New Player wishing to learn!

I'm trying to learn the ropes of how this site works as well as the various systems for gameplay, making races, and so forth. Would anyone be willing to teach me?
what systems do you have at least the corebooks of?

This is a platform to play role-playing games. Those games use rules. Those rules are in the books. Corebooks are the basics of each game. You can get the books either at a physical store or through sites like http://rpg.drivethrustuff.com/ in digital form (far cheaper). You can find an adapted AD&D called ORSIC for free in PDF at that website. Without those, there's not much you can play despite rolling dice and smiling at how many crits you get. Games you might want to check would be: - Dungeons & Dragons 4e - Dungeons & Dragons 3.5e - Pathfinder - Shadowrun (3e, 4e) - Dragon Age RPG Those are the ones I've seen most played around.

He means what game system have you any experience in? Are you experienced in any version of D&D? Have you played in any game before? What are you looking at getting out of this site Tom N? Are you wanting to find a long term group or just what is called one shots (those are just one session usually) to learn from? Are you looking at wanting to play fantasy, scifi, horror, or another genre?

I'm looking to play fantasy, and I just need to learn, but I dont really have the money to blow to get the corebooks. I just need someone who can teach me how to play. I'm not worried about GMing here.
You need the books even to be a player. There's a lot of rules you need to know, really. It's not like learning Poker. It's harder to learn, but far easier to master.

There are some free systems, like the ORSIC I mentioned. It's not that we don't want to share the rules, it's that the simple version of the rules is 200 pages long easily. The full version could reach the 10000 in games like D&D 3.5

Tom join my game, i sent you an invite. I'd invite you too Pablo but for beginners only.
*sigh* look at your PM inbox. Technically you could learn it that way, but you'd drag the game terribly. You need to know exactly (and not have a faint idea of) how your spells/skills/whatever work, and you may have 20-30 of them at any given point. Different systems have different rulesets, and even different dices are used. The very basics are simple, but that will get you through a one-on-one fight, but not a dungeon, much less a campaign. EDIT: Good luck, Leigh :) NP, if you wish to take care of him, be my guest. Have fun!
If you want tom, you can play my game. It's a real simple system of give me a story and I fill a sheet out for you. It's like Amber, diceless roleplaying, except with dice. It's like paranoia except you don't have feats to stare at It's like mutants and masterminds, but the only thing that's the same is that it's a hero campaign.

I'm pretty green to the whole tabletop RPG thing as well... I've only played 2 sessions of Dark Heresy in RL (one was real fun, the other less so). If there is room for another new player, I would be interested in seeing how well it all works on here as well.
