Subplot: Illoa's Revenge

Subplot: Illoa's Revenge <<This isn't a recap, nor does it seem to fit anywhere else in our forums so I made a new topic for it. Move it somewhere else if there is a better place for it.>> Dramatis Personae Lord Hewgi Bollrim, Governor of the Imperial Province of Virithon Sir Drahnar Fenraenson the Cruel, Bollrim's bodyguard and killer of Illoa's husband Illoa of Whitehold, the Reluctant Warrior Turki “Torprairie,” Man of Many Skills Sharaska, Hunter (and Prey) of Manticores Alux Stormborn “the Scarred,” Priest of Storms Huddling around a table at the Rusty Spoke Tavern and Inn, four adventurers whisper in hushed tones. Illoa: “I don't think I need to tell you that this must remain absolutely secret if it is to succeed. If the Lords were to find out, we would be executed for treason.” “Sharaska, this is the first part of your payment. It is all I have right now, but I will get you the rest when you've put your blade through Bollrim's chest.” “Alux, I would ask for the storm god's blessing in this. Pray that he see us through, that justice be done.” “And Turki, for you it is the most dangerous part. Though I am not clever, I have heard the way lords and ladies speak in my time at my father's side. I have the words which will bait the trap. If it works, that repulsive lord will come to you, and you need only escort him out into the pasture to view the cattle herds, where he and his cruel bodyguard, Sir Drahnar, will meet death. These Wilds are a savage, brutal land after all.” Illoa hands a rolled up parchment to Turki, which reads: “My Lord Bollrim, Governor of Virithon, Greetings and salutations from the land of Udrus. Please forgive my presumption in addressing you by letter, rather than attending you personally at court. Events in Udrus move rapidly, and I dare not leave my post here for even a week. I write to inform you, governor, that the opportunities for gain here in Udrus abound. The herds of cattle grazing the plains increase daily. Trade in precious stones with the humanoids to the south fills the purses of the customs officers with duties. Already the Imperial Trading Company has brought in scores of men to scour the lands for riches. Why should we two not also partake in the riches of this place? If it please you, governor, I would propose a partnership. With my local knowledge and your influence in the Empire, together we could make gold by the chestful here in Udrus. Verily, there is not a day to waste. I bid you make haste to visit and see this land with your own eyes. I promise that presence of such a powerful and storied ruler as yourself will bring people out of the woodwork, people willing to pay for your leadership. Already I have found a potential buyer for your cattle, a large rancher here in Udro named Turki Torprairie. Seek him out when you arrive. I shall set out from Fort Boulderbreaker to join you and him in town soon after. For the Empire. Your humble servant, Lord Bill Iverson” <<20 GP bounty down payment given to Sharaska>> <<Unlike the recaps, this is a secret conspiracy and not general knowledge among adventurers in Udrus, so please play accordingly. Thanks!>>
Turki turns to Illoa: "I like this plan and it could work well. Tell me does your Lord Bollrim, know the Magistrate Aarons in the Capital City? <<Question for DM as well>> If he does we can name drop Aarons into the letter - say I am a former guard of his now in the area - that might help him trust me more for this action." "We should also decided on a place for the ambush and spread some coin to make sure its devoid of witnesses when we make this attempt" <<Still secret>>
"We could ambush Bollrim when he is travelling. If he is called to Fort Boulderbreaker, a well-placed attack in the middle of the wilderness could be feasible." Asks Illoa and Turki: "Are there any places between Udro and the fort that we could use to our advantage?" <<Still secret>>
"I've made inquires with the head of the local farmers, he has a shack we could rent that would serve well. It's in the cow pastures, and we could there during twilight. We could rent it for only a few silvers a week." "I've also received word from my network. Illoa, do you remember the letter I spotted when we first met Lord Bill? Apparently Lord Bollrim sent a letter to our favorite asshole advising him that you were a danger and should probably be detained. So it would be good to keep the two separated by some distance." "But this could be a boon. If I might suggest some tweaks to the letter to sweeten the deal:" My Lord Bollrim, Governor of Virithon, Greetings and salutations from the land of Udrus. Please forgive my presumption in addressing you by letter, rather than attending you personally at court. Events in Udrus move rapidly, and I dare not leave my post here for even a week. I would like to thank you for your warning regarding the dangerous Illoa. When she arrived, my agents saw to it that she fell immediately in debt here, and she has been working as an adventurer here ever since, a career which has a very short life expectancy.  While she had not perished yet, I have arranged for her base of operations to move Fort Boulder Breaker. I am keeping a close eye on her activities and making sure to send her on the most dangerous missions we have . She should soon die a hero's death, and be out of our hair. I have another motive in writing you, most honorable governor.  Their are opportunities abound for gain here in Udrus. A former guard of Magistrate Aarons, he has been working to establish Aarons' business interests in these new lands. Seek him out when you arrive. I shall set out from Fort Boulderbreaker to join you and him in town soon after. For the Empire. Your humble servant, Lord Bill Iverson "What do you think?"
Illoa nods. "This is good. I will pay the farmer for his shack. Let us act." <<-20 silver? If it is more, let me know.>>
Turki pauses for a moment, and then speaks. "We probably need some thought on how to dispose the body as well, since the farmer will probably not be happy to have a Lord of the Empire killed on his property. Perhaps we should rent a donkey and cart, and transport the body to the north and leave it on the road to Fort Boulder Breaker. Maybe with some letter to implicate our local Lord Bill. And perhaps for safety (mainly my own) I use a different name in the letter. I suggest the name Syrik Ikseliad." <<Still secret. Cart shouldn't be too much >>
<<A couple of months later>> Turki pulls Illoa apart from her celebrations with the most recent adventurers. "I know that we have lost many of comrades, but I have not forgotten the blood debt you owe Lord Bollrim. I believe the new Paladin would find your cause just. Do you still wish to go through with it?"
"Yes. If he has taken the bait, Bollrim's ship might arrive any time. It takes months to make the trip back and forth, and he would have spent time making all the arrangements. There is no telling when he might show up." <<Basically I think we just need to have a game where Turki and Illoa are present, and the two other folks are willing to play it out with us. I don't necessarily want to schedule a special session or anything, but maybe sometime in the next few weeks the right conditions will happen and then we will find "a ship anchored in the harbor," or something like that. Its up to Matt. Thanks for asking!>>
That sounds prefect Greg
<< Alright Greg just let me know the next day you can play >>
I'm going to try to make it one day this week, but I see that your schedule is no good. The following week is going to be tough for me. But the week after that (Feb 7-13) is promising.  It is kind of scary to finally see what happens and how Illoa's story ends. Its exciting to think about making a new goal for her though. TBH I was getting a little tired of Illoa from an RP perspective but having a new goal would make things fresh again.
You can always help Turki recover his toy horse, and then plot the distrcuction of Ikseliad. That's where my RP is directed these days.
