Gemstone Mines

NAME: Gemstone Mines TYPE: Kingdom, Standard PREREQUISITE: None MISSION LEVEL: 2 SLOTS: 6 DESCRIPTION: These mountains contain valuable gemstone deposits. We should mine these to increase the income brought into the town. We should clear out these natural shafts and make sure we can set up a mine here in the future.
SETUP: A recent discovery of gems in the mountains has lead to miners asking for brave adventurers to go clear out the shafts they discovered. Seeing the sign posted outside the silver harp, you decided to gather a group, and head there. Now is the time to prepare for your adventure into the gemstone caverns.
Greetings friends, I am Bebblebrox.  My aunt Poppy has sent a small package with me to aid us if needed.  It contains a few (3) healing potions and a couple (4) of those fire flasks (alchemist fires) along with a sunrod or two (just 1).  I've also got a 50 foot length of rope and some climbing gear (climber's kit), in case we need it.  Can you think of anything else we might need?

((I need everyone else to post before i can proceed. if you are not doing anything specific to prepare, then just say so. Please post as soon as you are able.)) A couple of miners have been nearby, waiting to see who would show up. One of the older men saunters over to Bebblebrox, Well hi there, are you the ones heading up to them gem-caves? He looks you over, and begins speaking again. Your probably gonna want more rope than that, or maybe some o them octo-hand thingies. Oh, and you'll need some mining gear too probably, don' t want to head up there and not be able to get any of them gems for yourselves! He chuckles and pats you on the back, and then re-joins his friends at a nearby table.
Ah yes, good point, maybe a few picks and one of them neat mining hats. I can get some extra rope, an extra water skin, sure to be thirsty work.  Hrmm, maybe I'll bring a few of my ponies, they're good at hauling stuff when you have the right harnesses on them.  Maybe some extra torches.... Goes to the bar and gets a round of drinks for the miners.   Thanks for the pointers, so, do you guys have any other tips on mining?   After chatting with these guys for a few minutes Bebblebrox runs back to Fizzy Pops and collects the additional equipment, loads up 2 of his ponies with the gear, saddles a third, and heads back to the Inn.   ((Now has 3 picks (2 regular, 1 MW) , 3-50 foot ropes, 2 sets of climbers gear, his octogrips, 3 empty backpacks, 4 torches, 1 set of flint and steel, a multicolored metal miners cap with strange curly-Qs coming off it))
(I'll just be bringing the regular backpack. Not the Adventuring pack)[yes I have 2 different packs]

The Miners walk with you to the edge of town, and then wave you off. It takes you a few hours, but you make it to the mountains that they had told you about. After a while of searching you can see the caves high above you, and a steep cliff leading up to them. It looks like the group will have to climb to make it up the 60 Ft ledge. OOC Each person will need 3 climb checks, or octogrips. One person can take a rope up for the others to make the climb easier. The DC is 15/20/15 the rope will give you a large bonus, making the DC 10/15/10
Bebblebrox finds a good spot to tie off the ponies ((near some grass if possible, with some feed nearby if not)) before going to asses the cliff face.  Looking at the cliff he pulls out 2 lengths of rope and ties them together and fixes the straps on his octogrips.   I'm headed up, I'll tie off the rope at the top.   He moves carefully up the cliff-face, making good progress.  Once at the top he succures the rope and tosses it down for others. ((take 10 for a 21 using the grips))

Zordlon grabs the rope and makes his way up the three ledges (OCTO GRIPS and take 10 for 16) "Thanks for the rope Bebblebrox. Makes it a lot easier to climb up."
Destra gazes up at the imposing cliff as she ties the rope around her waist securely. She pulls the captain's climbing contraptions from her bag and makes her way up steadily. (Taking 10 gives me 15 exactly.) Steadying herself at the top, she looks over the edge with morbid curiosity.

