Oooh, I too would like to try it. I'm a huge fan of generic systems (GURPS, the HERO System, and M&M 3rd come to mind). I'm huge just because i like food, but i'm a fan because it means there's a chance to really learn a system that I can adapt when needed. it makes cross-genre games a lot easier, and it allows some deviations for interesting characters. At first glance, this looks a bit too simple for the taste of the gamers I know. Having to rely on worldbooks likely is a problem, if the creator isn't someone with a company of creative minds backing him. One person likely won't be putting out many of them, and the GM would then be in the position to create basically everything from the skill list onwards in order to use the system. Now, simplistic isn't a bad thing. It does mean a lot of GM ruling on complex things that I could do though, and that's where various established systems shine. Suppose i have a character attempting to fire his heat-laser through the paper-ninja to bounce from a teammate's reflective shield in order to hit a rope to drop a drawbridge. If this were HERO, there would be specific rules for each of those things, and how long they take, seperate rolls for damage, accuracy, maybe a roll for the shield teammate to angle the beam slightly, and more. These things come together to turn a complex action into a cinematic one. in XM3RPG, I don't know any of the following: how long this action will take, does the paper demon take extra fire damage, does it burn, how long does that take, how far can my laser go. I would be afraid, I think, after reading this, that we'd instantly hit an impasse when I disagree with the GM on how long it takes. an attack is the only action i get in a round in this system, right? Does the laser automatically stop because it hit the paper-ninja? Why? Wouldn't a heat beam instantly make a hole in paper and keep going? Then there's deciding what to roll. I'd be unimpressed if i rolled only one die for the entire action, I think, yet that's the impression the pdf of this system is giving me.
