More lore, woo! Got the help from the forums to make this one actually. The Monarchs When the world was first created, the gods Macha, Tethys, and Grapha emerged from the scene and the world was covered in fire and chaos. Later, Itix and Lir would appear on the scene and slowly balance the world out, but chaos was still very prominent in the young world. Before the gods appeared, beings of elemental power controlled the forces of the world. These powerful beings are called the Monarchs. The first and oldest of the monarchs is Thestalos , the Fire Monarch. Thestalos was a very aggressive and arrogant monarch considering he was the one that brought forth Macha by his rampage on the primordial world. Later when Itix and Lir appeared, three more monarchs emerged: Granmarg the Earth Monarch, Mobius the Water Monarch, and Raiza the Storm/Wind Monarch. Though Itix and Lir were in constant battle even at their birth, the monarchs did not fight among each other until Macha in a quest for more chaos and power pitted the monarchs against each other. To Macha’s dismay however, this ended up creating a more balanced world that formed the oceans and the lands we know today. When Nuadha and Revlis arrived to the scene, in their efforts to bring balance to the world they confined the elemental monarchs to rule in their own realm without bringing chaos to the world. From this decree, Nuadha created the elemental plane. This however didn’t stop the monarchs from raging war with each other and for years they fought amongst themselves but neither were able to successfully kill one another in the elemental plane. In time, the monarchs were nearly forgotten until a conflict raged on between a band of humans in Dramora called the Fire Fists and the forest elves of Eranden in Dante that brought the mistake of their life time. When the war seemed helpless with the Fire Fists and their use of fire magics to combat the forest elves, they called upon their leader to resort to a final desperate measure to assure victory. Through their practices of using fire as a means of combat, Kirin, the leader of the Fire Fists decided to call upon the ruler and dictator of fire in the world and set up a portal. When the wood elves reached their final city, Kirin’s men stalled for time until Kirin could summon a portal and call upon the help of the Thestalos the Fire Monarch. When a portal from the elemental plane was open, Thestalos hailed the summoner and thanked him. That was their biggest mistake. Immediately after Thestalos was summoned, he used his fire to burn not only the city, but the lands around him destroying both the Fire Fists and the attacking army of the elves. With his power, it has been said Devil’s Mountain was created on the spot by him and still stands today. This portal gave opening for the other monarchs to creep into the world. Mobius entered through the portal and immediately created Lake Ellin to combat the fire lord. Granmarg soon followed and finally Raiza crept through the opening to the mortal world. Their battle destroyed the lands around them but it didn’t take long for Nuadha to appear and defeat the monarchs with the help of the other gods. This battle became known as the Elemental Sundering. When the monarchs were defeated, Nuadha decided not to send them back to the elemental plane but to keep them locked away inside the world itself so Nuadha can personally oversee their actions if they were to be called upon again. Today it’s said that Raiza wanders the skies above the oceans which is the reason why the Traveling Storm exists. Many believe Thestalos was locked away under the Obsidian Crown and kept dormant but he now wanders the Scorching Planes, a whole world created for him in fear he would once rise to power. Mobius would be bounded below the sea he created that borders Dante and Dramora in Lake Ellin. Granmarg would be kept away below the sands of Emor desert forever trapped and confined. As for the war itself, with the Fire Fists gone, the forest elves of Eranden paid a heavy price and first hand witnessed the full might of both the gods and the monarchs. Today, they are widely known to be the most powerful shamans in the world since they’re more attuned to the elements and the gods from the Elemental Sundering. The monarchs have been dormant ever since then and remain in their confines, sleeping time away…
