Clearing Chat History

Is it possible to clear the chat history to start a session nice and clean?
I'd like to support this suggestion.
or even just minimize it to a hyperlink like Skype does "view older text"
I would also like this.
OTOH, while I'd like this "clearing chat history" as well, I'd be cautious with it: if it is implemented, it could spoil and break the campaign chat log for those that want to keep it.
Adding my support for this suggestion.
The best compromise is probably minimize/collapse old chat on entering a session. You could opt to expand it or leave it collapsed. Best of both worlds.
I also support erasing the chat archive
Hm. I like the idea of being able to archive your chat sessions by date. Maybe even name them for organization (ex: "Session 1" or "The one where Bob got killed by the snake"). That might make it easier to sort through all the things people typed and did rather than one gargantuan list. I have no idea how hard a thing that would be to implement, though.
I'm going to shift this over to the suggestion forum, since it's currently not possible, but there seems to be more than a few "wants" in here. Remember to upvote and lend your suggestions folks!
How about using a simple archive time stamp that the GM sets? It would not permanently delete the chat log, rather make it so that only GMs can read entries older than that archive time stamp. This would effectively clear the chat log for players yet keep the entire log in place.
I like to see this implemented.
or even just minimize it to a hyperlink like Skype does "view older text" What about a tree view of play sessions? Every time someone logs in to an empty campagin (aka, no one else is logged in) and some amount of time has passed, a new tree to the log could be time stamped and added. Maybe even prompt the GM for a name to the chat log for orginization? This would make a search rather needed in the chat log however, to be able to find play sessions.
We got massive lag last night because our chat log was so long. Part of the reason being we had multiple bad guys (over 15) having to roll 3 attack rolls, and that we play high combat for location and weapon damage. So all these rolls were clogging up the log, aside from the normal banter, rolls for saves, percentile, etc... thank god for Macros! When we reset the board, by activating an older VTT we had in Google+ Hangouts, then pressing the ROLL20 app again, the chat was cleared, and the lag went away instantly. I would love an in game archive/reset the chat log button, without the fear of losing the whole board, if say our internet connections suddenly decided to wonk out... then our reset trick would not work.
Yes - a very large chatlog really slows things down, I'd love to see a way to remove it (or at the very least archive it, so it's removed from the game, although downloadable via some link mechanism). Really the game shouldn't try and load the entire chat history every time you open it...but that's something I already suggested in the past. -- Pete.
Adding my support for some method to export/archive old chat logs and clear out the current.
I would also like a possibility to manage chat logs (clearing whole or parts of it, archiving). +1
I support this, and would also like to be able to remove specific chat entries. (/roll 1000d20's, anyone?)
Related, I would really like the ability to download the chat logs in a useful format. Currently, chat archive is a bizarre un-selectable view that takes forever to load. Thanks!

I figured out a couple workarounds for the chat log. Clearing: The GM can copy the campaign and if he deselects the chat log it effectively clears the log. Archiving: Go to the chat log, right click, click save as, save the type as a Webpage, Complete. Then you can open that up and copy it normally. - Gauss
Or maybe just deleteing a few entrys when people make mistakes like typing 1297895d3242...?
On a related note... trying to view the chat log at this point freezes my browser. I assume because it is so long. (It didn't help when my players realized that - at least at the time - there was no character limit on display names and started putting entire blocks of quoted text in there...) So yeah, put me down for being able to clear it... and possibly also break an existing log into chunks. (But seriously, before I threatened banning one of my players was using the entire text from the Wikipedia article on antidisestablishmentarianism as their display name...)
clearing on the GM side sounds fine, and would clear up some loading issues.  BUT some players need the memory refresh that the log gives so an Archive OR some way to copy and paste to PrivateMessage so players can keep it wherever they want.  :)
I would definitely like the ability to clear log entries. Ideally, by specific entries.

Radek, have you filed a bug report? If not could you do so so we can help? :) - Gauss
I was testing some dice rolls and did a /r 5d6r<10. It lagged everything and tons of dice were rolled. The chat was filled and the page itself became very very slow. We had to remake the campaign. Fortunately, we were just testing, no real deal. The problem is that even reloading didn't help. The chat became cluttered with all the dice, and there was no way to clear it.

Alberto, you rolled 999 dice before it declared the roll over. This is completely expected and normal behavior. You asked it to reroll anything less than a 10 (which is everything since you were rolling d6's) and since it just kept rerolling it stopped at 999. If you want to clear the chat history using current methods, copy the campaign and uncheck the chat log box. The chat log will not be brought into the copy. - Gauss

Alberto, you actually stumbled onto a bug. The bug isnt the dice roll, it is what the chat window does regarding the slowdown. I am reporting it.  - Gauss
I support this suggestion.
Yep this is required.

+1...I'd like an option to export the log to a .txt file, then clear it.  I've had several open chats that were meant for GM eyes only, and the best solution I could find was to spam the chat with meaningless dice rolls, hiding the info where I hope other players won't look.

+1, I don't need any chat history, would love to clean it out every now and then if that saves space.
+1...I like the idea of a log creation.
+1, especially if we can get a "save chatlog to .txt" or something
+1  We need to be able to clear chat logs and save chats to an archive file
and how do i get this junk out of my inbox? I only get 10 spaces and its always full of replies to crap in the bulletin thread group. I left the group and am still getting spammed so i cant even check to see if anybody has replied to important threads i have posted in.
