Character Sheet Macro

Hello, I'm still pretty new to Roll20, (only had my second session Sunday) and I've been playing around trying to make decent macros to help with the slow-down and clutter of having to open up the character sheet to roll from it. I like that I can drag and drop it into the macro bar, but from what I understand those go away after each session, and I haven't seen any command to do them in chat. In looking around, I've seen a bit about making macros (most of it over my head other than the super simple ones) and I was just curious if there was an effective way to essentially duplicate the macro that runs when you roll from a character sheet, but doing so as one of the programmable macros so I don't have to keep dragging and dropping, but I'll just be able to type the command in. I've looked around and haven't found this (maybe I missed it) answer still anywhere. Any help will of course be greatly appreciated. :) I just like how clean and simple the rolls from the sheet look and want to duplicate that until I'm comfortable enough to spice it up with flavor text kinds of things added. ...(sidenote) in the 5e character sheet, how am I supposed to adjust weapon attacks to only do additional damage? I've not seen a single way to do it to account for my taking on a new skill to allow it. Thank you!

Hi, ShinjiTakeyama . Welcome to Roll20. ShinjiTakeyama said: I like that I can drag and drop it into the macro bar Might you be referring to character sheet buttons? ShinjiTakeyama said: but from what I understand those go away after each session This sounds like a bug that will hopefully get fixed soon. Some sheets do have buttons that can be called from a macro. They're often listed on that sheet's wiki page. For example: (Actoba's) D&D 5e sheet and Kryx's Shaped sheet both have macros for some buttons.
Yes, the character sheet buttons being dropped into the macro bar is what I was referring to. It was very helpful being able to do that the last session. I think I actually read somewhere that the only things that stay in the macro bar are the custom ones, so maybe it isn't a bug if I only used drag and drop character sheet buttons in it? (EDIT: Strangely enough, they didn't show up just bringing the bar up, but they all showed up again after I added a custom one into the bar, so you're right, there's no bug here as far as I can tell...though how do I get them off now? XD) I tried reading through that wiki and following it to figure out the command for the buttons, but I got nowhere. I was in game after the party let out and I couldn't get anything to work lol. I believe we are using the Actoba's 5e sheet. Thank you for your reply (and the welcome!) :)

According to the devs, this is indeed a bug. ShinjiTakeyama said: I tried reading through that wiki and following it to figure out the command for the buttons, but I got nowhere. I was in game after the party let out and I couldn't get anything to work lol. I believe we are using the Actoba's 5e sheet. The sheet's Wiki page mentions how to call the buttons using its built-in ability macros here . Below is a list of all the roll buttons that can be used in your own macros. Details on how to use them are shown earlier on this page at the start of the Advanced usage section. Core Strength_Save, Dexterity_Save, Constitution_Save, Intelligence_Save, Wisdom_Save, Charisma_Save Initiative (your token must be selected for this to work and auto add the roll to the turn order) Use_HD_dX - where X = the hit dice to use (6, 8, 10, or 12) Death_Saving_Throw Skills SkillName_Check - where SkillName = the name of the skill (all one word, no spaces, first letters capitalised...like SleightOfHand for example) Custom_Skill_1, Custom_Skill_2, Custom_Skill_3, Custom_Skill_4 Basic_Strength_Check, Basic_Dexterity_Check, Basic_Constitution_Check, Basic_Intelligence_Check, Basic_Wisdom_Check, Basic_Charisma_Check Weapons MeleeAttackX, MeleeDamageX, RangedAttackX, RangedDamageX - All where X = the appropriate row number for the section between 1-6 It is also possible to make use of some of the macros built in to the roll buttons too and those are also listed below. For example, a character called Bob could use the Athletics check roll from the sheet by using the following code in a macro - %{Bob|Athletics_Check} or %{selected|Athletics_Check} if the token selected was associated with that character sheet Essentially, to call a sheet button [from the text chat], replace the foo in %{selected| foo } with one of the listed roll buttons .
Shinji, You should be able to copy the macro this way; 1. roll from the sheet 2. click into the chat window and then press the shift key and up arrow together. you should see the text of the macro show up in the chat window. Cut and paste that text into a new macro in your settings tab. I'm not sure what you mean about 'only additional damage'
Huh, I had seen all of that and even tried putting it in directly from the wiki altering what I thought I needed to test...but it wasn't working before. I think I figured it out. It's a stupid mistake on my part, but I forgot the umlauts when I was trying to input my name so it must not have recognized it based on that. I'm a dope. XD I'll just have to keep fiddling around with this, but thank you for guiding me through until I could figure out my own foolishness lol.

Under the weapon section in the 5e Character Sheet we're using it says to only put the base damage without any bonuses so I assumed it would only allow a basic 1d6, 1d8, etc. The damage bonus from stats is automatically added so I wasn't sure how I was supposed to make sure that these rolls accounted for a recently acquired skill, but it seems (after some rolls to verify) that I could just put 1d6+2 in the damage field, even though it seems to discourage doing that for whatever reasons. Thank you for the tip on copying the macros! That should help with the spells I just learned. :)

I should not talk because I have a lot of macros on the bar and on my token (they seem to stick around for me) but I wanted to mention that the character sheet can be popped out of the main game window to reduce viewing space during play. It can also be minimized in the main game window by double clicking the top bar of the character sheet window. Then double click to maximize it. You can do this with the turn order window as well. Another unknown shortcut is to shift double click on your token to bring up the character sheet. good luck to you and your team in finding the viewing practices which work for you. H

For Actoba's 5e sheet they are here and for Kryx's 5e Shaped sheet you would find it here.

H lol, I finally figured that out last night while I was tinkering around, purely by accident I double clicked the thing when I was trying to move it aside a little and voila. XD Thank you. :) @EdS, well that's certainly more straight forward than I thought it would be lol. Do you mind my asking if doing it the way I was trying could potentially break something? I mean, I tested it several times and it seemed to work just fine, and there's also the potential that I have a melee item that wouldn't get the same bonus (in this instance) because dueling only applies to weapons used with one hand, so if I were to (for RP purposes) use two hands, the bonus wouldn't apply, so in that way it seems like it'd be easier to just apply it to specific weapons rather than to all melee/ranged attacks.

No it would't break anything, but you would have to remember to add it each time you picked up a new one handed weapon. The example I showed was the Archery style, so it works with all ranged weapons, your situation is a bit more specific. Mostly do what ever works, as long as the DM and all the players are on the same page that is all that matters. Happy gaming
I have a similar question I was hoping someone could answer. On the Savage Worlds Character Sheet, there is a roll button for each skill. When I hover over the shooting skill roll icon, it says "@{tShootingRoll}". I tried to paste this into the Abilities section with "Show as Token Action" checked so I could have a button on the token that allows me to roll Shooting. This did not work however. Where can I find the macro to copy and paste in to get a token macro button that does a shooting roll? I would like to tweak the macro just a bit with the ?{ShootingSkillMod|0} so it prompts me to add skill modifier before roll is completed. Thanks!

Try using %{tShootingRoll} instead in your Ability macro. H
Thanks. I sort of got it working, but for some reason it doesn't always select the right shooting die level (tends to go with 1d4 not 1d6 or 1d8 when the player has a higher shooting skill). I'll keep fiddling. Thanks!
