Possibility of playing "offline" ?

Hi, Because it's very hard to gather my people on a regular basis, I'm looking for a way to create a game where we can at times play all together, but also be able to advance in between sessions. Can Roll20,net support this kind of game play with this kind of situation : DM: Describes area and situation to the players. (As some sort of post) Player : I move to X area and perform a perception check to locate Y ***Question*** : Is there a way that the player can login, post his action and roll a D20 for his perception check which will be automatically captured and inserted in a campaign log (can't be modified by the player of course). The DM is then notified that an action/post was made and can go login to follow up on it. Players would also receive notifications when the DM... or anyone for that matter posted an update in the campaign. I realize that this method will make a game go to a crawl, but at least it will keep moving in between sessions that are very very sparse. Thanks!

Hello Francys. You are describing asynchronous games (such as play by post) and roll20 supports that rather easy. Players can enter the campaign anytime they want whether the GM is there or not. It is up to the gm to decide if he wants the game to be ran in the forums (multiple locations through the use of separate threads) or if he wants to run it in the game chat itself (I have ran these types). Either method works very easily.

The first part of your request is easy; as Pat S. has indicated your players can enter the campaign at any time and roll dice and leave chatter for you. Any member of the campaign can view the Chat Archive for the game to see what's been happening. The second part is, at this time, not as easy. There's no way to get a notification that something new has happened in the game. On your account page ( https://app.roll20.net/account ), you can choose to receive email alerts about forum posts you follow updating (and all posts to your campaign's forum are auto-followed) and you could have your players use the forums to announce their actions with the dice rolling being on the table. This approach would give you the closest approximation of what you're asking for. I hope this helps! Good luck and good gaming. (Edits to clean up typos and thinkos)
Cool! Thanks a lot Pat and GenKitty. That was very helpful. Cheers!
