Exploration of the Island

Since we seem to be filling up the topic on building the city with discussions of exploration, here is the topic that Naessae suggested. We can keep this thread up for party planning and those topics needed for the exploration of our new world. So far, as far as I can tell here is a summary of what is being planned for when we final make land. It appears that there are at least 3 groups looking to do some exploring. Group 1 is Ren, Azariah?, Daleira, Zury, and Pezzack.  Group 2 is Prytania, Armand, Azariah, and Zordlon.  Group 3 is Issachar (who is intending to make a straight line out into the wilderness, looking for a good place for a 2nd Outpost. I want to set up a cart route back to the coast for furs and other goods coming out of the forests. My base movement is 40', so I doubt anyone wants to walk with me. It is my intention to strike out due North from the Outpost, bearing West if the coastline demands it. Group 4 Horses? Wil and Lyon? If I have missed something please either post it or let me know and I can fix it.

So to be honest I'm not entirely sure what is going on either but here are some correction that might be totally wrong: 1. there is another group comprised of people with horses. Will and Lyon.&nbsp; 2. Groups 1 and 2 are kinda one group right now, though I would not be surprised to see the split up.&nbsp; 3. (You have Azariah on twice)
Daleira (Ranger w/ high survival and all that) would suggest that we should never be out in the wilderness in a party of less than four individuals. These are dangerous areas and the unknown could lead to some of us getting injured or even worse. At this early stage in our exploration, the focus should be on knowing our immediate surroundings and creating an area that we can defend, while we build up the outpost.&nbsp; She would argue vehemently against Issachar's ideas making two basic points. First, the priority is not setting up a 2nd outpost when we don't even have our 1st. We can't afford to have folks rushing off into the wilds with out some kind of plan. His idea would likely lead us into danger that we can't deal with right now. Second, if you insist that you would move at your full movement rate, and that others will need to keep up or get left behind, then she would just shake her head with a small smile and say "well it's been nice knowing you Issachar. One person, alone in the wilderness probably won't last through the first night, but you might be the exception right?" Daleira would turn back to the rest of the group saying "I think that one of the other groups should start in the plains to the south, then move to the plains in the southwest. The other group should start in the plains to the northeast, and move next to the forest in the North. I'd volunteer to be in the group that hits the north. Not bragging but I have a pretty good feel for the forest's."
I'm happy to go with group 1 or 2, whichever more needs a heavy damage dealer like Azariah
Since the clerics only have a 20 ft speed, their group would take two days per plains hex. Given that, a team that can all travel at 30 will ultimately cover more ground, which means we could see more hexes before we have to resupply. Whichever team Pezzack ends up with, he would prefer to first explore hex -01,00 , explore the hexes southwest and south of -01,00 , and then explore 00,-01 before returning the outpost hex to resupply. Depending on what are in the unseen hexes, this should take 4-6 days. How does that sound to everyone?
Okay, this has been quite confusing to organize, how about we organize by where we would like to go? Would that be a little easier than just grouping people then deciding?&nbsp;

I don't mind too much where to explore, although Armand wants to go to the mountains... So I guess I'll be going towards (00,-01) Still, &nbsp;what I really want to do is to secure some hexes adjacent to the outpost, and start developing/securing the area, Exploring is not my cup of tea, I'm focusing on gathering a decent team to raid some dungeons, beat up some goblins, etc.. Hopefuly scribe some healing scrolls to fuel up the early expeditons, and let us all divine casters to diversify our spells.
What does Azariah bring to a party * High, sustained damage that does not go down over the course of the day * High HP, reasonable AC * Fairly good saves. * 60ft Darkvision * Can heal himself with stackable temp hp * Can walk on water (not a joke) * His charming smile * His fishing net, skinning knife and naturally good survival score.
Yes I do believe Will (myself) and Lyon were going to set out on our horses to cover ground a bit faster!

Ren too, is not too caught up with mapping the island or anything specific to exploring but would be interested as well in taking on some challenge missions (Depends on how hard these missions end up) and exploring some dungeons. He would like to find a few people who, in the future, he could rely on to do exploring with and whatnot. Companions if you will.&nbsp; What are his goals? Well Ren isn't so sure but here is what Sam's thinking. He is going to end up having a informal walk in clinic for those in need, he see's this as a good way to practice his skills and if it helps people... that good too. Since the main chapel for clerics (as far as I can tell) will either be in the main encampment or a cult base in the mountains he would like to set up away from that. If people are willing to try to set up a forward base he would be willing to go as well, inviting those who looks to maybe create trade routes, face danger or explore deeper into the land.&nbsp; Now for the bullet points, what does Ren bring to a party? * Good Sustained Damage and Ability to kill ghosts * Very High Mobility * Good defense (once he hits level 3 at least)&nbsp; * Decent Saves (Better than average Fighter)&nbsp; * Has good perception, stealth and acrobatics * Is a doctor, Diagnosing and heal checks are great * Has out of combat HP recovery * Sam Post's a lot and therefore Ren is active :P
Xarrack, his bodyguard&nbsp;Adoendithas, and (HPL's Character, when I know a name) will take the Northern route, as I previously posited.
I'm down for pursuing missions while we explore, and choosing where to go based on what missions and quests become available. Really, as long as we're exploring near the starting settlement I'll be happy.
I agree with Eeyore. Exploring the surrounding area seems to be our best bet to start, and better for my Zuryana's poor feet
Okay, we're just a couple days out til landfall, so I'd like to confirm who wants to explore with me. Pezzack will be guiding a party to explore 5 hexes to the southwest of the main outpost. We will be making a circle, returning to the outpost to resupply after hitting 5 hexes. Any who can keep up with a 30 ft move rate are welcome to join. The travel plan may be amended to qualify for any missions that come up for surrounding areas. If you want to be a part of this group, post in response to this thread stating such, and be ready to post in your downtime log about exploring with the group. Looking forward to discovering a new land together!

