Enc's Encounter Maps: 100+ Free Maps

Edited 1448903138
Hello everyone. My name is Brooks (aka Enc around the internets) and in early 2014 I started playing on Roll20 as a GM for a pretty lengthy campaign. I eventually got frustrated not being able to find maps that did what I wanted, so I started making my own! Flash forward to present and I've created quite a few maps (about 115) including a few requests and world maps for both my setting and some for folks that have asked for a bit of help. I keep these hosted for free for anyone to use, and upload the newest ones I make after they launch in my campaign each week (usually I have a new map or three every other week). This week we added four encounter maps in a forest, complete with a breakable bridge with plank assets for a Roll20 table (the bridge map can be found here): https://falleron.wordpress.com/2015/11/23/encounte... Last month we delved into an eight level ruined watchtower (tiny gif below, full size maps found here: https://falleron.wordpress.com/2015/11/05/encounte... ) You can find all of the maps here: https://falleron.wordpress.com/about/ I also house our custom Pathfinder setting house rules (Falleron) on the same site, for anyone curious. I hope you guys can find some use for them! Let me know what you think of my maps or houserules below, or email me directly at BrooksPingston@gmail.com . Enjoy! -Enc (Brooks)

Just been through the full set to date and there are some simply awesome maps in there. Great work! I'll be sure to be using some of these in my game and as such you will gain the honour of having an NPC named after you! One cheeky thing... do you happen to have a non-burning map of Kingsbridge available at all?

Not at the moment, but let me look through my old files and see if I still have the psd for that one. There will be an entirely new map for Kingsbridge in the near future (post flames). -------------------------------------- NEW MAPS:11/30 -------------------------------------- Also, last night was my game night, and that means new maps! Three posts and 7 new maps are now available. First up, the treacherous Chester Ridge Ruins (Sample of the maze portion below): Find the full set of three maps for the exterior of the ruins here: https://falleron.wordpress.com/2015/11/30/encounte... The inside of the ruins are filled with ancient fire-based traps and deep pitfalls that plummet deep into the earth! Full set (x3) can be found here: https://falleron.wordpress.com/2015/11/30/encounter-map-x3-chester-ridge-ruins-interiors/ Finally, we have a boss encounter for this dungeon that has a rotatable floor for use with a rollable table! To make this work in roll20, I first made the “tame” map the background for the map on the map layer, then made a rollable table with every other form of the map. Once it was set up, I moved the rollable table “to back” to hide it, and once the battle started moved the tame layer to back and every round would randomize the table to determine what floor burn would be in effect. In the center of the platform I had a boss with high health that shot very powerful beams of fire in any two cardinal directions each round, making moving on an off the platforms essential for player survival. Find all the variations for this dungeon here: https://falleron.wordpress.com/2015/11/30/encounte...
You're awesome and should really consider producing content for the Marketplace !

I thought about this a lot, and I really don't want to put a paybar in front of the content I make. I'm not making these to sell, I'm making them for my own needs and then sharing them so that they don't go to waste afterwards.
God these maps are nice

One cheeky thing... do you happen to have a non-burning map of Kingsbridge available at all? I managed to track down the non-burning maps for Kingsbridge: https://falleron.wordpress.com/2014/07/01/encounte... There is a day and night one. They are really old (some of the first I made) and the text is rasterized so no other edits can be made there. But hopefully this will suit your needs!

You sir, are a legend, they'll do beautifully thank you :)
----------------------------- Update 12/7 ----------------------------- This week we return to civilization with three free maps of Eaton Village. First up are the village's aging fortifications: Find the full size here: https://falleron.wordpress.com/2015/12/07/encounte... Once you get past the mighty wall and gatehouse, the village itself is quite charming, with lovely homes, a noble's mannor, and some of the best cherry orchards you will ever see: Fun the full sizes here: https://falleron.wordpress.com/2015/12/07/encounte... This is not the last we will see of Eaton Village! Another handful of maps will release next week once my players clear the full content of this town, including a large church and it's basements and crypts. Let me know what you all think!