This small cavern's walls are lined with gemstones, all the way up to the roof 60 ft above. it is eerily silent, save for the slow dripping of water. You see a set of old mining tools, abandoned on the floor a few feet in. These are the caves the miners told you about, and now is the time to mine. I need a perception check from each character as they enter the caves. To-Gather-gems The first step is to mining is to identify the gemstones via Knowledge Dungeoneering DC 15 Once identified they may be appraised DC 17 to find the best ones, and then mined via a strength check, or profession miner DC 14 These mining rolls are done team style, using the highest roll, and then the others assisting

Bebblebrox walks up behind Zordlon knowingly.   Yeah, those are gems, and they seem to be of a decent value.  Lets see if we can get a few of them out. ((OOC: Knowledge Dungeoneering: 10, Appraise 16, Strength: 6))
"I believe these are the best ones Bebblebrox." Zordlon proceeds to knock them loose with the pickax (take 10 for a 17 appraise a.k.a. the exact DC rolled a 17 for a 19 on strength check.)
Kabril sees many shiny jewels!  (Perception 15)   Perhaps there are some that will make Kabril's spells work even better!   Kabril rushes over to the wall and begins running his hands over the gems.   Oh, this one is nice.  A ruby as big as a bird's eye.  And a sapphire the size of Kabril's thumb!   (Knowledge: Dungeoneering 18)  Ah, but over here is the best of them.  Kabril has found the truly beautiful ones. (Appraise 24)  Kabril begins prying at the gems with a crowbar (STR 17 w/ crowbar).

It is about mid day as you finish your first mining session, and stop for lunch. Settling down to eat and drink, you hear the cave's eerie silence again. After your meal, you get up to begin mining again, and notice a strange liquid drips down onto Bebblebrox. As you look up for the source, the strange slime stiffens, and Bebblebrox is pulled 15Ft towards the ceiling! roll initiative as the crab-like monstrosities pull Bebblebrox towards their snapping claws! OOC: the two creatures hiding on the shelves above shot filament at Bebblebrox, and hit, pulling him up 15 ft. The checks to get out of the filament are as follows: DC 20 STR check DC 25 escape artist and if your not confident in those - A filament is AC 14 (touch 12), has 5 hit points, and has DR 15/slashing The ceiling is 60 ft high

SLOT 2 Post (9am - 5pm est) Feeling himself all of sudden moving upward, Bebblebrox quickly wiggles free of whatever is pulling on him Sorry crabby, but I don't want to stick around for lunch.  He lands on his feet..   Look lively lads, there's danger above us.   Noting that his rapier will be of little use here, he pulls out his bow and reaches for an arrow. ((Init: 16, Escape Artist 27, Acrobatics using Derring-Do 20:   DODGING PANACHE if I get attacked again.  Bebble will shift 5 ft to the south west and gains an AC of 21))
Perception [23!] Know (Dungeoneering) [8] Strength [3] Appraise [18] Destra lets the professionals handle the hardest mining, she has some useful input on the value of the stones, however. .... Initiative[16] Destra loads her crossbow and fires a bolt at the closest of the foul creatures [18], hitting its leg. [3 damage]

Slot 2 (late) Kabril, seeing the crab thing attack Bebblebrox, begins muttering an incantation.  As it finishes, a red dart takes off from his hand, crisscrossing the chamber and circling upward, where if finally explodes in a dragon shaped burst of brilliance.   Kabril sees you, foul crab beast! //ooc Snapdragon Fireworks for 1 fire dmg, need a reflex save to avoid being dazzled, DC 16
Slot 3 post (5 pm - 1am) Notching an arrow Bebblebrox shoots at the crab above him while taking another step back. ((Attack of 11 = miss;   DODGING PANACHE if attacked. Bebble will shift 5 ft to the south west and gain an AC of 21))

SLOT 3: The crabs both move, positioning above Destra and Bebblebrox. Casting their filaments down at the adventurers, one landing its shot on Destra, while the other's strands land all around Bebblebrox. As the strands tighten, Destra feels them pulling against her, but they cant seem to lift her off the ground.
Nat 2 to hit..... still useless :D) Zordlon decides this is a great time to use his dagger for the first time and tries to cut the webbing above Destra...... he misses pretty terribly. I mean REALLY bad. As in he missed by a full foot.
Slot 3 Another zig-zag line of sparks shoot from Kabril's hand, following a dizzying path around the chamber and upward, striking the crab creature again. //ooc: 4 fire dmd, Reflex 16 or Dazzled

