning, lost flying ability) NOW AT _______ (Tally your total XP to date) <<<< While recuperating, Kryikh grilled Jaxon and his fellow priests on anything they knew about supernatural lightning, any theories they may have about what is happening with the strange weather patterns around the mansion. Responses varied. Jaxon insists it was clearly NOT Zeusian. "Zeus would not have a near-miss if he was trying to strike you down. He would electrify your heart not break your wing." Jaxon says "it seemed like a real lightning storm that formed suddenly in a concentrated area, and something about it seemed odd." He wants to return to the site to observe and study it more. Some other monks, priests, and lay-persons in the Greek church, are still fascinated, saying "it is a SIGN from Zeus but not an attack." Many feel it is a warning sign to stay away from that particular property, solidifying their self-satisfaction in the chosen location of the town of Portlandio and their prominent church building. Others feel it is a cleansing sign, Zeus wiping away the sins of that particular area of coastline, bringing holiness to the area. Some question whether Jaxon was qualified to assess the situation (basically saying "Oh he's just a first level cleric, he can't read the signs from Zeus like we cloistered monks can"). Some of the lower priest assistants started calling Kryikh "He who flies through lightning", they say "Petaxi mesa apo Keravno!" in a complimentary-affectionate-honorary Greek nickname πετάξει μέσα από κεραυνό It effectively means "He Who Flies Through Lightning". Pronunciation: petáxei mésa apó kerav̱nó PETAXI MESA APO KERAVNO Note: This might be terrible Greek, it's fantasy Greek, and I used Google Translate. No one around the church seems to believe there is simply bad weather on that stretch of coast. Only atheists and non-believers outside on the streets will say such dismissive statements as "Oh that's just the weather. What can you do? Bad weather on the coast. The ocean brings it in. Don't go outside in a storm unless you want to risk getting hit by lightning. Sounds like a normal event to me." Kryikh's Weather-Sense told you that it was natural electricity (not a magical bolt) , and it was a true lightning strike generated by the weather. But, the big but, you're fairly sure there is no natural way that such a thunderhead would have formed in that exact spot, at that exact minute, with such concentrated and directed energy, as quickly as it did. So it was a true storm, but appeared unnaturally suddenly and focused on a particular geographical ground-area. Weird, right? Kinda freaky. Like you got sent your own personal stormcloud. Additionally Kryikh remembers that there were some powerful Kenku back in your home region (near the gang-hit town of Alta, near the end of the Dragon Run where the river meets the coast), who were able to stimulate the clouds into forming a lightning strike. It took great effort, and years of training, but you have personally been in the same roost as a powerful kenku who was said to have the ability to call lightning strikes by seeding the clouds in a certain way. You never actually saw them do it, but it is known by reputation within the kenku culture where you came from. Next game time: 12 hours from now! Battalia , window is still open to post up Jade's thoughts about last week if you have time to type something up.

How did I end up here? Not too long ago I was amongst my own people, a part of them. I might not have felt like I fitted in, but at least I contributed, even if only by killing the evil that is always out to get us. Everything changed on that dreadful night. Just when I felt safe for the first time in weeks. As if they knew... I should've never let my guard down! Now everything is a blur. Although I remember almost nothing, I know I'm not the Elf I used to be. My decision-making is erratic, my memory is filled with holes, and this enormous sense of guilt is pressing down on me. I think that's why I left: I failed my people, and I've paid the price. Now, I am of no use to them, or anyone really. Yet somehow I find myself yet again on a mission, although I'm not even sure what that mission is. Even an Elf can starve. I know, cause I came close. Instinctively, I stuck with the river, so at least I did not suffer any thirst. But no matter how often I checked, my pouch was empty every time. I simply had no choice but to take the job that reptile offered me. I must've really angered the gods, because the hireling that was to accompany me turned out to be a Dwarf. Had I been more vigilant, I might've realized straight away that something was off on this mission. But my wits have left me, and we went south without a second thought. When we reached the building we were ordered to guard, I could not possibly fathom why anyone would want to break in there. When I found those dead Goblins I didn't know what to make of it. I went to fetch Torvald, and just then a Weasel attacked him. Vicious little thing! Torvald was apparently out of practise, because his first blow at the critter just struck air. Out of instinct I decided to throw a bag over the Weasel, and Torvald's axe sent the poor thing back towards its maker. Soon afterwards we could no longer deny the signs that the house had been broken in to. Especially when this overgrown cat stuck her head through the window! For a moment there I thought my concussion was even worse than I thought, and I was imagining things. It turned out this was only the beginning. When we entered the house, we came eye to eye with a party of adventurers, each one more excentric than the last. Remembering our mandate, I was ready for anything this group was going to throw on us. Except