[INTEREST] Starting New Pathfinder Campaign, New GM/Player Oriented

Hi all! Like the title says, this is just an interest thread for the time being. I am looking at starting a new player friendly Pathfinder campaign. I'm a new GM, so it'll be a bit of a learning experience for all involved. I plan on starting with the very VERY basics, running the dungeon in the Beginner's Box and working our way into an Adventure Path. Ideally I want to keep the same characters all the way through, potentially converting the Adventure Paths so that even high level characters can be involved. That's in the far off future, however. Right now, I'm looking at 4-5 players, level 1, just the basics. I'm still learning Pathfinder, and I don't expect this campaign to kick off for at least a week or two. If you're interested just post away! I've got to run at the moment but when I get back from work I'll post some more details, my GM style, etc. Thanks!
I'm interested in this. Would like to learn Pathfinder and the Beginner Box looks like a good place to start. What's your thoughts about when this would start??
Very interested. I'm completely new to Pathfinder myself, so I'd love to learn the basics this way. I should be able to play anytime in the evenings that isn't Sunday or Saturday nights (EST), so I'm looking forward to the details and hoping to fit this into my schedule.
Im interested too. I would like to try to play through this site. And I have a curiosity towards Pathfinder. The only thing is I can only play on the weekends, and maybe Fridays. And it has to be in the evenings. Anyway, let me know when you want to start this. Cheers, Andre
Very interested, not terribly familiar with pathfinder rules but looking to pick up the core book.  If interested, shoot me a pm.
I'd love to get in on this. Haven't had a chance to play Pathfinder yet, but I've liked the look of the game from when I've perused the books. I haven't been in a game in far too long. Anyway, Sunday nights generally work the best for me.
For anyone interested in messing around with creating characters based on the Beginner Box rules there is a FREE version of Hero Lab created specifically for this purpose. <a href="http://wolflair.com/index.php?context=hero_lab&amp;page=pathfinder_roleplaying_game" rel="nofollow">http://wolflair.com/index.php?context=hero_lab&amp;page=pathfinder_roleplaying_game</a> Hero Lab is a commercial character creation program but they released a free version which is a great way to test character builds in my opinion. Even if the Beginner Box is not the full Core Rulebook version.
It's called the Hero Lab Starter Edition... <a href="http://wolflair.com/index.php?context=hero_lab&amp;page=starter_edition" rel="nofollow">http://wolflair.com/index.php?context=hero_lab&amp;page=starter_edition</a>
I'm interested in this as well! My availability is anytime after 6pm PST on the week days and weekends I'm free!
I'm on lunch break so not a whole lot I can add at the moment but this will be around 8am Seoul time, I'm in Korea. It equates to about 11 or 12 UTC. Because of the time zone I plan on running this on either Saturday or Sunday. Once I actually make a campaign in the LFG area it will make things simpler because it converts the time to your local time zone automatically. If there's a lot of people unable to make it I will change it to a later time (my time) which would make it earlier in UTC. Like I said earlier, still a lot of planning to do on my part but if you're interested, you can at least prepare to apply by getting a character ready. Nothing fancy - I would prefer if you made your characters using only the core rule book or the beginner box rules, exceptions may apply for veteran players interested in joining. Priority will be given to new players though. More details to follow in 5-6 hours. Thanks for the posts all!
As a Veteran player, it would be easy to use the core rules only. If you go all out and use other books it can get confusing fast. I have been told The advanced guide is for advance players. If you want I would Like to join depending on day and time, I am an experienced player, I could help on some rules but I am iffy on some rules.
Also for anyone who is getting or has the Pathfinder Beginner Box there is a free download from Paizo themselves that helps with the transition from that to the Pathfinder Core Rulebook. Helps with transitioning between the two....Beginner box is more about teaching the basic ply mechanics in an introductory fashion. The Core rulebook is the full game. <a href="http://paizo.com/products/btpy8uqm" rel="nofollow">http://paizo.com/products/btpy8uqm</a>
Well, count me in as someone interested. Though I am an experienced player so I won't steal a new player's spot if it comes down to it. But if you need someone who does know the rules, count me in.
