Not smart enough to operate D&D5e character sheet initiative button

Brand new to roll20, and trying to set up a 5e campaign for some scattered friends. Character sheet is great and once set up, will make things easy. But I can't get the initiative button to work. I thought it would be a dex check (with some possible mods) & record the number. But I'm getting errors (no token selected, for example). I select the token tied to the sheet and... nothing. No matter how many times I click. Nothing. So how is the initiative button supposed to work and what am I doing wrong?

Do you have all relevant fields filled in? A number of sheets have problems with their roll buttons if it's trying to use the value of a blank field.

All you need to get the initiative button to work on the 5e sheet is to have a dexterity filled in and a token selected that's tied to that character sheet so it sounds like you're doing everything right. Do other check buttons work on the character sheet?

I must be missing a field somewhere, but I don't know where. From the screenshot, Perry T. posted, I think I have the token setup properly, but can't get the "Initiative" button to anything. Posting a screenshot of my own to see if you can spot what I've missed. I have Token representing character Dunlavey selected, character's sheet, and several rolls made with the sheet. Some saves, some attacks, and finally the result from clicking the "Initiative" button a few times.. Notice nothing happened after the Firebolt cantrip.
So the Token is representing the Character Sheet, but is the Character sheet have the default token set to the same token??
Like this?

Have you tried making a new character sheet and testing just the initiative button? Just to make sure it is a sheet thing and not just a weird input for that character. Also, if you hit the Initiative button and then click in the chat box and press the up arrow do you get any macro text? If so, can you post it here?
I made roll20 versions of all the characters from my table game, just to see how the transfer process worked. There were a couple minor class--specific questions I still need tracked down. But the initiative button just flat hasn't worked with any character. I just made a new dummy character for the purpose of telling you step-by-step what I did and what is happening. 1) Added a new character and set the basic abilities to 15's & 8's 2) searched for and chose a random free fighter token from the marketplace and dropped it onto the tabletop. 3) set the token's "represents" to the new character 4) made sure the character sheet had the correct token 5) clicked on some saving rolls to make sure that was working correctly 6) clicked on initiative button and got nothing (notice the initiative total is the Dex modifier, which I didn't specify was happening earlier). And by nothing, I mean nothing. No macro text, no sound, no response at all. This screen shot is after the saving rolls and after clicking on initiative 6+ times.
Steven, you free within the next 15 or so minutes? I can jump in your game and walk you through this probably.
Thanks for all the help, everyone.
Did you get this figured out? What was going on?
Haven't the slightest clue what happened, and I dont even think it could be replicated. They got it working now though, so its all good. Replaced the DnD 5e sheet with the 5e shaped sheet.