for what actually happened. When the transmuter showed his gems, I knew I had lost my companion to their cause. I guess it is true what they say; a Dwarf cannot resist the riches from the Earth. The transmuter fascinates me. Somehow the members of their party seem to understand his intentions without having to say a word. I wish I could say the same, but all that I got so far is that he seems to like to wave his arms around in the air, as if he's squatting flies. Ned wasn't of much help either, and as we were heavily outnumbered, I decided to go along with the group and explore the mansion. After all, they ARE right: this house does have a weird quality about it, something seems not quite right. I am determined to get to the bottom of it, and find out the role Ned is playing in this. I do not understand while the rest of our party doesn't seem to trust this simple gardener. I should see what he can tell me about Sanabel, yet another missing piece in this puzzle. My instincts told me this group cannot be trusted, but as we are going deeper into the mansion, I'm starting to think my instincts were wrong. When Jade gave that ring to Torvald, I couldn't help but admire her. It was exactly the right gesture to convince both of us of her honor and honest intentions. I'm afraid I might've been too hard on her. Hopefully I can repair the damage, because she and her companions are a vigilant bunch, and I actually feel safer now that I am with them. Maybe it is fate we met up. Either way, I've decided that for the time being, I'm throwing in my lot with them. I wish I could say the mansion makes me feel safe as well, but the opposite is true. Everything about this place just seems wrong. Nothing adds up. While my new-found companions seem all too happy about enriching themselves with whatever books and treasures we find along the way, I am determined to find out what is hidden beneath the shrouds that seem to lay over this place. Especially because the house somehow seems to be working against us. Not only is the place infested with rats, but the house itself is old and treacherous, as I found out when the floor almost collapsed beneath my feet. All in all, somehow my mandate to protect the mansion from intruders seems to have been replaced with a strong urge to explore this place. Is that just my instinct, or is some foul magic at play? I wonder what else is in store for us...
While we were continuing to investigate the mansion Batalia heard something outside. Before I knew it she had disappeared, and when she returned she was accompanied by a strange looking dwarf and elf. They seem to have been commissioned to keep people out of this place just like Ned, however they seem to be slightly less suspicious. They must not have been paid very much, because as soon as Kryikh pulled out a gem the dwarf seemed to have lost all allegiance to his employer and wanted to join us in our efforts. Some sort of sellsword no doubt. The elf was not so interested in the loot, and seemed quite annoyed with his dim witted companion's lack of loyalty. I believe he was wise however realizing the situation and that his safest option would be to continue forward with us. He seems rather timid and I shall keep a watchful eye on him as I am still unsure of his true intentions. After some interrogation from both sides we decided to continue on through the house. We fumbled about through multiple rooms where we encountered a small swarm of extremely large rats. Jade cleverly scared some of them away while Kryikh and myself disposed of the others. I offered the rat to Jade since I know cats usually enjoy a nice rat from time to time, but she seemed to be insulted. Perhaps she would enjoy fish from the swamp more. One of the rooms that we encountered was actually a grand library. So many interesting books! There surely must be some valuable knowledge among these books, however until we finish investigating this place to ensure we are safe the books will have to await our return. Eventually we came across a set of stairs which seemingly led down to the cellar. We decided that it would be best to further investigate this floor before moving on.
KRYIKH'S JOURNAL. Our exploration of the house was interrupted by the arrival of two newcomers, a dwarven warrior and a rather dazed-looking elf. They had apparently been sent by someone to make sure no-one entered the house. Since we were already inside, I thought it best to befriend them as quickly as possible, or at least to persuade them that joining us would be more lucrative than not. Together we managed to explore most of the ground floor of the house ... The only part which really mattered to me was the wonderful library. Full of books related to transmutation magic ... I could have spent a month there. Most of our time there was spent frantically trying to find the book which we'd heard about in town, that holds alchemical secrets. We didn't manage to find that, but I will return to study what is there once we have finished exploring the house. There are secrets here to be sure ...

Thanks Players! Good stories. Chris is reading-out-loud for us in the pre-game Skype today, telling Airen's story. Torvald is presenting some origin-story options from a PM where he's met up with Sandoval (4 options). Gray is coming along to join the session shortly. Battalia has to miss today. Please add to your character sheets, +250 XP (Torvald for the Dwarf's March 31 journal with dwarf runes glyph graphic) +250 XP (Sandoval for the Elf's March 31 journal with several images, going to abandoned mansion) +200 XP (Airen for Bullywug March 31 journal story, impressions of the other PC's, and reading) +200 XP (Kryikh for Kenku journal notes of March 31 session)
