Hey, I was thinking about trying out a new rule and was wondering if any of you ever tried something similar so that I might have an idea of what to look out for or maybe even why and how it's freaking stupid ;P So I was going to have my players roll 3-5 hit rolls right before combat. Just the hit rolls. And they are gonna be secret so only known to me and the player not the other players. Damage rolls, saves, etc are gonna be rolled as usual. Also the monsters (i.e me) are gonna roll on the spot as usual. What I'm hoping this will do is introduce a little more tactic and also allow players to poker with each others hits, so as to allow a player to prepare a situation with one of his rolls so another player can capitalize on it but not knowing if player B still has a hit left. Also this would allow for hits like surprise attacks or other unusual or prepared tactics to pretty much always hit, as I sometimes feel that some actions should not miss, or at least not as often as they sometimes do, and even if I give them a +4 off-rule-book sometimes things happen. I do think those "funny misses" introduce a measure of RP craziness and fun but I'd like to minimize the amount this happens. But the first reason is obviously for me the bigger deal. Any thoughts, or has anyone tried this and found it to be good/bad or am I missing something obvious that would make this suck butts? There are probably also games out there that use some kind of hit rules like this but I'm not aware of them, so if you guys have played them I'd be very happy to hear your thoughts on those systems. Regards Me
