Adding damage over time effects? And others

What happens if my rogue poisons an Orc with venom that lasts for 2d4 rounds? Could a system be implemented which tracks certain things like this and takes them into account? Also with other effects, like flanking, staggered, etc.
We don't currently have any plans to implement anything along those lines since we're trying to be system agnostic, and those are all very specific status effects, damage types, etc. to a certain game system.
This might be beyond the scope of the project (it looks amazing so far), but would it be possible to implement additional rules for certain modules (like poison damage over time). Or even just customizable effects that the DM could add for such events.
Right now the number one goal is to make this a virtual "table" that works for people. We want to make it feel effortlessly like pen and paper. When I'm at a table, damage over time doesn't automatically happen rather obviously. Is it something that might happen? I guess, but I wouldn't plan on it.