Okay, now that I'm off work and have time, more details! TIME/DATE To be determined, but most likely around 8:00am UTC+9 (11:00pm UTC) on Saturday or Sunday, my time. Which means for some it will be late night Fridays or Saturdays - it'll be up to you to do the math on what time the game will be taking place in your time zone. For now though, since the time isn't set in stone, just determine if you're interested or not. Time will be settled later, but it will definitely be weekends. SYSTEM Pathfinder - 'nuff said, really. Initially will be focused on the Beginner's Box set and expanding into the full version as the characters (and GM!) progress. PLAYERS This will include 4-5 players, preferably new/fairly new to the Pathfinder game. As I am a pretty new GM, I see it as a learning experience for all - novice players will feel 'at home' with a GM that's also still learning, and experienced players won't have to sit through the hassle of a GM bumbling something up. If you're an experienced player and are interested, that's fine also, but just be aware of what you're jumping into beforehand. CHARACTERS All characters will be starting at level 1, using the basic races and classes (human, elf, dwarf; cleric, fighter, rogue, wizard). I'd consider widening the selection to the races and classes available in the core book as well (gnome, half-elf, half-orc, halfling; barbarian, bard, druid, monk, paladin, ranger, sorcerer) because I plan on this campaign going past the material covered in the Beginner's Box and I'd rather not restrict players to the BB classes and races simply because that's where we started. That being said, if you want to use classes not covered in the BB, they can ONLY be from the Core Rulebook. I don't want to restrict players when making their characters, but at the same time I don't want people getting crazy and using stuff from all sorts of different material. As for alignments, anything good or neutral. Definitely no evil - this is a beginner's campaign, and anyone that's played D&amp;D or any RPG for that matter knows that evil characters make life hard. One last note on characters - don't go too in depth with backgrounds. Remember, these characters will be just starting their adventuring careers. They're not veterans, they're not old, they haven't traveled extensively (most likely), etc.. That being said, feel free to give them a family history and whatnot, come up with friends and enemies, etc., but keep it fairly brief. As was said, they'll be just starting off. They won't have gone far, so just a bit about their childhood and why they are the class they are will be plenty. If you want to work up your character while you wait for the campaign to start, you can use Myth-Weavers to make your character sheet. Here's the basic info you'll need: Attributes: Use an array, one of the following, your choice. 16, 14, 13, 12, 10, 10 16, 14, 14, 12, 10, 8 15, 14, 14, 13, 10, 10 15, 14, 14, 12, 12, 9 Equipment: You can buy any equipment from the Beginner Box's Hero's Handbook. The selection isn't massive, but for what we'll be doing, it's plenty - you'll have the opportunity to get more gear as the campaign progresses. You start with gold dependent on your class.&nbsp; Fighter, Paladin, Ranger: 175gp Cleric, Rogue: 140gp Barbarian, Bard: 105gp Druid, Sorcerer, Wizard: 70gp Monk: 35gp CAMPAIGN SCOPE The campaign will be starting in Sandpoint, at the beginning of the Beginner's Box campaign. After the main dungeon, I'll be adding a few dungeons to that before concluding the Beginner's Box campaign. Once the BB campaign is done, and the players feel like continuing, we'll move on to an Adventure Path. Which Adventure Path that will be is yet to be determined. As the campaign progresses, though, we'll be attempting to develop characters up. By which I mean you'll be able to own businesses and go do your own thing from time to time. One of my favorite sessions of D&amp;D was one in which my halfling rogue managed to con a tavern owner out of the deed to his tavern. Now the owner of the Black Rose, I spent most of the rest of the night deciding what the layout of the tavern would be after I remodeled, what inventory I would stock, what sort of 'adventurer's basement' I would build, etc.. That's the stuff I want people to be able to do in this campaign over time. So bear that in mind - if