DM LF players for D&D5e Lost Mines of Phandelver Adventure (Tuesdays weekly) new players welcome

Hi all, I'm Joseph and I'd like to run a D&D5e campaign called Lost Mine of Phandelver. It is a pre-made adventure by Wizards and comes with the Starter Pack available for purchase at retail stores. I have been played a few games with some friends however due to schedule differences we were not able to get very far, so I would consider myself new to DMing. If your new to D&D or tabletop role playing games this could be a perfect adventure to help get you started, I only ask that you download the free basic rules PDF from the Wizards website and create a character. Experienced players are also welcome of course. I hope to run the campaign on Tuesday evenings (about 7pm BST) each week however I am also available Wednesday and Thursday nights if that is preferable. I will be posting the campaign using the Looking for Group system built in to Roll20 but I thought I would post here while I prepare the campaign. I have purchased all three 5e Handbooks and (as mentioned above) have ran a few games already so I am confident in my DMing skills and have a fairly good grasp on the rules. If your interested or have any questions reply to this thread and I will get back to you as soon as possible. Thanks for reading :D
Hi there! I'm nowhere near new to D&D but I am new to D20.net! I'm a very experienced player and fairly experienced DM - currently running a custom world using 5th edition in a face-2-face real life setting - but am looking for ways to 'relax' as a PC without starting up a whole other game group. Mostly because it wouldn't ever happen! I am located in Canada but since I work nights for the most part - scheduling with your BST times will actually be easier for me - so no worries there. So if you're interested in having someone who knows the drill to shore up your potential rookies - I would be happy to fill that role - while I stumble around and figure out how this website works ;-) Oh and don't worry - my tabletop group doesn't go in for the pre-made adventures these days - so my DM experience does not imply that I know what's going to happen already XD

I'm in, though I'm still kinda new to D20 RPGs and still don't really know how roll20 works
Hey! I'm completely new to Roll20 and D&D in general but I heard 5E was a great place to start. If you wouldn't mind, I would love to play and get used to the game through your campaign! Is there anything in particular you'd like me to do along with making a character? I'll have to read the basic rules (since no money and such at the moment) but I could easily make a character or even, if you think it'd be better for a new person, use one of the free pre-built ones? Let me know!

you can download the players handbook as a PDF for free...also if it's okay with everyone I just made a Tiefling fighter for this
I have to read over the basics again (its been a while) but I made a Half-Elf Ranger (might look into others though, I just enjoy elves and such).
wood elves, high elves, and drow are all standard options in 5th if you wanna look at those
Will do! Thanks for the info.
you're welcome, I got into the game because in 8th grade my dad gave me his old 3rd edition books
Awesome, your both welcome to join. Im not going to restrict character creation as I feel its more fun for everyone that way. Although I would advise against being an evil character since the adventure has a "good vs evil" theme. Feel free to use pre-made characters if your more comfortable with one however I would like you to have a go at building your own so you will have a much better idea of what the character is capable of and what his or her personality is. I am also putting together some preliminary information to describe the setting which I will post to you soon as its ready. This might help with coming up with some background ideas. I am just waiting to get some loose change together so I can get a few assets from the market place then I will be ready to go. Also, please let me know if you have mics/webcams, just so I know whether to use just audio or not. Thanks, I will link you both to the campaign soon.
I have a mic and stuff. Is the Point Buy system fine?
Karion Creed is Chaotic Good, I have a mic/webcam built into my laptop, but it's not working right now

Nykromantyk said: will giving you Karion Creed's backstory help with that at all? Its pretty standard set-up stuff so it wont be too hard. I can, however, try to adopt it into the adventure later on, so you can send it to me if like anyway and i'll message you with any additional information. This can apply to anyone else if they are interested. Dennis W. said: Is the Point Buy system fine? Honestly, I'm not 100% sure what you mean by that so ill go with "I have no idea" ^^ It will be important that all players have at least a mic, just so we're all on the same page in terms of communication. If your having technical issues please let me know when you have resolved them. My mics on the fritz too but I got a new one ordered.
Right now I only feel comfortable with text...
All stats start as the base 8 and I have 27 points to put in without going over 15 on any stat. From what I know at least.

I just roll four d6s, reroll 1s, and drop the lowest result to get each stat

The best way I find is to roll 4D6 and add up the 3 highest scores, do this 6 times and apply the totals to the stat you want.

If you change your mind you know where to find me :) it's because I'm having trouble figuring out skype and google voice is having issues there is a native video and audio function in Roll20 apparently, according to all the advertisements that lead me here :) I'll be testing this out at some point before the campaign begins.

I'll roll then, once I look over everything (its getting pretty late so I'll have to do it tomorrow).
Is it too late? Can I join this group? I'm new to this site, and fairly new to D&D too, but I've been playing lost mines of phandelver with my friends for the past 6 months and would love to join this group... if you'd have me. =). Thanks!
Its not too late to join Phil, 4 players is the recommended amount. If you have played Lost Mines before then it might not be very exciting for you and may tempt you into playing the meta-game to much. I really think it wont be a problem, then I don't see why not.
SO, I have decided to be a High Elf Ranger (with a weird background) and it says I can get 1 wizard cantrip. Does that mean a level 0 or level 1?

Great! I don't mind playing Lost Mines again. I played it with my casual friends and went through it hacking and slashing. I sort of wanted to get a more real game experience, and I wasn't paying too much attention to the story, so this time around I want to play it the right way. Meta-gaming won't be a problem. I'll play like I haven't played it before.
If you still have room for more I would like to get in on this!
^ ditto, need something to do on tuesdays

Sorry Zach and Aiden but i think the party is full now. I'll keep you both in mind in case someone drops out though.
