Some basic lore

More details will be said in game. This is a thread to give you an idea of what the world around you is like

You start off in a city called River-Run. It's a northerly city that's rather peaceful given the time you adventurers live in. Of the seven kingdoms, the one you're in is called Felador. Mainly run by elves it's got a very D&D standard feel. South of it is a mega city many miles across as a seperate kingdom, the Iron Kingdom, run by dwarves and men. To the north-west is Winterhelm, a wild tundra ruled by no king, but more of a neutral post. Think of it as Skyrim, with several different dwarven "chiefs" keeping locals in place. To the far south, however, there's a Great War.

The kingdom of Thessia, another elvish one, is under attack, with its main city right on the border of invaded land. The kingdom attacking it in question is called Krathia. Krathia's mainland across the sea to the south is not dissimilar to mordor; barren land and volcanic spew populated by hordes of the land's evil, like demons, orcs and goblins (maybe beholders? :P) It houses another mega-city called Crathoterra, a blackened run down distopia looming in the shadow of the island's massive volcano.

The war doesn't just rage here however. Between Krathia's mainland and Eldrasia's more civil land is a third smaller island. The kingdom of Takri, a proud human colony, used to reside here. Now only three costal cities remain in Takri control, under constant siege by Krathian invaders. The few who stay battle to regain their homeland against the odds. The last kingdom however seems to be doing much better. Draconia is situated on the easy of Kratia's mainland, and it's a land of rolling planes as far as the eye can see, ruled by dragonborn and metallic dragons. They used to be at peace with Krathia until they overstepped their borders. Declaring war the draconian's pushed their attackers back into their homeland and constructed a Great Wall to prevent further invasion.

Three main factions therefore exist; Krathia as a tyrannical army hell bent on ruling the three islands, Eldrasia, consisting of the Iron Kingdom, Felador, Tesia, Takri and Draconia trying to fend them off, and the neutral state of Winterhelm, who seem intent to let the war blow over and hope to not get involved. They....probably will have to pick a side though

You'll notice that some races have a few tweaks taking this into account. Draconia dragonborn, for instance, are regarded more of a warrior race who see honor in battle. Tieflings make many nervous, as they often hail from the evil Krathian kingdom. And there are two types of elves, humans and dwarves as per how the kingdoms are laid out, which you'll see in time.

That's the brief rundown to get you to speed. If you want to ask questions about specific kingdoms just leave a comment below

Skyrim, much? (Riverrun as the starting city)
Actually more based off of LotR, as it's not so much civil war and more one for survival

Sounds pretty awesome. So I'm curious, how involved in the war is Felador, and whats the general environment there?

Felador is acting as a refugee nation at the moment, and they are trying to work out a diplomatic means to stop Krathia invading their territory. That being said they aren't pacifists and will fight if need be. You'll see refugees from Takri and Draconia often here, and a minority of more civilised Krathians who don't agree with war as much and want to work out a better solution (sadly not many of them exist as well as none with high power, so the war ain't stopping soon)

The environment is very similar to medieval England; mostly forest with some villages and towns doted throughout the land. The summers are warm, the winters are snowy and the towns are friendly. Being mostly run by elf mages magic plays a large part of the people's lives, with each town having their own magic school. Wildlife consists mainly of deer, wolves, bears and other forest animals. There's a few smaller dungeons peppered around as well, so keep an eye out. Creatures around here are generally level 1-3, but you may run into an exception or two if you roll bad perception checks (hint hint)
So Draconia is not as clan based as other versions of dragonborns?

Nope. Draconia is one nation with a king, and Dragonborn are seen as a proud warrior race. There are a few notable differences:
  • Eldrasian Dragonborn appear more like large humans with lizard-like scales, tails and other things (generally still look like a reptile though)
  • Most are proficient in some kind of weapon, save for older individuals or priests. Even children are taught how to use a sword of sorts
  • They forge their own unique brand of weapons that are more durable and lighter than regular weapons, made of a metal called Dragonsteel. Damage for Dragonsteel weapons have a +5 modifier, so aren't available at lower levels, save for daggers, and armours have +4 AC. Armours are available earlier, but are classified as heavy and are physically designed to fit dragonborn, so won't fit most classes/races (humans, half-orcs and half-elfs might be able to wear smaller/lighter versions). Custom armour can be forged, but takes 5 in game days and costs a LOT of gold up front
  • Dragons, both metallic and not, are respected and often don't quarrel with dragonborn. In fact, if dragonborn share the same colour as the dragon they see each other as friendly and said dragon won't be aggressive to a dragonborn and his/her party unless provoked. A dragon is still a dragon though, so without help they're a tough opponent

So is Dragonsteel Half-Plate or Dragonsteel Studded Leather an available option?
BTW the max AC possible is now raised from 27 -> 29. Without any other magic items. With things like gauntlets of protection and whatnot it's 30 -> 32.
Yes, I theorycraft builds. It's kind of a memorized thing. +3 Plate, +3 Shield, Fighter w/ +1 AC specialty, 2 Prot Gauntlets, 1 Prot cloak
So I can start off with Dragonsteel daggers?
I like your look for dragonborns better than the norm.
so will all 10 players be playing? just a question since i haven't played with this many people before

No to studded as it's leather based. Like I said its heavy armour it's normally used for. Medium armours using DS (we'll call for short) would only get a +2 mod compared to regular armour and are subject to a waiting period if not for a dragonborn user, and studded leather wouldn't get any real being it's as only the studs are DS. Being mainly leather that's where the damage protection is

Not right away, but you can buy + use them at LV 1. They're relatively cheap and low damage (d4+5 for a max of 9) compared to some of the bigger DS weapons. EG a d12 would swing for a max of 18. Too powerful for LV 1 encounters

That depends on player availability. First 8 to arrive to the game get in no problem, the other two can wait in the room as spectators, without actually contributing