you're a rogue and want to start a thieves guild, start plotting rough details. If you're a wizard and want to build a tower of your own, get some sketches of the tower and what you'd like to have in it, that sort of thing. It'll be a while down the road, but bear it in mind. GM STYLE As I've mentioned, I haven't DM'd much. The times I have done it though I usually just focus on having fun. If playing the game is a chore, then you're doing it wrong. For a good idea of how I'm wanting to run this, listen to the Acquisitions Incorporated podcast from Wizards of the Coast if you haven't already. In that podcast, the focus is on having fun. There's tons of humor, lots of laughs, and they still have an interesting story going on. The DM isn't forcing players to use Old English when they talk, isn't forcing them to stay serious and in character all the time, that sort of thing. Just play the game, have fun, and don't worry about the details. A friend of mine who was the DM for my first D&amp;D game ever gave me a bit of a pointer about how he handled roleplaying. When you're talking in character, just talk normally. He had me basically imagine a translator that was changing how I spoke to the NPCs into Old English, essentially. It's a bit weird, I know, but for those that haven't dabbled in RPGs at all before it might be a bit of help getting into things. I know I felt like I needed to be serious at first - I didn't know how these things worked! So to stop rambling, just be yourselves and have fun. I'm down for funny situations and responses to things in the game. It's what makes RPGs incredibly fun - you can do practically anything you please. Also, as I mentioned above, if you want to hear how I plan to run this game, listen to the Acquisitions Incorporated (Penny Arcade) podcast or watch one of the live games on Youtube. They're absolutely hilarious and will set the tone nicely for what I want to do here (hopefully!). START When will this start? Probably not for a good week or two. I'm going to be working on getting the Roll20 assets in place so things will roll out smoothly once the campaign starts. QUESTIONS? I'll keep an eye on this thread while I work getting the game set up, so if you have questions about anything, let me know. Thanks for your time!
The only time I would be able to play out of those days is Friday for me, so my vote is for that. My character will probably either be a Fighter or a Paladin, but I prefer being a Paladin if we are going to make this a long term thing. I'm still very interested and would like to be a part of this, but I'm only open to play on Saturday, your time.
After reading the description I am really interested in joining. I have the Core rulebook, but not the beginner's box, Is that ok if I use the Core Rulebook in order to prepare my character? I played D&amp;D before, but it was a long time ago and I never played Pathfinder, so for all purposes I am a beginner :). And I watched the games of Acquisitions Incorporated on YouTube and if that is what you are aiming for then is going to be great. The time works for me for now. Although in the future I may only be able to play on Saturdays (which would mean Sundays for you), but that is in the future.&nbsp; Im currently living in Canada and Im 31 years old, just to let you know a little bit about myself. Anyway, I will begin doing my character and I will post here when done Cheers
Greetings! This looks really up my alley as I'm new to PnP, but not new to the whole concept of RP and am familiar with DnD mechanics. I got the Pathfinder PDFs recently and still trying to get the basics of making a character sheet. I'm generally free on weekends, so hopefully the timezone difference wont be much of an issue. Your 8am on saturday/sunday would be my 7pm which is just perfect for me. (UTC - 4). 27 year old from Puerto Rico. I'd be willing to play any class, but would like to dabble with a caster. Since this would be my first pnp game I'll probably make it a bard or a cleric since they're more balanced and I'm not too familiar with all mechanics yet. Hope to get into something soon! Looking forward to testing the waters with Pathfinder. :)
Unfortunately Sunday night (which would be Monday morning for you) is the only time I can really commit to, so I won't be able to play in this one. Have fun with the game though!
Heya, I'm entirely new to the game and im looking for a pathfinder game, and this sounds like a great way to learn the game and get some practice. I'm 21 years old, in GMT and can be pretty flexible in times, just not too late into the night. I leave to go on holiday tomorrow for 10 days, so feel free to message me if you want me or not and i'll reply when im back. Whatever you decide, hope you find the players you want and have fun if you go without me (:
Could do Friday nights (eastern time), which would be Collin's Saturday.&nbsp; Paladin or Ranger most likely, veteran RP'er, I have the full version of hero lab.&nbsp; If the group works I'm happy to make the weekly commit.&nbsp; Add me to Skype, natethegreat976, let me know it's you.
I'm excited to see so many people interested in the game! Like the thread title says, this is purely for interest right now - once I get the campaign set up and ready to go I'll open up the game in LFG (and link it here, don't worry!). I've almost got the initial dungeon ready to go, so before too awful long I'll feel comfortable enough to kick this thing off. Again, thanks for the posts guys, if you have questions about anything let me know!
Andre said: After reading the description I am really interested in joining. I have the Core rulebook, but not the beginner's box, Is that ok if I use the Core Rulebook in order to prepare my character? Same here, I have the core rulebook but not the beginner's box. Are you alright with us making the character with the attribute scores and wealth you gave us and pick equipment we can afford via the core rulebook?
That's fine by me.
I made a character just for fun. I used the Core rulebook as a guide. I tried to remember as much as I could how to make a character based on D&amp;D 3rd edition, but using Pathfinder rules. Here is the character: <a href="http://www.myth-weavers.com/sheetview.php?sheetid=625901][B][SIZE=+1]Dranir" rel="nofollow">http://www.myth-weavers.com/sheetview.php?sheetid=625901][B][SIZE=+1]Dranir</a> I used the Myth-Weavers site to do sheet, but I have no idea how to post it here, so if you guys can't see it, let me know. My character would basically be a half-elf/ Ranger. Im looking forward for the game. Cheers.
I'd love to play, as I am very new to tabletop role playing games. Fridays are the day I would be most available to play on. Like Andre, I made a character for fun using the core rulebook (and Logan) as a guide.&nbsp; <a href="http://puu.sh/3UYBh.pdf" rel="nofollow">http://puu.sh/3UYBh.pdf</a> Not counting Baldur's Gate and other cRPG's, this is the first character I've made (hopefully) correctly and actually using a rulebook. Since it is my first though, there might be some errors or things I forgot to fill in, so please tell me if I did something wrong.
Yes please
I prefer all characters to be on Myth-Weavers purely because it's easy to update and view, and everyone's format is the same. You don't have to make a new e-mail or whatever right now, you can wait until the campaign starts and players are picked if you'd prefer. If there's a site similar to Myth-Weavers that hosts sheets online, let me know and we can use that as well. Myth-Weavers is the only place I know of at the moment. I had a long day at work today so I'm calling it a night a bit earlier than normal, but I'll be on tomorrow and I'll give characters a quick look over .
Hey, i was wondering if you are still looking for players? I am fairly experienced with D&amp;D (3/3.5e), but never touched Pathfinder before. If you'd want me, can you tell me what classes are 'taken' so far, so i can make a educated guess on a usefull class?

<a href="http://www.myth-weavers.com/sheetview.php?sheetid=626641" rel="nofollow">http://www.myth-weavers.com/sheetview.php?sheetid=626641</a> Silly dwarves.
I'm interested! I have been playing pathfinder and D&amp;D on and off for the past 8 years. I'm new to roll20, but really looking forward to joining a game. Let me know if you're still looking for players. My timezone is GMT-5 Thanks, Molly
I should be opening the campaign in LFG here soon and when I do I'll post here and redirect all interested players there. This thread is primarily for expressing interest in playing and asking questions about the game while I get it set up and ready for players.

Im just wondering if the idea of the game is still on. :) Was a group formed in the end? If not, Im still waiting, hoping to play. Cheers
