I ran across something the other day quite by accident. They were called Rory's Story Dice. Its a set of 9 6-sided (I still laugh that only games have to denote what die they are talking about) with a different image on each face, for a total of 54 unique icons. The idea is you throw all the dice arrange them in a random order and come up with a story to go with the images. Its typically used as a free-association thinking tool. Then I got to thinking about this. I remember back in the early 90s a few companies dumped some dice on the market of a similar make. They were specific though, like directions in a dungeon, random trap, etc. And I seem to remember maybe a few story-like dice. Well this of course got me interested because some times you can't come up with an idea and some times you just want something to make your brain work on. So I got on the web and spent the better part of the afternoon looking for a website or java applet I just knew someone had to have developed because the idea is so cool. Besides which it would be a fun tool for gamers. To my surprise I found NOTHING. Now, if it this sounds of interest to you, please hunt for such a creation on the web. Let me know. I think its a great idea. In the meantime, I need to talk the wife into letting me buy a set of Rory's to fiddle with.