Great maps as always, already added them to my list of future areas for my players to explore!
You are a talented and generous individual. For those of us without extra funds to purchase art assets I want to thank you.
Hey all, there is something henky with the Orchard Map's file quality. I'll be updating it with a higher quality version this evening.
Thank you!!
Ok, updated the orchard map to get rid of the corruption in the file: https://falleron.wordpress.com/2015/12/07/encounter-maps-x2-eaton-village-and-orchards/

Ok, so last night was game night and that means new maps: ---------------------- Update 12\14 ---------------------- So here is the exterior of the Temple of Tamberlain. Last night the investigation of Eaton Village continued with the climax: the Temple of Tamberlain, the Allfather. This compassionate deity is revered around the world and such temples are common to train clerics in their duties of healing and offering guidance. However, here the party encountered Lamar, the Bandit Baron ravaging the village of Eaton, as he chained up the door to the temple with the parishioners inside. After a brief battle and a stroll around the gardens, the party entered the temple… Find the Full Sized Here: https://falleron.wordpress.com/2015/12/14/encount... Inside the Temple of Tamberlain the party found the remaining villagers slaughtered, over their corpses a Cleric of Morrigan loomed, having enthralled the villagers to attack the bandits and to attempt to break through the holy seals warding the lower levels of the Temple: The Hall of Trials. The party made quick work for the evil cleric and, with the blessing of a surviving priestess of the Allfather, entered the hall of trials. Find the Full Sized for both, along with notes on how to use them, here: https://falleron.wordpress.com/2015/12/14/encount... Next up: my party will be sailing to the frozen north to confont Draug, God of the Vengeful Dead. Northrend-flavor campaign, ho!

Not that i shamelessly snatch every map you put up (who... me???) but it appears that clicking either image goes to the full resolution version of the hall of trials rather than the Temple of Tamberlain for one and the hall for the other : /

**pretends not to care while quickly going and grabbing the image off the site** Sweet, just wanted to make sure you were aware :)
I appreciate it! :)
Thanks again for making these public. They're awesome! I do have a question though. Since you make some of them using perspective rather than a pure overhead view, is there a specific size ratio you use? The reason I ask is that I was playing around w/ your Chester Ridge Ruins Flame Arena map, and I couldn't find a grid size that matched up w/ all the squares on the map. If I fit my grid to match the squares on the center circle, the grid is off on the squares on the stairs, and vice-versa. Am I missing something? Thanks!
I rarely try to match the squares of the grid to the squares that occasionally end up on the tiles (I generally try to avoid small square patters for this reason). Most of my resolutions with these are 60x60 or higher (generally speaking, I have "large" size players so the narrowest corridor on a map is usually 2 squares wide). When lining things up in roll 20 I usually hold "alt" to get between-grid sizes for sizing the map on the background layer. Once I have it the size that works for the grid I want I then usually open up the main map settings and cut the map down to eliminate wasted squares until it is where I need it at.
At one of my player's requests, I am now posting some of the traps I make for my game on the site as well. Likely every Tuesday since he kept shouting "TRAP TUESDAY!" after one too many beers last game session: https://falleron.wordpress.com/about/
So my next map set is gonna a boat and some stops for it: I may be having too much fun making it. I spent the last hour screaming WHEEEE to this.
Just wanted to thank you for all of the beautiful work you've shared! I also spent some time looking through the content of your world, and I must say, your players are lucky to have you. :)
Just amazing maps, thanks very much for sharing, I will try in the future post one of my creations here too.

Thanks Pedro and Lex! :D ------------------------- UPDATES: 12/21 ------------------------- The party bought this steamship for a steal! What a bargain (something breaks), still you can't beat that price (engine explodes). Such savings! I'm planning on using this ship a lot in the future so I made some weather variations. Having a boat isn't worth much if you don't have somewhere to go. Like the treacherous Siren's Rock (both stormy and clear versions available): Or this random ice floe... complete with a hidden valley with santa's workshop! Ultimately, these are all distractions as the party is heading to Revalia, great city of the north! Also, santa's sleigh because you need one of those sometimes: Find full size of all of them here: https://falleron.wordpress.com/about/ And Happy Holidays!
This week's preview: Revalia
--------------------------- Update 12/28 --------------------------- This week we have about 11 new maps (5 city maps with day/night variations and one sewers map). Here's a sample of what the city maps look like: I used the night variations for a fast-paced adventure through the streets of Revalia as my players had to escape from numerous threats and police seeking them for some clandestine actions. Find them all here: https://falleron.wordpress.com/about/ Enjoy!
What are you making these in? o.o
I start in Sketchup to make the models and then do painting, texturing, and effects in Photoshop.
Wow what an amazing program Sketchup is.Is it hard to learn the basics?

