Ruling Proposal 1: Changelings

Ok, I though we ( the GMs ) may want to have mechanism to discuss how to rule specific situations that are either poorly contemplated or lacking in 5e. We could start making "Ruling Proposal" posts to discuss things and then we could either take a vote or Sonic could tyrannically make the decision. Starting with the changeling: In 5e, RAW for the changeling's ability in the Eberron unearth arcana are: " Shapechanger . As an action, you can polymorph into any humanoid of your size that you have seen, or back into your true form. However, your equipment does not change with you. If you die, you revert to your natural appearance." "... any humanoid you have seen" is OP as **** and I don't wanna be that guy so I'd propose adding a bit more complexity: "... any humanoid you have seen in the last minute 5 minutes , back to your true form or into one of of your memorized Alias . Alias are forms that you have studied and committed to memory in order be able to revert to them at any time. You have a maximum number of alias of 1 + your INT modifier (minimum 1 for negative modifiers) and you must keep track of them in your character sheet. You can chose to replace one of your alias with the form your are currently using but that requires you to spend 3 days in that form  continuously in order to commit it's details to memory." Son what do you guys think of my changeling? I'm obviously a bit bias since I just started playing one.
Its not a huge deal being able to duplicate someone from memory what not. Its probably mean't to be like that and its not as big of as deal as one think since you still would most likely need to make a deception check but with advantage and if you fail, they know who you are. Its no different than having a disguise kit on hand and looking like a guard really. I wouldn't worry about it too much. It was most likely just a thing in old editions.

Honestly? As long as everyone doesn't start playing changelings, I think we're okay. It's more of an rp challenge thing.
At most times for a changeling. The shapechanging is purely aesthetic and has basically the same effect as a disguise kit. I dont see why it would need to be capped
I can arguably disguise better by casting disguise self and using  a disguise kit prior to that, have two sets of disguise. His clothes don't even change, when I cast disguise self, my clothes change.

Jacob H. said: I can arguably disguise better by casting disguise self and using  a disguise kit prior to that, have two sets of disguise. His clothes don't even change, when I cast disguise self, my clothes change. Yes, and my original idea for the character was using a warlock with the mask of many faces evocation (which allows him to cast disguise self at will any time he wants, so he would just revert while sleeping). As for the disguise kit, it serves a different purpose. Whit the kit you perfectly able to disguise yourself as a generic guard or just use not be recognized. Changelings and people with disguise self get to impersonate specific NPCs all together. Also, there is the argument that we need to be comparing this trait's usefulness to other racial traits, not to something that I would need specific class access to, " bad disguise self " would still be a lvl 1 spell and some races get access to those, but with use per day restrictions. With this rule I'm giving the changeling a " change into some1 you have seen in the last minute " cantrip , which is already an awesome cantrip. I think " bad disguise self " is just to good for cantrip status (even if it comes with a -1 to stats compared with other races). Anyway, I think I'm sticking to these rules, even if they are just self imposed. I invite any future changelings to consider them .
