NPC speaking through type?

Have any of you GM/DM done all the NPC talking & dialog through type? Or do you find it easier to do it the old fashioned way and just talk to the players through skype?
Voice for me, some of the conversations may take up to much time if I tried to type it.
I have done text conversations for NPCs but only if I already have the conversation typed out in advance and can cut and past it over... which is almost never. Occasionally I will think up some, in my opinion, particularly good dialogue and have it handy, if it fits, to past it over, but even then I usually just say it, as usually what I have written the players have skewed slightly so reading it verbatim doesn't make sense and parts of it must be improved. I am simply not a fast enough typer to do all entire conversation off the cuff in text, unless I absolutely have to, without feeling like I am making the players wait for me to finish and really killing the games speed.

I don't use the chat window myself, but my players will use it for random(out of ear shot) banter between themselves. It allows them to roleplay without derailing me from acting out an NPC.
Our GM might use the chatbox for NPC conversations if there are issues with everyone hearing on tokbox. It's happened often, actually.
Text for me. What I usually see is that it helps to keep ourselves more in character --and the GM more "in non-player character" as well. Of course, not everybody sees it in the same way, but as long both voice and text are going to be supported, it's perfectly fine.
My group uses voice for "in game/in character" and text chat for side jokes, unrelated references and OOC remarks.
