Looking for tips on getting into a character that I don't like (almost hate)

This is actually for a physical game around a real table, but I think the question is still plenty relevant here. I'm playing a Mage: The Ascension game run by my father. Who happens to be the best GM I've ever had. We'll be starting the second session today and I'm dreading stepping back into the shoes of my character (a Scotch-Irish Verbena mage from Germany). The way my dad runs his games, you have no control over anything happening to or caused by your character unless you are so into the role that you respond almost before he finishes talking. You have to keep up with his energy to be able to do ANYTHING! Now it gets morbid. He's expecting me to draw on out-of-game knowledge that I don't have. Expecting me to understand perfectly the mind of my character who's been on several walk-abouts of Europe, sleeping on the ground and hunting for meals. I'm not an outdoors person. I made this character because I liked the idea of being able to shapeshift. I made the mistake of making character to match the build, instead of making a build to match the character. I didn't realize the extent of his expections for role playing. So, my question is: how do you guys deal with playing characters that aren't the right fit for you?
Hiya Gideon, You're going to want to post on Reddit or a similar forum centered on the game you're playing. The Specific Use Questions, here, is all about Roll20.net Specific Questions :) https://www.reddit.com/r/WhiteWolfRPG should have something for you, I believe.
