Date: 23rd Reaping, 609 CY Attendance: Alena, Cat, Wulrakas. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Recap: Waking the following morning, Alena discovers the note left under her door. Clearly it isn't intended for her, as it relates to Clifton Oates' death. She gives it to Wulrakas as soon as he awakens, and the contents of the letter discuss an evil darkness that exuded from Clifton's corpse once he was killed. Virgil grieves in the meantime, refusing to get up from bed and opting to instead chug a bottle of liquor by himself. Downstairs, the trio (Alena, Cat, and Woolie) eat breakfast. The Captain of the vessel they're to board the following day joins them and discusses some more arrangements. He also tells them that Cat, Woolie (even though he wasn't there) and Virgil in particular are wanted for questioning in regards to the deaths the day prior. After that, Cat decides to pick up his custom bongos. Once outside, they see that a one-day festival is in progress. The celebrations are for Lowtide, a day of remembrance and gratitude for the thwarting of the Savage Tide and the disappearance of the Isles of Woe. Citizens wear masks of serpentine creatures (dinosaurs) unfamiliar to the group. After a while Cat returns to the store, only to find that it's closed. The owner is being harassed inside. Some threats about eating her and her infant son are vocalized, which is enough for the party to bust down the door. A fight ensues, culminating in the hooded perpetrator taking the shop owner hostage. If anyone so much as moves, he proclaims, the woman will die. Cat, who has him surrounded by animated objects, stealthily attacks; a bookcase crushes the man beneath its weight, freeing the woman from his grasp. Alena finishes him off by beating him down through the bookcase. When the man dies, his form becomes significantly larger and his skin takes on a bluish hue. Cat recognizes it as a form belonging to an Oni. Suddenly guards can be seen en route to the shop; the owner, knowing that the group are fugitives wanted for questioning, leads them to a small clearing between several homes.
