Marvel Superheroes RPG (TSR)

Seeking players for a campaign of Marvel Superheroes by TSR but using the new retro-clone of the game called FASERIP. It updates some of the rules but maintains the amazing gameplay of the original. You can get it FREE at: DOWNLOAD . Print copies are also able to be purchased. This is an amazing game and is easy to learn. There are a few ideas I have for a campaign and we may do more than one of these. 1) A Batman bat-family game centered in Gotham City. Gritty and dark. 2) A Justice League Unlimited style game. 3) Various Marvel Universe stuff. In each of these scenarios players will be able to play as their favorite iconic characters and will have the choice of creating a custom character of their choice. The majority of people will be playing the iconic characters from their respective comic universe though. I am also seeking any people that might be willing to assist me in running the game, doing a co-GM kind of setup where we will both be able to play occasionally and run occasionally.
If you'll teach me, I'd love to play in either 2 or 3. I prefer more street level/mid powered characters, and would like to play an original character.
FASERIP is reasonably easy to learn, and does a better job of allowing powers some variety (with power stunts) than most pointbuy systems (for which you pretty much have to buy every effect you'll ever want to use, or develop a "variable" effect to mimic them).
It is indeed VERY easy to learn and you can download a FREE copy of the rules at the link I listed above. I am hoping to start this project soon so let's keep the recruiting rolling!
I love super hero games! I am used to mostly champions but am more than willing to play a new system. Would like to play my own character though. I have an idea for an anchient chinise dragon for a justice league unlimited game.
What, no Punisher? ;-)
I love the the first campaign idea but the other two sound great also. If you set this up I'd love to have the opportunity to play. Thanks!
Interested in 2 & 3. Day & time prospects?
Sadly, I only play in text games. I've been missing FASERIP so much...
Is this dead already?
This is not dead. I am actively working on stuff for this campaign.
I am very interested especially 2 or 3. I played this game with some friends briefly till we found you could always max out DMG by charging far enough. Will check out the new rules though and would like to play a custom character.
Max out damage? Damage is always the same accoring to your Strength attribute.
I forget exactly but found a break down in the original rules with Charge attacks.
daddystabz said: Max out damage? Damage is always the same accoring to your Strength attribute. Charge attacks didn't work that way. Charge was based off of Endurance, and used either your Endurance rank or Body Armor rank to determine damage. Additionally, you got +1CS to damage for each area that you moved through to reach your target, up to +3CS. A character with decent body armor (which was better than Endurance, since you took reflected damage if they other character had body armor of their own) could churn out huge amounts of damage against foes. Many of my characters who were NOT built for charging would sometimes use it as a last resort because even my weak characters could pound out a powerful charge without a lot of effort. That being said, I peeked at the retro clone, and wasn't particularly happy with what I found, and I didn't even get past the first couple of pages. I like to build a character type, and the rules pretty much prevent that. It makes things too random. I hate random.
So.. any decision on which of the 3 games we are going to do?
I vote for the JLU game. (If that matters at all).
I also vote JLU

Also I think you can choose instead of doing all random, but I remember the old system had a very random system that could be used too, which we did and everyone ended up at vastly different power levels.

I guess on what home rules the person using the retro clone may put into effect. As it's written (or, at least if I'm understanding it correctly), all of the stats start off at a set "power level" for the game, and may get shifted up or down by a few random rolls. With seven stats and only six shifts to apply (three up and three down), you're going to end up with stats that don't stray very far from the initial target. Personally, I'd just get PDFs of the old books (which are out of print, and available for free online) and use them.

Sorry my bad
Sorry my bad
You are talking about the TSR Marvel Superheroes Advanced Set Megan? As I just looked it back up and its character generation is a lot more random then this clone.
this looks interesting.
I vote number 3
The clone is superior to the original game in a few key ways. This is why I'm using the retro clone which you can download for free. Stay tuned all. I will be posting soon an update. I am prepping the first adventure already. I will allow for some house modification on hero creation as well. We will likely need to set up a session where we meet and just discuss characters and get them prepared. Even though I'm allowing for some custom characters I do want the mainstays of the JL to be played such as Superman, Cyborg, Shazam, Wonder Woman, etc. I will likely roleplay Batman as an NPC in the JL game and sometimes maybe Shazam if noone else is playing him. Do you all have Skype? I am warduke5150 on there. A Skype conference call might be the best way for us to coordinate a meeting to discuss character generation.
P.S. linking people to the old Marvel TSR game should NOT be considered copyright violation or piracy. It is out there for free on the internet and has the blessing of both Marvel and the original creator of the game, Jeff Grub. classicmarvelforver is a well known and respected website.
daddystabz is correct. <a href="http://www.classicmarvelforever.com" rel="nofollow">www.classicmarvelforever.com</a> has sustained itself for many, many years without interference from Marvel, WoTC, Gygax's people or anyone else in the RPG and/or comic book industry. As far as character selection goes, I'll take Hal Jordan if he hasn't been called yet. Are you going to send us an invite to join, daddystabz?
Scratch that. I'll take the Martian Manhunter.
I will indeed send out invites soon.

Step 1: Please go to this link and join the campaign. <a href="https://app.roll20.net/join/863227/LBKvuw" rel="nofollow">https://app.roll20.net/join/863227/LBKvuw</a> Step 2: Please go to this link: CLICK ME! and post your availability so we can try to decide upon a time and day of the week. We will also look at if the game will be weekly or bi-weekly. Fridays are currently bad for me because I play in a face-to-face D&D 5e game on Friday evenings and Sundays I GM a End of the World Zombie Apocalypse game over Fantasy Grounds.
