Background Info The campaign will begin play in the city of Ravenskeep. This ancient home of the elves that left their forest brethren sits at the edge of a an enormous crater which took out half the city when it was made by a meteor that fell centuries ago. A few decades prior to the campaign start, Ravenskeep owed fealty to the ruler of the region, simply known as "The Overlord". Once he was deposed, the city became an independent city state but has been on the decline ever since. The ruling elvish class has become insular and decadent, rarely leaving their keep teetering on the edge of the crater's cliff. The population of elves have also been dwindling, while humans, dwarves, halflings, and even gnomes have been on a slow rise. The surrounding countryside, the Southern Lowlands, is made of small vineyards and farms, providing some of the only real trade from Ravenskeep, especially known for their wines. To the north is the Overlord's Wood, traditional home of the elvish ancestors which had become an illegal hunting area during the Overlord's reign. It is now common to hunt and forage along it's southern border, along with a very limited lumber trade, all though people are just now beginning to explore the Wood again. The west lays the Crater - once a thriving forest - a land no elf or man visits, now overgrown by a thick, strangling rain forest with many rumors of strange beasts roaming it's interior. I'll have more background info by game time, although it won't be too fleshed out to leave room for us to create details in gameplay. Additional Classes I'm still working out the details but, in addition to the Core book classes (Cleric, Thief, Warrior, Wizard, Dwarf, Elf, Halfling) you can choose from the classes in the Crawl! fanzine. This includes Paladin, Ranger, Gnome, and some new options for Dwarves, Elves, and Halflings. Those are all subject to change as I review them and figure out which ones make sense. Funnel Characters and Beyond We'll just create 0-level characters at the beginning of the session with a script I wrote to generate them quickly (similar to the one we used before in the DCC Crawling Under A Broken Moon campaign). After we move into the level 1+ game, we'll just start characters at the lowest level of the rest of the party with the minimal XP for that level instead of using more 0's like we've done before.
