Fusions

Character gen was getting a bit long winded and we probably need a place to discuss what our fusions would end up being. So if I've got this right several of the cliches will combine, all base gem abilities at least. but fusions tend to have some cliches unique to themselves. I.e. Opal's aoe/multiattack arrow, Sugilite's large size, personality quirks aside.
It actually looks like Fusions scale on size based on the amount of Gems involved. Remember that Sugilite is technically 3 gems fused, whereas Opal is just 2. Garnet is composed of 2 smaller gems. Most games tend to handle fusions by taking the best physical qualities of all Gems involved and mashing them together.
Well yes and no, Garnet is more stable/integrated so she's kind of an exception to the rule. Alexandrite isn't much taller than Sugilite and around the same overall volume, her size seems to be an indicator of being forceful and nearly uncontrolled power in addition to the increase in size from being a fusion. I guess that fusions that don't have an emphasis on raw power/stable/have a member with a penchant for control wouldn't be nearly as big for obvious reasons. The main thing that doesn't have a lot of examples is how their skills work out, since fusions usually only are used for combat probably because of the personality spillover problem after being fused for too long (whether or not Opal would be as capable of building things as Pearl or stacking like Amethyst). Found a handy chart: http://www.lunarseaspire.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/sizechartfull.png
Well if anyone wants to talk fusions with me I'm happy to do so c:, but note, even when Fordite does have such an ability, she is reluctant to use it, due to personal issues.
Zirconia is eager to please, so she will fuse with pretty much anyone that asks.
[George Takei impression] Oh myyy [/George Takei impression]
What, feeling like she might "pollute" other, proper gems in her view? Either way, as far as weapons go I'd think with Fordite it'd become some sort of greatsword, maybe the sort with the rounded end. Or possibly making multiple force edges from the shield tech/telekinesis, possibly both? Or maybe it'd just be for the other aspects while we're Cloud Strife-ing. Zirconia, double hammers either dual weilding or attached into a staff-thing, maybe one flaming and the other iced. Is Blue Collar Gem your defensive cliche? Kinda don't know what it'd be with Nephite, a heavy crossbow maybe, something like Bianca? Considering their very different combat styles the fusion might possibly be the more useful for making things/research than anything else.
Adem B. said: Is Blue Collar Gem your defensive cliche? It can be. She'd probably use it to soak damage since it's based on how durable and resilient her hard-work ethic/design makes her. It also explains her ability to do "grunt work" jobs swiftly and with precision.
It's not that she is afraid of tainting pure gems, it's that she doesn't want them tainting her. If that doesn't make sense, let me explain it like this. She knows she's not a real gem, (made of old car paint) and wants to prove that she can be just as good as a real gem. So she will go to great lengths to do so at times. It would take some convincing or a situation where there was no other choice in order to get her to fuse. Let's see, in a fusion, depending on who fordite fused with, her swordsmanship would either be more defensive or offensive. In the case of Bix, it would add some extra oomph to her shield, like maybe a deflective shield, or countering shield. I could also see palette swap being very useful here, especially since she's a gemgineer. imagine needing to do quick repairs that can't be done by yourself, BOOM several more (fusion name here) to get the job done Zirnconia is a little harder, perhaps adding differently colored sword bits to the drill hammer, turning it into a slaughter machine. The two of them might go well together personality wise, or since they are so similar personality wise they may not last long when fused, but perhaps their nee to seek approval or prove themselves might make them a strong fusion to contend with For Nephrite I see the two of them fusing well on the weapon front, Palette swap plus Telekinesis makes for an awesome homing rain of death arrows.
