Push To Talk

May 27 (12 years ago)

Can we get a push to talk function?

yes please!

Awesome idea

Would Love to have this added to the game. Cuts out talking over other people, which while is the true Tabletop feel, isn't something I enjoy doing.

Well, more importantly, it keeps echo or background noises from driving everyone insane and muting the offender.  It's the main reason I use Steam voice over Skype most of the time, a push to talk key is just mandatory for some people to even talk at all.

If something like this were to be implemented I want it as an additional option, because I prefer the existing set up, personally...

I would LOVE something like this. It would make running games with lots of people far less frustrating. Fantastic idea as an additional option.

You need to go to tokbox.com and talk to them about putting in a push to talk feature. Asking for it here won't do any good..

I will, thanks for the advice. I will also post the thread on here so that others can support it much like they are supporting this thread. The more attention it gets, the better.

Agrees with Crim. When 6 people are playing it causes some channels/players difficulty to hear/talk.

If you opt to use Skype, you can just use the mute mic button

I got ya Colin, good point. I can't be certain that will help some, not sure people are using computers/devices that can handle all that bandwith at once.

I mean that the chat is sometimes causing problems with bandwidth (or other issue) when say 6 people are always broadcasting voice. I was thinking maybe that issue could be helped or reduced if there was a push to talk button.

Did what Crim suggested (post at tokbox) they replied: (had to make an account, but fast reply)

Hi
You can make the publisher publish with no audio first. Then when they press a button, you can make it so you call publishAudio(true) on the publisher.
Starting the publisher without audio: http://tokbox.com/opentok/docs/js/refer ... tPublisher
Making the publisher use audio: http://tokbox.com/opentok/docs/js/refer ... blishAudio

Maybe this will help Devs or someone figure it out. I'm not tech savvy.
