Game Schedule

This is where I'll post the alerts and schedule about an upcoming game. I know I've been keeping you waiting. I was struggling to learn the whole Roll20 system, to upload some maps, and the cardboard tokens from the original game box, but I've done that. I've now made a serviceable character sheet and you can generate characters with it if you want. Be sure to Duplicate the Character Sheet, then remove "All Players" from the ability to Edit and place your name in the Edit space instead. Take note that I have some mid-strength pre-generated characters that I'm writing up too! People may choose from these for a one-off game and I'll assign control of the character sheet and a corresponding token. For example, Boomer and Ladaan the Dralasites are now fully written up. There are 3 token-connected characteristics on each character sheet: -- STA mina, naturally. The Green Heart circle on the token. When you go below half your stamina, you are considered "wounded" and you're -10% to attacks and other skill rolls, your movement drops to half, and you get only one attack per six-second turn. Being wounded is indicated by a red dot on the token. -- AMMO : The Blue Lightning Bolt circle on the token. To fire any weapon you must subtract an ammo clip of the appropriate kind from the Equipment, and transfer it to the Characteristic space. For example, 1 powerclip (which has 20 Standard Energy Units or SEUs) is taken off the Equipment and is then shown as 20/20 SEU in the Ammo space of the Characteristics. This will appear on the token and you can mark off ammo consumption from either place. Exception: a newly bought weapon is assumed to have one clip of ammo with it. Reloading a weapon usually costs one six-second turn, and you can't do anything else except walk and dodge attacks. -- NRG : ("energy") The Red Heartbeat circle on the token. Used to record a source of energy used to power weapons, defenses or other things. For example, a Power Beltclip has 50 SEU's. If a character wears more than one energy source other than powerclips, it can be shown as NRG1 and NRG2.

TEST GAME: THURSDAY NIGHT THUNDER Thurs. 06/06/2013 7:00 PM and 11:00 PM Eastern Daylight Time (GMT-4). I've been storing up maps and characters and am dying to test it out. I will be running mini-combat games , something like things that were presented in the original Star Frontiers Basic booklet. If you want to get familiar with the STAR FRONTIERS rules, or you are an experienced player who wants to warm up, you can join me for two mini-combat-scenarios: DUUUUUUUUUUNE: The party encounters a series of desert creatures. Straight-up combat. MEAN STREETS OF PORT LOREN: What American movies are full of: car-chases and explosions. Port Loren is the most built-up city in the whole Frontier. Pursue criminals in vehicles on the large Port Loren map included with the original boxed set. This seamlessly mixes the combat rules with vehicle rules, so pile in and shoot the bad guys. Avoid "loss of control" and "collision" situations, which have various effects including the dreaded "roll and burn". And remember: what's behind you is NO LONGER important! I will start things at 7 PM, maybe it takes 2-3 hours total. Since I don't have to go to work on Friday, I'll do it again at 11 PM with a new batch of players especially from time-zones further West. Nothing very formal, just to help me figure out GMing on Roll20. Of course, you are free to download and read the first couple of dozen pages of Alpha Dawn rules, and get the Quick-Reference Guide (game tables) for reference: http://starfrontiersman.com/downloads/remastered A more official game, like with a PLOT and stuff, will begin no earlier than Sat. June 15th, every 2 wks. AUDIO: I want to play it with the Roll20 microphone and cam system. You should have at least a microphone, but one or two players who can only text will not hurt the game as long as they can hear me. If Roll20 lags too much I may switch to Skype, which has very clear sound for conference calls. Everyone, try to get a Skype.com account.
Damn. Sorry chief, I'm gonna be out of contact this Thursday.
Is it okay if I jump in a little late tomorrow night? Not sure I can make it by 7 (6 my time).

Okay, I'm coming online and I will be running 2 time-slots tonight: 7 PM and 11 PM Eastern Time. I admit it was short-notice and I've gotten little response so far. New players are welcome. This game is "test" quality and consists of mini-combat scenarios run to illustrate the Star Frontiers quick-playing combat system. The token system which links to the prepared character sheets works great. We may have a player coming in a little late, so it may start some time after 7. There is a magic curse on the land, and its name is Time Zone Differences. "Plot?! We don't need no stinking plot!"
I'm leaving work now and hope to be online for the start of game 2.

There was no Game 1. I got a player, but he opted for the later time-slot.
June 7 is another game at 11pm, yeah?

If that's the time you want, Lou, I can schedule it and see who else I can attract! I've got all Friday off so I'll be fresh! I have only two mini-games so far, similar to the original Star Frontiers Basic booklet, but as usual the combat system is fast and furious. I can run this several times to fresh batches of players to introduce this classic game. Comfirm if it's the time you prefer.

DE-BRIEFING: Thanks to Sean D., Justin S., and Atlas (Wes) for trying out my mini-combat "Duuuuune" at 11 PM (EDT). The token system works great as variable stats like Stamina and Ammo were paired up to the sheet and could be marked off easily. I wish the color-code box would be marked on tokens and sheets as well as player names to keep everything straight. As I learn the mechanics of Roll20 I'll pick up speed. Weekend times are preferred because I was starting to slow down. I talk all day at work, and run out of talk for GMing, so weekends will keep me fresher! Other observations: aggressive creatures love Vrusk because "everybody gets a drumstick." People couldn't see the stats in the Attributes & Abilities page until they were actually given control of the sheet. I will simply type up the character stats on the Bio & Info page too, so you can make an informed choice when selecting a character. We were just bashing monsters in the sands, and didn't get to my other scenario, "Mean Streets of Port Loren" (car-chase). Star Frontiers beautifully integrates melee, ranged, vehicle and aerial combat in the same turns. The "digitally remastered" rules are downloadable for free from Starfrontiersman.com : http://www.starfrontiersman.com/downloads/remastered
That's 10 PM my time. I should be back in town by then. I'm in!

