Part One - Early Childhood Torvald is the only child of Brogan Ironhand & Sarna Stoutmantle. Dwarves are not romantics. The vast majority of marriages are arranged by clan elders. In this case, the union was simply good business. A uniting of two minor industrial based clans. While Torvald's parents did not love each other, they did ensure their child would be properly raised. That duty would ultimately fall upon great uncle, Dwarkin Ironhand. In his youth, Dwarkin was a fierce warrior. A slayer of Orcs. Cleaver of goblins. A paragon of the hold... for a time. Unfortunately, years of constant battle slowly left him crippled. Unable to fight or work Dwarkin slowly retired from public life. Relegated to the venerable honor of raising his kin's children. And so it was that Brogan & Sarna left Torvald with Dwarkin after only two short years together. For Dwarkin, Torvald was a young spirited child. Displaying a good natured but stubbornly independent heart. A reminder of his forgotten youth. To Torvald, "Old Uncle" Dwarkin was the whole world. His teachings; an impartation of sage dwarven wisdom. His stories of adventure & battle; something to jealously covet. A gateway to a much larger world outside... beyond hearth and home. In time the strong bonds of parental love grew between great uncle and nephew. At age ten, Torvald began formal schooling. Eight hours everyday he learned all the skills a young dwarf needed. How to read and write. Math and arithmetic. History of clan, stronghold, and the dwarven race. Followed by trade work and crafting. In each of these Dwarkin was a keen mentor. Torvald quickly became an apt pupil. Showing above average intelligence and wisdom. Torvald's education would continue until his 25th year...