((sorry i missed slot 1)) neither of you have the grappled condition, but you cant move more than a square horizontally without either pulling it to the floor, or freeing yourself if you want to pull it down is.....hmmm its be combat maneuver id say. the STR just to pull it off of you SLOT 2: The second crab insect latches his filament onto zordlon, and chitters excitedly, pulling him off the ground. The other on begins to pull destra up, and backs up onto it's ledge, dragging destra against the wall. (the ledge is providing cover for the one thats in it's little cave thing
(rolled a 13 for 23 escape artist.) Zordlon tries to thrash his way out of the ligament holding him and manages to get slightly loose..... right before it titens up again.
Slot 2: (9am-5pm) Bebblebrox takes another shot at the crab and narrowly misses it with an arrow. ((Attack 14 *mutters about rolling less than an 8 on every die roll for attacks so far this mission*))
Slot 2: As Kabril points toward the crab creature attacking the elf, his hands glow once more as a final bolt of red gold fire springs from his fingers and takes a zig zag course through the chamber, finally exploding as a dragon shape all around the beast. //OOC Final round of Snapdragon Fireworks.  3 Fire damage, Reflex 16 or dazzled for 1 round.
Slot 3: (5pm - 1am) Bebblebrox draws a solid bead on a crab and hits it a glancing blow. ((Attack 16: Damage 1))
Slot 3: The creature lifting zordlon yanks again, but cant muster the strength to lift the elf further. The other creature, yanks Destra against the wall, dragging her another 20 ft up as it crawls further into it's den. (OOC crab 1 failed both the CMB to move, and the CMB to lift zordlon, the other one rolled a nat 20 to lift Destra, and made it's check to move)
Pulling an octogrip from her belt. Destra clamps to the side of the wall and pulls back on the webs, [20 CMB] but can't seem to pull the creature from its den.

You can certainly climb the filament, its a climb DC 10, but you cant take a 10 in combat. you will however need a reflex save of 15 to not get entangled in the stuff. The creature that has you is the one on the ceiling, not the one in the outcropping.
Slot 1: The creature holding zordlon pulls him through the air as it moves towards it's lair. Unable to pull him higher, he swings as he begins to climb up the strands. The other creature pulls Destra slightly higher, but doesnt manage to get her to the cave this turn.
(I rolled a nice natural 1 on the climb. I'm great at this.) ...... I..... there are no words to describe how badly Zordlon messed this up.. well I guess those worked pretty well.
Still need a reflex save
Slot 1: (1am-9am) Bebblebrox pulls another arrow and notches it carefully.  He takes in a deep breath to steady himself and looses the arrow as he exhales, just as he was trained.  Having taken the moment to center himself, the arrow flies true. ((OOC: Attack 22, Damage 5))

Slot 2: Since the mission is almost out of time, and i will be leaving early for this weekend, Clem has told me to wrap this up. Each of the creatures will spend 3 rounds pulling up their filaments, and returning to their ledges. you each have 3 rounds to post for this slot. After 3 rounds, anyone still grabbed by the filaments will be pulled up to the crab's lairs.
(3 rlls. 6 was the best. ciao. I'm going to be eaten by a crab now) Despite how much Zordlon kicked and thrashed he couldn't seem to get the crab monsters off of him.
Bebble will take 3 shots.  The first 2 towards the one with Zordlon, the 2nd shot hits, killing the creature.  The third shot towards the remaining one which misses. ((OOC: Attacks 12 - miss, 26 for 5 damage, 15 - miss due to cover))

(Stowing away octogrip Casting shield of Faith on self Activating Divine Vessel) Resolving to fight the creature in its den, Destra casts a spell. (Shouldn't my crab be at 14 health right now? I've done 8 damage to it total so far.) Destra loads and fires her crossbow twice, frantically shooting the beast. ([23], and [20] for [3] + [7] damage)
