Is it common to be afraid of GMing?

I have GMed a few times, the first time felt rocky, second time was ok, but after that I didn't do it for a long time, mostly because I couldn't get my friends together. To occupy my time I tried to make new campaigns but I always got stuck with inspiration and how I should go about making a map. A few months ago i tried to get a game together, I thought I was organised but I wasn't and as a result I had to improvise everything down to fudging rolls, after little more than an hour I was sweating and gave them an excuse as to why I had to end it early. Ever since then I've been using roll in an attempt to get back into GMing but when I'm making a campaign I freeze up, I have a basic idea but I can't put it into detail, I know how to use the map tools but I don't know how. I also have this fear of players calling me out on faulty logic, most of which is related to level design. Is any of this a common thing?
Sounds like you just need more practice. If you are interested, I can Pro you a little bit if you have some free time during the week. I can't take you on as a player, but as a understudy on any of my numerous campaigns. Let me know your time zone, availability, and if you are interested!

Depends on the individual and the group. If you're hanging out with a bunch of your buddies then you probably won't feel quite as much pressure. If you're GM'ing for folks you've never met, or are anxious to impress, etc then yeah... you'll feel some pressure. This is the case even for veteran GM's. Even with a group of close friends, it can be stressful if you're framing it in the context of showing them you can run a tight, well-structured game. It's naturally easier to say than to do, but I try to remind myself that it's just my buddies... they won't care or judge if I make a few mistakes here and there. I also embrase the idea that (at least in D&D and most table tops I know), the rules are "Guidelines" to be used or thrown out as appropriate. As long as your group is enjoying themselves, who cares how technically accurate or feature-heavy the game is?
Hey Grim G. ! You might try checking out some of our YouTube content . Our Games Master Adam has a series where he goes over how to GM (or MC in this case). This thread is actually off-topic for our forums. We ask that post be about Roll20 specific use questions. You might try asking your question over at http://www.reddit.com/r/rpg as well.
