You read it right. The target probably knows it got stabbed but has no idea by whom. This is assuming you can get behind cover again by the end of your movement, or never leave cover in the case of ranged attacks. The last line is misleading though as it mentions all enemies, but the first paragraph says this only works on a single target. Monster1: "Ouch something just bit me!" Monster2:"Ya, it was that guy hiding behind those crates over there."
