When I change my grid to 1 meter per unit square, the second aura on any given token still works in 5 foot squares. I can have both auras at 5 meters and the first will extend 5 squares from the character, while the second extends only 1 square. verified behavior by trying numbers between 1 and 5, which makes the second aura some fraction of a square in radius.
