1st D&D

So has anyone ever played 1st edition dnd table top. ive only recently been into the genre and i was wondering what if any edition of dnd would be easiest to dm with the least amount of things on the table ie. map markers. I am also curious if anyone still plays dnd 1e online here so that maybe i could give it a try.
There are postings for 1E games from time to time here, so people definitely are playing it.  Here's a link to a game I found through the LFG search:   Elrukan adventures. As far as easiest to learn D&D versions, I'd go with either the Basic set  of BD&D (that you can later expand with the Expert set) or my favorite Swords and Wizardry, which is a cleaned up restatement or retro-clone of OD&D.  Swords and Wizardry has a  free "Core" version  and a  reasonably priced "Complete" version.   You don't miss a whole lot with the Core rules as opposed to the Complete version - some of my players are quite happy with the free version in the Complete campaign I run. There's also quite a few versions of D&D out there, most of which have free retro-clones available if you poke around and look.

another easy one to learn is  Basic Fantasy Role Playing Game . It is free also.  The  Basic Fantasy Role-Playing Game  is a rules-light game system modeled on the classic RPG rules of the early 1980's. Though based loosely on the d20 SRD v3.5, Basic Fantasy RPG has been written largely from scratch to replicate the look, feel, and mechanics of the early RPG game systems. It is suitable for those who are fans of "old-school" game mechanics.
I'm more into the puzzles and mystery solving and story than combat so maybe I can take a look into that
