Map making problems

So im pretty inept at creating maps for myself online and after many failures ive decided that perhaps i should just hand draw my map/dungeons. My question then being if this would be met with any diffilculties as far as scanning the physical copy and player preference.
I can't answer your main question, because I've never tried it. The only issue I can think of would be one of scale. You may have to mess around with how big you need to draw you map so that your grid is approximately 70x70px. However, if you are talking about mapping a dungeon on graph paper, you may want to check out: https://wiki.roll20.net/Category:Tips There's a tutorial on mapping with Gimp that walks you through the entire process. I have drawn my dungeons on graph paper first and then used that tutorial to convert it an image...

I make all my maps through gimp if I don't acquire them off of google and even then I still tweak them through gimp. What type of maps are you wanting to do. Overland, Towns, Dungeons, Battlemaps? There are slightly different procedures in doing them but they all boil down to the basics of finding your background texture ( choosing a simple color works also) if you want one, finding tiles to work with, and piecing it together. It's taken me years but I gathered a collection of tiles that I use and I'm still collecting them. I'm close to 8 to 10 gigs right now.

If you're looking for help/feedback on maps I highly suggest checking out the Cartographers' Guild over at http://www.cartographersguild.com/content/ . I don't think they can help specifically with the sizing issue, but a few hours on there taught me the beginnings of what has become some pretty good mapmaking, if I may say so myself.
