Image Search Community Moderation

Great program so far, one quick suggestion would be the ability to "vote down" or "report" an image that comes up in search that doesn't really pertain to the search (for example, when I searched Scifi City I got a barbarian with an axe and shield the top result for "Science Fantasy" is a random red van, both in the "maps" section) to avoid embarrassing results like the Van or incorrect images like the barbarian. Probably wouldn't be too hard to implement either.

You certainly do get a flood of dross searching for, say "cop", "police", "soldier"…. "Gangster" gets you cars, mostly. I have an interesting collection of tables and chairs that showed up in all sorts of searches. Indeed the art search facility has a lot of the humour of translating famous quotes to Russian, then Japanese, then back to English. "How on Earth did I get that?" I don't blame Roll20 for what's available and not, nor for the queer tags that third parties put on their assets, but the art search facility has been little use to me, and I think will be little use outside dungeon fantasy.

Instead of saying "don't bother searching" I would hope the developers put a bit more time into it for their users, after all, isn't that what a beta is for? No one is "blaming" Roll20, its called giving feedback, I'm sure Riley appreciates these kind of comments a lot more now then he would post launch. If he (or anyone on the roll20 team) takes the beta feedback as personal attacks, they have a lot more to worry about professionalism then they do a few strange search results...

Try searching for 'kitten' while looking for Tokens... you get one cat, and a lot of large machine guns. But it's mostly from dunjinni's website. I suspect the problem is at their end, with some of their pages possibly marked with too many search terms.

Try searching for "student". Mostly you get furniture, but also a squid washed up on a beach. Search for "professor". You get a fairy with dragonfly wings and a whole bunch of beetles.

Strangely enough, I've had a good amount of luck furnishing my game with almost entirely searched-for tokens, but I'm sticking to mainly fantasy backgrounds and being pretty adaptable.

Tried changing to more "fantasy" terms still no luck. Search "Magic Tome"... I also searched "Fairy" and got a sheep. lol, this is almost a game within a game!

We could also poke and prod at certain developers and ask them if they'd consider partnering directly with a site or two that do such things. But that's just a thought.

Trust me when I say the Roll20 team appreciate all forms of feed back both positive and negative. If we don't know whats wrong we can't fix it. Thanks for the feedback Michael.

Actually, as a hardcore D&D/Pathfinder GM, myself, I've had almost the exact same experience as you have with finding tokens, maps, tiles, and other art. I've even tried some simple stuff like "dwarf" or "elf" and had less luck than I'd have hoped.