I've been using it for a long time as part of my day job, so I'm probably not the best person to ask. The license is pretty expensive, but there is a free one as well with many of the tools available. As far as things go, it's pretty straightforward to pick up but it takes practice to run with. Essentially it lets you make 3d objects like boxes and such. How far you take that is up to your imagination. Many folk in design, urban planning, and architecture have to use it for pretty much everything. You can make some pretty neat stuff with it if you are willing to put in the time. :)
--------------------------- Update: 1/4 --------------------------- Revalian Nights continues, this time my players entered the city center and tried to rescue some of their friends who didn't manage to flee through the city with them. Continuing with the Revalian Nights arc, this map is a climbing and espionage map for players to gain access to the inner city. Players need to get into the sewer system to access the city, but the very thickmetal gate bars the way. To get around this players climb the wall using foothold items randomly placed. The foothold image I used is below: To make things more difficult, there are two devices in the control room. One lowers and raises the gate (I had this be the green button), while the other detects and suppresses magic and supernatural abilities. This forced my players to go up the wall the old fashion way, with numerous climb and leap checks as some of the bricks came loose under them. Once to the top of the wall, they had to take out the patrol wandering above the gate. Once in the city, they had to find a way up into the city proper, and to do this they used the sewer brothel: One of the seedier locations in the great city, the sewer brothel is home to some of the city’s most beautiful, and dangerous, members of the thieves guild. To find it players must know their way through the labyrinthine sewers or know the distinctive sewer grate hidden among thousands in the city. In any city with a great number of nobles you will always find an auction house, a place where the rice can flaunt their wealth for trinkets and baubles they probably don’t need. In the case of my party, the goods up for action were their ship’s storage lockers after they ran afoul of the law and their quartermaster was taken in by the police. Held in the back room to identify her cargo, the party had to rescue their quartermaster and outbid rivals for their items they kept in storage before they could be used to fund her defense at her trial. The map includes an area to post starting bids and items coming up for sale in the auction. I had my players have to compete with six NPC bidders they could distract with conversation checks or intimidate into leaving. Of course, my party just set fire to the storage room to clear out as many as they could before resuming the bidding. Whatever works! Hidden behind an innocuous door among the city is a secret torture chamber of the Inquisitors, the secretive cabal of the Knights Revalia devoted to rooting out any and all clerics from the city. The party had to rescue their support cleric, Imari, from this torture chamber and, depending upon how much time they wasted on the castle wall, the sewer brothel, and the auction Imari took increasing damage. While they managed to save her before she was killed, their delays caused her to be horrifically injured by blood magic, leaving her crippled and maimed. The party, in vengeance, wiped out the entire Inquisitor’s order within their prison and escaped into the sewers with their injured friend. The final room is found through the double arch on the bottom level. Functionally, there were also prisoners on the various racks and iron maidens that could be rescued or put out of their misery. The entire room can also be easily flooded via a large sewer catch, a design used to hide the evidence should the Inquisitors need to flee in a hurry or, in the party’s case, to put an end to the horrific place. I’m pretty happy with how these ones came out! I will probably keep working with the two-walls style of room more than other formats moving forward, it allows for a nice spread of movement while showing of height well. As always, the full size images are available for free here along with all my other maps: https://falleron.wordpress.com/about/ Let me know what you think, and happy new year everyone!
-------------------------- Update 1/11 -------------------------- Two new maps this week! This week the party ventured into Lord Koemann's Estate, home to the Marshal General in charge of the knights they have been fighting for the last few sessions and where their last companion was taken. Koemann had invited all of the freeholders of Revalia to a grand party, along with the remaining Knight Captains under him (mostly rivals), Horatio and the Constables of Revalia, some mercenaries (who turned out to be the remnants of House Yentz, the main villains of the last campaign) along with a fae high lady. After encountering one of the player's highly... enthusiastic father and stealing what they could from the study, the party witnessed Marshal Koemann announce that he was taking over the realm and declaring himself king... and that everyone attending but the mercenaries had been poisoned to get them out of the way. The party ended quite violently, with the party chasing after Koemann, parkouring around his locked doors (and over his attack dogs kennel) before finally confronting his 2nd in command in her chambers and on the roofs beyond. Having saved their friend, they, and the surviving party guests, have fled back into the city proper where fighting is now in full swing... As always, full sized maps (along with Daytime variations for the exterior) found here: https://falleron.wordpress.com/about/ I hope you enjoy them!
----------------------- Updates: 2/22 ----------------------- After a brief hiatus for the holidays, superbowl, and valentines day my campaign started back up last night and completed the last of the Revalian Nights arc. As the sun rose over the city, the players battled a tank in Dawnlight Square, then rode the top of that tank through a zombie horde through a series of maps on Parade Street, finishing at Revalia Palace where they confronted, and killed, Marshall Koemann: You can find full sized images (4000x4000) here: https://falleron.wordpress.com/about/ With this game session, the Revalian Nights arc ended, but the battles in the North around the great city are just beginning! Look for a very different set of maps starting next Monday as the party travels to a Highland manor to seek the help of a freeholder in distress. Thanks for keeping up with the thread, and let me know what you think!
Update 3/7 ------------------------- A mountain pass with a mysterious inn and a narrow tunnel through the mountains that's suffering from some cave in issues: As always, found here: https://falleron.wordpress.com/about/ Enjoy!
Wow these are great thanks.