Same thing here, I'm representing the 20ft group. So far and due to the nature of the group, we are pretty geared towards dungeoneering (AOE damage, Heals, high AC guys and a rogue), and that will be our focus more than anything else really. We lack someone with decent survival knowdlege or to explore well tho (our best is me, and all I can do is roll twice with a +2) As to where to go, I don't mind too much, neither does Zordlon, for what I know. My main idea is to secure the inner circle as much as we can. After that, time will tell, but I'll probably start setting up something in/near the outpost. Well then, I would like to join Pezzack's group but it seems a bit filled at the moment. I also don't really have great survival skills so... probably can't join prytania's groups.&nbsp; Is there anyone else interested in exploring? Right now having a few people around is always good. If no one else is exploring then I'll just beg to join one of the existing one's.&nbsp;

You're always welcome, Sam. In fact it seems that my "group" will mostly follow Pezzack's, and set up a camp while they explore and wait for them to report back, then start the cleaning process. In the meantime I'll scribe scrolls or something to free everyone from having to pick heal spells, since we can't explore without wandering randomly through the island. Plus, a 5 man group would be nice, we just need a decent survivalist to explore, but I'm not limiting the group to ONLY have survivalists from now on.
Okay, so, exploration time is here! I've just posted my downtime exploration here . Now, if you like, we can collaborate on exploration. Zuryana, Daleira, Azariah, and Seraphina have all expressed interest in traveling together. Ren also expressed some interest but seemed unsure, and Gila as well, though I'm unsure is she has an approved character yet. Pezzack isn't too choosy about the company he keeps, as long as your speed is at least 30 ft you're welcome to join. Basically, the plan is travel to hex -01.01 on Wednesday, explore it Thursday, then travel to -01.00 on Friday, explore there Saturday, and travel to 00.-01 on Sunday, to explore there at the start of Week 2. This way, after exploring 00.-01 we can travel into 2 newly revealed hexes to explore, giving each of us 5 explored hexes. How does that sound to everyone?
So 20 ft group who says we explore the same original hex ass pezzacks group but go to the mountains rather than the grasslands?
I'm going with pezzack, posting my exploration downtime now.
Please Don't post exploration downtime until i have finished the guide .. there are rolls you need to make when exploring. &nbsp;This should be finished sometime today.

There's a series of issues with me exploring this week: Since I doubt that the 20ft group can explore without someone competent in survival, I've decided to spend all this week building in the town. Plus, that will boost my economy a bit and I will have the cash to start scribing scrolls. On top of all that, I only have 1 ration (smart me) and unless I start eating my chickens I'm going to starve while exploring :P I'll be able to join you next week when you come back... Hopefully.
Okay, then I'll take the same option and just build this week. At least this way I can finish the storefront in the bar.&nbsp;
To those traveling with Pezzack, on Day 7 of Week 1, we should travel to hex -01.-01, which will be revealed in next week's explorations. This is to avoid exploring in a hex in week 2 that was already explored by Lyon and Will in week 1.
Okay, Panther team, the question is, how many locations do you want to explore this period? Three, maybe four? We can explore -01.-01 on Day 1 since we're there. Next I'd suggest moving to -02.-01, exploring, and on to -02.00. After exploring there, should we head back to town, or squeeze in one more exploration in -02.-1? I'm assuming we don't want to explore indefinitely. What do you think?
I think Azariah is building this week. Do the 3 of us want to forge on without him or take the week to build too?
Good question. Zuryana hasn't posted in under a week, so it might be down to us two, and I'm not sure we could handle an encounter with just the two of us and your companion. Going back to town might be our best bet, sadly.
Rusty would like to scout a little too. He has free time next week. He is a fighter and now owns a horse.
Ren's got nothing to do this week, if anyone is going to be at outpost this week, Ren would be glad to tag along. If you are in a nearby hex that is fine, since traveling is much faster than exploring Ren can catch up.&nbsp;
If anyone acquires a horse they are more than welcome to join me and Lyon as we explore :)
I think I'll just build this week. Let's discuss if we can get all the gang back for exploration next week maybe.&nbsp;
