Numenera!

Anyone else out there pick up the .PDF? (It's gorgeous and packed with content so I am seriously considering shelling out for the hardcover) Is anyone on here interested in trying out Numenera? I'd prefer to play myself, as I am already GM'ing a campaign. For those who don't know, Numenera is a new Sci-Fantasy TTRPG from Monte Cook set a billion years in the future. 8 arcane and mysterious civilizations have come and gone on the Earth (humanity being at least one of them), and the world is now at the beginning of the ninth. The focus of gameplay is around discovering and understanding the Numenera, strange technological artifacts left over from dead empires that are sometimes so advanced that their purpose, composition, and/or conception may be incomprehensible. This all over the backdrop of young empires striving to gain power and survive amidst the largely savage and untamed world. The setting full of cool, creepy, strange and downright original ideas and the mechanics are pretty simple. Character creation is easy and novel, with players choosing prefixes and suffixes to rough character classes that make each character unique. For instance a "Swift Jack Who Controls Gravity" would be a roguish explorer who can move faster than most people and has some ability to manipulate gravity. These choices all provide mechanical benefits and some of them are downright cool.
Very interested in playing a Numenera game. It's the only game I want to play right now. No experience DMing, so I'd prefer to be a player. Already working on a character!
At first I thought it was a little too light on structure but I finally made it through most of the rules and I'm a lot more comfortable with it. I thought the Jack was a little borked at first, but the more I read the more I like them. So many cool hooks just in the places you can go :D
This looks pretty bad ass, to bad I won't be able to get it for a while x_x
The potential for great storytelling and interesting characters is huge, which is what hooked me :) Yeah I backed Torment which is how I got an early copy.
I'm going through it now and it looks like it would be a lot of fun. I'd be up for trying it.
Got the PDFs and am very interested. I currently have not read through the massive core book, but there is a long flight ahead of me that should offer plenty of time to read it. As for being a player or a GM: I've never been a GM, but I can give it a shot. Hopefully I will be playing a game with Monte and some other Kickstarter backers at some point in the near, so I might wait until after that to see how the game really should be played.
Well Chase, sounds like you have a chance to get a first hand look at how the game was envisioned to run.  That should prove valuable in running it even if you don't have a lot of experience as a GM.  In fact, since the GM role in Numenera is more story focused and doesn't roll dice, not having a traditional RPG GM background may help you, you won't have preconceived notions to taint your running. I'd be interested in hearing how it goes.
Yeah keep us posted, very interested in hearing how things go. I wish I could make Gen Con this year. Rudedd has some great points. I'm definitely ready to participate, we'll all be new to the game so it would be a great way to start out.

I have the PDF and, depending on time, would be interested in giving it a shot!
I might try setting up a Numenera game as a GM once I've read through the PDF, but I don't know when I'll have enough free time for that.
Looks like we have a couple of potential GMs, thats good.  I suspect interest will pick up after the pdf goes into general release the 14th. We'll see how many players/GMs we get maybe enough for 2 games....
I'd be interested in playing as well. I've read through my PDF and the system seems very elegant, so I'd love to give it a go!
I've been quiet for a few days. Sorry folks, work is nuts. I've read through most of the .pdf. This is probably the biggest core rulebook I've ever seen o.O. Like I said, I'd rather play, given the chance. And yeah, the system seems simple enough for a new GM to pick up fast. If you want advice I'd be more than happy to give some. I've found a really good thing to do after every session is to provide a short, generic feedback questionnaire. I usually just ask 4 questions about the plot and/or session events and what the players think. Sometimes they're silly, sometimes they're directed at specific players, but everyone always has input. It's been pretty useful.
Also hi Ezra!
I would also be very interested in being a player in a game. Read through the core book and it looks like a great system.
Well, that's seven players and two GMs interested so far.  Looks like we could potentially put something together once HoneyBadger or Chase get comfortable with the rules/setting.  The more I read the more I like what I see. I'd definitely like to try this out.  I doubt I'll get any local gamers to try it, so this might be the only way I get to play it.
+1, I was a Numenara backer and joined the game-design sessions that Monty put on.  What a blast!  If anyone ends up gm'ing a session, please let me know - I'd be in.
Would love to join as well. Got a pre-order in at local shop.
It may be a month or so before I can get around to reading the pdf... so I wouldn't count on me starting a game any time soon, especially with GenCon coming up next week.
If I can manage to get a copy of the book or the .pdf around GenCon time, I would be totally interested in trying it out.  The system and setting are totally intriguing to me!
Add one more to those interested. I been wanting to play the Tough Jack who fuses flesh and steel that I rolled up.
Here I was considering setting up my own game and all as well
Well, that is at least 11 players.  Hanako T. if you are considering running there are plenty of players.  Both HoneyBadger and Chase C. are considering running, but both will be starting a bit later for various reasons.  So you have first pick among players if you go soon.
I would probably run it between 7pm and 11pm eastern time on either Thursday or Saturday, the SR5e would be on the opposite day. I am really I terested in runn
I'd be interested in trying the game out and 7pm to 11pm eastern Thursdays works really well for me. Let me know.
Hey Hanako, That's great and 7-11pm on Thursdays work for me.  Are you thinking weekly or ever other week (weekly would be hard for me to do with family obligations, but might be able to pull it off).  I'd be in ... I'll start thinking about what kind of character I want to play (of course final decisions will wait until the character creation session or how ever you want to handle it).  Hopefully enough from this pool of players can play on Thursdays too.
Hello Hanako.  I would be up for joining in on a Thursday evening game as well. Got a few character ideas I've been tinkering with.  Let me know if there's a spot availible. Thank you.
Well then! It seems like Thursday it is. When I get home I will make the game and send the invites.
Cool, I'm looking forward to it.
I'm interested in Thursdays and Saturday as well!
id play but id need a pdf to make a guy ^_^
Join links sent to those who expressed interest after I posted.
Shoot, that'd be too early for me since I'm on the West Coast. Hopefully one of the other games will work when they are up and running. =)

