No Internet Explorer Support

Hi Though the software looked interesting, I can't use it because I'm using Internet Explorer. Roll20 says IE software is out of date, and that I should change to Chrome or Firefox. I will not do this, (IE is up to date), plus dictating changing my browser software may be illegal in Europe, as Microsoft found out. Any chance this is going to be opened up to other browser software? Vid looks good, but pointless to those of us who don't use the browsers dictated. Hoping you can open up the software to all of us soon Paul H
Hi Or at least, please amend the error message when trying to run it with other browsers, to: "The software currently only runs on these browsers, but we're still working to open it up to others. Watch this Space"! Or somesuch. Really looking forward to this
"We have detected that you are using Internet Explorer. Unfortunately, Roll20's advanced features don't play nicely with Internet Explorer. Please choose one of the following options to continue: " That's the message you'd get if you loaded up Internet Explorer. Internet Explorer does not fully support HTML5 in a way that allows the many advanced, bleeding edge features that Roll20 requires to run. You'll notice that if you tried to run any similar non-Flash website that you'd run into the same problems. That said, you can still use Internet Explorer if you install the "Chrome Frame" which enables HTML5's advanced features.
Here is a nice site to see just how bad IE's support for new web standards is: <a href="http://caniuse.com/#search=WebGL" rel="nofollow">http://caniuse.com/#search=WebGL</a> Note that FireFox has had WebGL support since version 12, Chrome since version 20, Safari since version 5.1, Opera since version 12. IE still has no WebGL support and may not even support it in IE10 coming with Windows 8. This is just one of many web standards that have come out in the last few years that IE is far behind on support for. We'd love to support as many browsers as we can but if IE doesn't support the technology there isn't much we can do.
Just to confirm, IE8 and IE9 both work just fine with Roll20 as long as you have the Chrome Frame installed.
Note that FireFox has had WebGL support since version 12, Chrome since version 20, Safari since version 5.1, Opera since version 12. IE still has no WebGL support and may not even support it in IE10 coming with Windows 8 With as much as Microsoft hates OpenGL, it should be no surprise that they are unwilling to support it in their browser. And on the Chrome Frame thing, why not just install Google Chrome?
^ Some people, like OP, seem to just be masochists
As Mr G is saying, and according to my tests, Roll20 runs perfectly OK under IE9 with Chrome Frame.
I find it odd that the OP mentions "dictating" as a possible illegal action. Baffling, actually. IE doesn't support the features that the site needs. End of story. No dictation involved. If you want to use the site, then you'll have to use software that can run the code specific to the site. Otherwise...your loss. I have wasted countless hours of my life "supporting" IE and making my web applications work with it. If I could bill Microsoft for those hours I would. Their lack of ability to conform to standards. Their unwillingness to support W3C standards. Their lackluster attitude for the demands of the users...and mostly...the lack of support for multiple versions of IE on a single OS drive me absolutely nuts.
Plus, IE just plain sucks. I havent used it since I was a naive kid.