FRIDAY NIGHT FURY: Same deal as Thursday Night Thunder. 11 PM Eastern time. Two mini-combat scenarios are offered for players who didn't do it yet, "Duuuuune" and the unused "Mean Streets of Port Loren".

Bellyboy, I'd suggest to new players like you to start by going into the game even when it's inactive, and reading the "Rules Summary and Downloads You Should Have" Handout. Two key pages from the rules charts are also given (click to zoom, and also press F11 to enlarge your browser screen). Then if you can you can download all these charts (the "Quick Reference Tables") as well as the main Star Frontiers: Alpha Dawn rules. The first couple of dozen pages are worth reading, if possible. The rest is less important. But since you're designing your own game, you might find the pages about designing an adventure and running a game VERY valuable. The game company knew the game would end up far and wide in bookstores, and gave careful instructions in case the buyer never met any experienced gamers in their area.

I am doing a test game again on Thursday June 13 at 7 PM and 11 PM Eastern Daylight Time (GMT-4), for those who haven't tried any Star Frontiers. Again I'll be running "Duuuuune!" (critter combat) and then "Mean Streets of Port Loren" (car-chase). I ran a bit too slow last time and players quit after one set of monsters and didn't get to Port Loren at all. Nights after work I run out of energy but I'll just drink more coffee, lol. If I don't blab a blue streak, it's not a game! I will repeat the test game Sat. June 15 at the 2 times again. Then, the REAL game should hopefully be started every 2 weeks starting Sat. June 22 at 7 PM EDT. At the start, your characters are slated to be Star Law rangers and the Primary Skill Area is military. In Game Procedures I advise how you can make a character design a bit stronger than a beginning character.

No takers for 7 PM, that's fine. There is one person trying to get on for 11 PM, all who haven't tried the game yet are welcome to this test game.

Still no takers for 11 PM Eastern Daylight Time, that player got in and tried to make contact but no microphone or text came through. I will offer this again on Saturday at the same times.
Sat at both times is good for me.

Course not! You'll know it all the 2nd time. Do a simple Star Frontiers scene for me. I got most of the tokens from the original game stored.

Well, that's not good if you can't talk! Listen in if you want an idea of the game BUT DON'T TALK. Once you are better, make sure you have a working microphone tested with an Audio Wizard that plays the microphone recording back at you.
I'm feeling better now, mic. should work, thanks for the support.

First Saturday test-game session is on NOW! 7 PM Eastern time. I can run the same thing at 11 PM Eastern as well. The time is advanced to 7:45 p.m. purely to keep the ad up in the Looking for Group for any later joiners.

For my Saturday "test-game" session of 7 PM, Bellyboy joined, but we only had time to go over the combat rules and play with one Sandshark. Then he had to go. I may offer another time to play the car-chase scenario only. I am running another session at 11 PM Eastern, but Lou the Mad is already here before this time. Those who have access can join us. I'll be checking the LFG also for later joiners. I feel confident with Roll20 and can start a regular campaign starting either Sat. ???? All it takes is talent, imagination and skill. That's all!

Still recuperating from the test game on Saturday. I introduced the main combat rules, but no one got to try my car-chase mini-combat game. I haven't yet fixed the start of the regular campaign except that it will be a Saturday at 7 p.m. Eastern Time and be held every 2nd week. Information about designing a game character, a little more powerful than the starting characters in the rules, can be found in the Game Procedures section.
So is this a live game? If so, when and what day?

It would be Sat. 7 p.m. Eastern Time (daylight savings time now actually makes it GMT-4), every 2 weeks. But I haven't fixed the exact start yet. Still digging up campaign notes and revising them. My style focuses on descriptive powers and old-school GM skills to feel out gamers and tailor to gamer preferences (the fast-paced socko combat of the game but also storytelling, roleplaying, police procedural in this case, whatever each player may prefer.) I give instructions for character generation in the Procedures thread; see if you can duplicate the character sheet, take out the "All Players" access on the duplicate and stick in your name instead.
Well I would vote for Monday or Tuesday as those days are COMPLETELY open and I have NO scheduling conflicts.
An occasional weekday game would be great, particularly for those of us who are rarely available on weekends.

I have been at a standstill for the past 2 weeks since some test games and combat. No new game date to announce. As sometimes happened to you, I got "blindsided" when I could finally get a virtual copy of the TRAVELLER 5th-edition RPG rules. It is a massive 656-page work for those madmen like me who want to randomly generate the whole universe: stars, planets, planet maps down to 1 km hexagons, life-forms, intelligent aliens (sophonts), characters for the players, starships, vehicles, gears, and guns, guns, guns! When I do announce a full-fledged campaign, it will be structured as every 2nd week, on a Saturday at 7 p.m. EST AND possibly an independent series on some other evening for another set of players.
Okay. Good to know, chief.
well, im free tomarrow(maybe) and Wednesday but after thursday im gone for 3weeks