I'd be game for 7-11 Thursdays. It'd be 8-12 for me, but staying up late one night a week won't kill me I spose :D
HEYA FOLK SONGS! Hanako is running a pretty cool Numenera game, but we've only gotten 2 sessions deep and all but 2 players have spontaneously bailed. The game's been great so far so it's a mystery to me as to why. SO. If you're ready to play some new weird sci fantasy in probably the coolest setting envisioned since Planescape or Dark Sun, give Hanako a shout. If you're intimidated by a new ruleset; it took me 5 minutes to build a character (outside backstory and character dev) after only skimming the rulebook. Character creation is simultaneously simple, and surprisingly deep. Plus, we can help. Join up! Have a blast! Discover old computers that wear fancy hats! Fight evil panthers with black holes for faces! The possibilities are endless.
Oops I may have spoke too soon. Still, message Hanako. We may still have room for 1 or 2 more.

Sorry I took so long to find this, but I´d be game as well. Depending on the timezone though, since I´m from Central Europe. If not, I´d be happy for tipps how to get in contact with other groups.
Odin D. said: Sorry I took so long to find this, but I´d be game as well. Depending on the timezone though, since I´m from Central Europe. If not, I´d be happy for tipps how to get in contact with other groups. You and me both, pal.
What I forgot to mention. I got the PDFs and my char´d be Odin Gani'uhr is a learned Nano who crafts unique objects.
So are people going to play Numenera? I have to say, between the setting and the mechanics, it seems like an amazing game to play. I'm in EST and interested in playing; available after work most nights, though probably not Friday. I don't have tons of gaming experience; would probably make a better player than a GM. In the meantime I'll be reading the source material (or Shadow of the Torturer).  (I can't decide if I'd want to try an Intelligent Glaive who Fuses Flesh and Metal, or a Rugged Jack who Controls Beasts. Or maybe a Mechanical Nano who Speaks to Machines.)
I have the core book and am interested in this as a player for now. after I read it, I'd like to GM new to roll20, just tried to get it going today.
I'd love to give Numenera and Roll20 a go- I've got both the Corebook and Player's Guide from supporting the Torment Kickstarter, and I really dig the setting. To be perfectly honest, I'd prefer playing to GMing. I'm more interested in character development and story than mechanical benefits, so I make for a terrible power gamer. I'm in CET, but I can be fairly flexible when it comes to scheduling.
Numenera setting and rules look awesome. I missed the kickstarter, but bought both pdf and then hardcover soon after. But have not played it, but in case someone gets a game together please keep me in mind ;)
I also got the pdf and will getting the HB this week I hope, I have been reading the book (it's massive!) but such a good read. I would like to GM it or play but I am more of a GM. I have set up a Roll 20 game page already with myself as the GM. Let me know if anyone is interested. I am really liking what I am reading so diverse and to me really looks like it could be spun to run a Destiny game based of the upcomming vid game.
I've started a LFG, but I'm also interested in playing, I've read most of the book cover to cover and have run a couple sessions RL. While I'm an experienced gamer RL side, I'm still learning Roll20. The LFG I've started is Numenera: Tang of Metal, hope to see some play soon.
