Next please tell me the PLAYER NAME (Your Roll20 Name), and your CHARACTER NAME. If you have not named your character yet, make up a char name now.

Next please tell me the ANIMAL COMPANION YOU WOULD WANT if you could have a familiar, pet, animal ally, or mount, in the game. Note that you do not automatically get this animal friend, but your choice here may become part of the story later in the game. Popular choices for examples are:

  • War Dog, or Wolf
  • Pseudodragon, or Bat
  • Homonculus, or Gremlin
  • Falcon, Hawk, Raven, Owl, or other bird
  • Cat, Ferret, or Weasel
  • Mouse, or Rat
  • Toad, Frog, Lizard or Snake
  • Bear
  • Horse
  • Giant Eagle or other flying animal you can ride
  • Unicorn
  • Make up something not listed here.
  • None, it is ok to say "None" if you are not interested.

So, are there any ability score adjustments to these new races?

Yes, there can be ability adjustments per AD&D 2E Book Of Humanoids and-or Player's Option book. (The Player's Option version is in the PDF that has 26 books.)

SEE LINK: http://purpleworm.org/rules/SP/DD02905.htm

If it happens to be a species that is NOT in the book then ask the DM (Kenku, or Oni).

Also, you can take the species adjustment (racial adjustment), or not take it & stick with your roll. Your choice.

Also, if the adjustment would give you some kind of unusual score like 19 or 20, then it is probably Okay but would be subject to DM approval on a case-by-case basis.
I don't know, never played alternative races personally.. it's not so easy being some of these in a human city .. so I stayed away from them generally speaking.

Here is the Adjustments link,
http://purpleworm.org/rules/SP/DD02905.htm

Note some of those species are allowed, some are not allowed for PC's (per the listing in the 1st post above). As I mentioned there are some different species on my list that aren't in the book, so if you see one that you want, ask me about it directly.

I understand if you don't want to play them. But if you already played Dwarf and Elf and Human and Halfling and Gnome a bunch of times, maybe you want to try something new! It is a magical world. There are elf cities, human cities, and much more. Few PC's will be those species, but sometimes one will come along.
I'm thinking Sanvar, the Lizard Man Barbarian. Outcast by his tribe in the northern swamps. He's always wanted a falcon.

That's a worthy starting description Ryan. I like it. Sounds like he would be a good fighter, particularly in a water situation (underwater or just swamp and mud).

If you have any questions about Lizardman or Barbarian, just ask --- or find whatever resources and references you want in the books, and tell us about it. I expect there will be some bits about Lizardmen in either Book of Humanoids (if you have it), or Player's Option: Skills book which is in the 26 books PDF. Note that you can be a typical lizardman, or maybe you are the most different lizardman that ever came out of the swamp. It's up to you. You don't have to follow every lizard trope just because the book mentions it. Just read the resources and describe your guy as you wish.

Barbarian will be either: Kit from Book of Humanoids, or Kit from Complete Fighter's Book, probably. If that doesn't work we can refer to AD&D 1st Edition Unearthed Arcana for a different barbarian, and modify it for our game.

Just expect any unusual mechanical bonuses (like perhaps from a Barbarian Kit) would be subject to DM approval, on a case-by-case basis, particularly combat mechanics and bonuses (anything combat like +1 When Using His Father's Battle Axe would be subject to DM review). You can freely adopt anything like free NWP's that come with Barbarian Kit, any non-combat minor advantages, or other descriptive aspects of barbarian, these things don't require approval and you just write it on your character sheet and tell us about it.

Falcon animal companion -- make this a noted goal of yours (Be sure to write it on character sheet & mention it in the gameplay first session). You will NOT start with a trained falcon in your inventory, but have the possibility to obtain your first falcon & start to train it within the first few game sessions or adventures. This will help to make a starting feature of your character development. Falcon could become very useful for outdoor adventures.

Another DM Update to the Players:

I've moved a few of the newer Character Journals to different folders. If you're looking for your Character, check for Fuku Hime (Lex) and Andy's new Thief or his Gnome WIP, under the new folder "PC5 Characters 2017".  Vriska and Sizi have been moved to the XPC folder for Characters who died.

Stop by the game-session time any week and we will verbally tell the story of what happened, and you can step-out ways in which the golden fire bird of rebirth can still be an ally and friend to the party.

Lhiannen Shee Frog -- character sheet updated for Chris. Look on the Bio Tab for new details. She is an undead bard.
