The party, after some exploration and a run-in with some flying piranha used the gate system they found. It seemed to have access to many worlds - with the machine having 1,000,000,000 combinations with just the dials and then there was the  positive/neutral/negative switch. The first world they scouted, which they learned is known as the Spheres of the Sludge Lords, wasn't their cup-of-tea so they looked at another world. This one appeared as an idyllic garden, with the sounds of birds chirping in the distance and the sound of a stream nearby. Making their way to the stream, they discovered it was made of blood, not water. The hellish landsape before them was desolate - mountains to the west and a cracked, flat desert to the north with smoke rising on the horizon. The garden seemed to fade away as if it were just an illusion or figment of their imagination and the gate along with it. They made their way north, towards the smoke where it took them to a chaotic, sprawling village of obsidian buildings, billowing smoke, and demonic forms going about their infernal existence. They took steps towards this settlement.....
... only to be ripped apart by demons not many seconds later.
