How do I make maps?

Well, I know -how-. Size the page, add pictures from the internet...But I find it's rather difficult to actually make a good map, mainly outdoors or a map of a city. Was wondering if I could have any help, maybe see some examples, or a site with a good map images?

It depends how much time you want to invest on your maps. If you want to go the all way, you'll find lots of interesting ideas here (there are some outstanding mappers explaining their workflow there): <a href="http://www.cartographersguild.com/forum.php" rel="nofollow">http://www.cartographersguild.com/forum.php</a> For exemple, Devinnight workflow on Crypt of the Mad Monk <a href="http://www.cartographersguild.com/showthread.php?4898-Crypt-of-the-Mad-Monk" rel="nofollow">http://www.cartographersguild.com/showthread.php?4898-Crypt-of-the-Mad-Monk</a> If you would prefer a sketchy way to work, I have an explanation of a way I do it here: <a href="http://toybox-sw.blogspot.be/2012/05/maptool-sketches.html" rel="nofollow">http://toybox-sw.blogspot.be/2012/05/maptool-sketches.html</a> But I am afraid that (except using someone else maps) there is no real shortcut. The quality of your maps shall depend on the time you spend on them.

Not knowing how much detail you need and whether you want Playing Maps (ones you can place character tokens on) or large area maps. I can tell you that I am hoping to have some map tiles available for free on the Market Place. The Map example was made with my tiles in about 10 minutes. It is shown at 40% magnification. All the tiles are 4 squares by 4 squares and snap into the Roll20 grid perfectly without resizing.
I know this is a little more than what you're asking for, but I have recently gotten a little carried away with my own map making. To design a town, I went to inkwellideas.com and had it generate a random town for me, and it came up with this: I took that and tossed it down as a 2D flat surface in GoogleSketchup. I then copy-and-pasted a bunch of different sized houses everywhere (I was able to quickly design different sized houses in about 20 min per house), laid out the paths/roads, deleted the original picture I was working from and put down a new square for the ground and filled it in with grass texture, and now I can produce accurate eagle eye maps of anywhere in the town, like this: or even scenic stylized shots like this:
