Copying chat archive off page to text.

I hope I'm not failing miserably somehow, but here goes: As time has gone on, the chat archive for my campaign has grown immensely. Big. Huge. So large, in fact, that it takes a few minutes to load (freezing all other roll20 stuffs in the meantime). Scrolling around takes forever. Since I like referring to past events, I was going to load the whole damn thing up, and then copy down chunks of the log for each play session onto files on the computer, so I could go look up the relevant play session for reference. I then found that I was unable to copy and paste from the chat archive page. How do I copy off of the chat archive, and/or is there some other (better?) way to... archive the archives. Also, given that our entirely-chat-based campaign has run up a lag-inducing chat archive over the course of a month, I suppose that this method won't work within a year of continuous campaigning. I guess that has to do with clearing chat archives, though, and goes elsewhere.

How to copy: Go to archive, right click, select 'save as', save the file as a webpage complete. Go open up the file you saved and now you can copy/paste it. There is also a way to clear them and that is by copying the entire campaign without the chat archive. - Gauss
Are you using chrome? I can't copy using chrome, but I can when using firefox.

Yes, I am using chrome. - Gauss
Hmmm...this is a bug, I'll look into it. However, when your game loads, it should only be loading the first 100 chat messages -- are you seeing more than that when you scroll up?

Riley: As the OP stated, this is a problem in the archive, not in the regular chat messages. :) Using Chrome you cannot highlight the archive and thus you cannot copy it. There is the workaround I mentioned above (right click, select save as, select Webpage Complete, then open up the file you saved. Also, when the archive gets really large it nearly locks up while loading. It will lock up your connection to a game you are in as well. - Gauss
Ah, I see. I've been meaning for a while now to look at the Chat Archive and figure out a better way to do that. As someone who uses it, what would work best for you? Load the earliest messages then "inifite load" them as you scroll down?

Scroll based 'infinite load' would fix the problem with load times locking up the browser and that might be the simplest solution to that problem. Alternately, a date based Chat Archive would be nice. But that would probably need to happen with a timestamp implemented. (Something I would like as well). - Gauss
