Date: 24-25th Harvester 609 CY Attendance: Wulrakas, Cat, Jareth, Alena. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Recap: After clearing the room of valuables, the party proceeds through the remainder of the building. Virgil stays behind after finding a bottle of vintage wine; he finishes it so quickly that he's soon unconscious. After navigating a hallway the party discovers a strange room. Inside, standing on a sarcophagus and held in a tapestry of semi-translucent black webs, is the swamp zombie. Jareth finds a switch on a pedestal in the corner and flips it, causing the 'webs' to vanish. The swamp zombie shambles forward and attacks. Despite defeating it with ease, the zombie reappears atop his sarcophagus each time he's felled. During this time Alena is punched and stricken with a debilitating curse. Shortly thereafter, they destroy a box at the swamp zombie's feet (but not before having some issues with the switch, turning the webs on and off sporadically) which uncovers a beating heart within. Jareth takes it, then SOMEONE[who?] opens the sarcophagus and snatches its contents: a strange, alien tome not of this world. The party then flees the room, but not before Cat mage hands the switch to trap the zombie. Taking the door to the south of the hallway, the party finds themselves in room riddled with traps. Thankfully Jareth is experienced in removing these. One of the disabled traps is even used to skewer the heart, which stops it from beating. Eventually they end up in a bedroom of sorts, and they find a trap door beneath the bed. They follow the tunnel beneath the trap door and emerge in a small, strangely shaped room with a dead body inside. A black cat moves tries to run forward but is snatched up by Alena; some dialogue is exchanged between the cat and Cat, revealing that this isn't the Thieves' Guild per se; that it's the home of the leader, the same man who is now a corpse in the room they share. Eventually the black cat transforms. She now looks to be human, save for her eyes, which remain much like a feline's. The cat-woman is rather demanding, first trying to convince the party to steal the tome she's searching for (the very same they've just taken), then threatening to let Alena die if they don't (as she's apparently aware of the Rhenee's cursed state). Eventually Alena reveals that they have the tome despite saying the contrary, and for that Cat LITERALLY MURDERS HER WTF blasts Alena with a spell, nearly killing her. During this time Cat is mesmerized by the woman, who appears in an almost divine form. After Alena is stabilized by Wulrakas, Jareth hesitantly hands over the tome to the woman. She opens it, revealing pages made of something that has the consistency and appearance of rippling water. Alien symbols float above the pages, none of which look to be of this world. After closing the tome the woman seems utterly dejected; she lifts Alena's curse, transforms again, and runs off. The party exits the home and seeks refuge in a tavern with decent accommodations. Cat enters Alena's room and apologizes; Alena seems to accept it, and she spends the night petting the furry little bard. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Experience: Alena – 8,000 XP (118,650 XP total) Wulrakas - 8,000 XP (191,750 XP total) Virgil - 0 XP (154,850 XP total) Cat - 8,000 XP (165,500 XP total) LEVEL UP 15 Jareth - 8,000 XP (142,500 XP total) LEVEL UP 14 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Loot: Strange, Alien Tome Cat Coin After setting down his belongings for the night, Cat finds a strange gold coin in his possessions. One side is an imprint of a snarling feline (either a panther, female lion or leopard) and the back is of a dense forest. Not to be confused with Keoland's "gold piece" currency -- the Lion -- which has an imprint of a male lion on one side and Keoland's coat of arms on the other. Magical Short Sword (Identified - Owned and Attuned by Jareth) The sword itself has a hilt wrapped in black linen. The blade has an almost ruddy red sheen to it. HP lost to this weapon's damage can be regained o nly through a short or long rest, rather than by regene ration , magic, or any other means. Once per turn, when you hit a creature with an attack using this magic weapon, you can wound the target. At the start of each of the wounded creature's turns, it takes 1d4 necrotic damage for each time you've wo unded it , and it can then make a DC 15 Constitution sa ving throw , e nding the effect of all such wounds on itse lf on a success. Alternatively, the wounded creature, or a creature within 5 feet of it, can use an action to make a DC 15 Wisdom (Medicine) check, ending the eff ect of such wounds on it on a success. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Notes: Cat vs Alena Modern Edition (trigger warning: gamer girl getting rekt m8s)
